The Tick (2001)
Needed some work
I wasn't familiar with the comics in the least... but I was an avid fan of the Saturday morning cartoon series, that I'm still waiting to be put out on DVD... I did enjoy this series, though, more than most other shows on nowadays... I think it could have been better, though, if it was an hour long show. Thirty minutes never seemed to be enough to spin the yarn they were going for. A lot of the episodes seemed rushed.
I also hate they couldn't have American Maid on this series, but I do think I preferred Bat Manuell to Die Fladermous. I did wish it had more heroes. One thing I liked about the cartoon, in the first episode, there were hordes of heroes trying to stop the idea men. The Human Bullet (Fire me Boy!), Sewer Urchin, Big Shot...
Well, they're truly two completely different series. Apples and Oranges. I will say the homophobic undertones are amusing. I recommend giving this series a chance... Fox sure didn't.
Boston Public (2000)
Dramatic Hilarity
I started watching this show last year, to pass time before WWE RAW... and quite frankly, I'm glad I did. I've rarely missed an episode, and I've openly cursed throughout the entire dorm over my dissastisfaction at Fox's constant preemption of this show for that less-than-mediocre reality show crap. Jeez, this show is excellent... it tackles real life issues, it tackles drama, and it still pulls of some hilarious moments. Don't think of it too realistically, but then again, I went to a high school in a cow pasture, who knows what schools are like in inner cities.
This is an excellent show, one of only five shows I actually strive to see, every week (the other 4 being WWE RAW and SmackDown!, Smallville,a nd the Simpson's).
Family Guy (1999)
Got my DVD the other day, and finished it this morning...
The rest of the episodes, I've got on the computer...
This is by far one of the funniest shows of all time. This show is full of satire, pop-culture references, and slapstick. Seth MacFarlane has excellently blended these elements to create a show that keeps you laughing with unexpected twists and turns.
Yeah, I'm a fan of the Simpson's, and this show is like the Simpson's in several areas. But there are several more areas where they differ. The Simpson's are usually much more realistic and a family. Family Guy exploits the families problems and is often very far-fetched. Which creates a different hilarity than the Simpson's.
I don't understand Fox. They push that insipid Malcolm in the Middle like none other, not even realizing it succeeds because they put it right after the Simpson's. They easily could have put Family Guy there, and had a two hour animation block that would have kept audiences rolling. But, no, life is not perfect.
To sum it up, it's a great show, it deserves more credit than it got, watch it on Cartoon Network, and maybe notice that recently, Simpson's have copied some ideas from it.
Eerie, Indiana (1991)
Another good show that didn't get it's due.
Yeah, I don't think I was even ten when this show came on, no, I was about 8, and I've never caught any reruns of it, but I still remember fondly that this one was good freakin' show! If you get the chance watch it.
Oh, and like someone else said, the remake show from about five years ago, it didn't compare with this show at all in the least. Quite sad that it even had the same name.
Another show, that's fairly good, that's on now, is Smallville. It reminds me of Eerie, Indiana, because Clark Kent(the young Superman) is always havin' to fight off weird people mutated by the meteors... It's good.
Days of Thunder (1990)
Wow, a lot of people don't like this movie..
Well, I do. And it's watched on a regular basis here in my dorm room. Keep in mind that I'm not a NASCAR fan in the least. That's probably why I don't like this movie. I read about how there's not that much "rubbing" and what not, but I'm sure that would make turning left a heck of a lot more interesting. And building the car in the barn, why that was the most intimate moment in almost any movie. This was a great movie, especially if you like cars. I mean, who could forget the rental cars?!
Of course, Nicole Kidman's lack of acting ability does bring the movie down, but she's not important. The driving is!
I don't recommend this movie because it's an accurate representation of stock car racing... I recommend it because it's an entertaining representation of stock car racing. And that's why we watch movies, to be entertained.
