Let's Be Cops (2014)
decadence and repetition
After a few minutes, like 2 minutes, you can see what this is all about. Two losers trying to make it in LA, but realizing that is not gonna happen. OK. let's watch this plot for the million time, no big deal... but when you see that Jake Johnson's success moment was appearing in a ad about hemorrhoids (or something like that), you can't avoid to get a little annoyed by the repetition, it's unbelievable that a joke so overdone like that one keeps getting screen time.
This is a lazy movie, all the jokes where done before, and multiple times, it tries to appeal to being ludicrous-funny, i think, but it's just ludicrous, everything that happens appears to be the product of the imagination of a 12 year old that devotes his life to watch and love generic sitcoms. I recommend to see this, non the less, because is a very very good example of the absolute decadence of comedy, having moronic stories and repeating the same jokes of the last 30 years.
God Bless America (2011)
i agree with the content, but the delivery is just unbearable
This movie speaks a lot of things that i will consider as facts about America's mainstream pop culture, about the social imagenary, and about social behavior. I agree with almost everything that frank said, but, i can't get over the poor, unimaginative and lazy way that all this facts were put on screen. The movie is nothing more than a series of endless speeches, with some violent scenes from time to time, and that's it. Is almost an spoken-word, and the girl is just there so frank didn't had to say everything, but it is such a lame character, this little girl that knows almost everything about pop-culture, plus is a sociopath, and weirdly, also has a high moral compass. OK. and the worst is the way she acts and speaks, like this grandiloquent person, that is so ridiculous to see, that i just couldn't end the movie without fast-forward it.. it was too much.
In the film area, is a horrible movie, and is so poorly executed, it's such a lazy film, that doesn't deserve more than a 3/10.
Frankie Go Boom (2012)
when things get to stupid
In this movie everything is stupid, just everything. Is like Lars Von trier's "the idiots", a sum of over the top characters, just trying to forcing out a laugh out of you, but in this movie the characters are not willingly acting like idiots, they are all real idiots, all of them. Is just unbearable to watch... well, unless you like that kind of thing.
Is just to stupid, it gets uncomfortable, and this is coming from a guy who absolutely loves airplane, top secret, hot shots, police academy, it's always sunny in Philadelphia, Monty python, and a lot of other movies and shows that from time to time make absolutely no sense and play around with the moronic dialogs, but well, there's to way to do that, a clever one, and "frankie go boom"'s one.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012)
Why make a movie about this annoying person?
The idea was great. 3 weeks to the end of the world, how would normal people will deal with this... cool, i want to watch that... but then you realize that the character chosen to be the lead is a sad loser, a no personality coward douche, well, the whole idea of the movie becomes a ghost, and you end up watching a boring story about a really annoying and pathetic guy living some kind of undeserved redemption with a hot girl that inexplicably joins this dull man on a ridiculous search... i would rather watch a movie about patton oswald's or rob corddry's characters.
the only reason i give this 3 stars is because of all the event surrounding the central story, there are some scenes that really look like having some thinking behind them...
that's all.
Dinner for Schmucks (2010)
just childish and painful to watch.
i really can't believe the amount of people who enjoy this movie. i saw it to relax before the new year eve's craziness, i wanted to see something funny and i thought: "paul rudd, steve carell, some guys from the daily show, it must be funny"... but well, i knew that i was wrong as soon as the first carell scene, that was just annoying... i have to recognize that i'm not a carell fan, even liking the office, i find that his humor in movies is too childish, disneysh, and in this one is so painful to watch, and is all because the obnoxious character that carell plays and the childish humor that creates.
besides, the combo of rational guy vs. dumb guy, classic humorous dynamic, in this movie doesn't work, because the idiot is too annoying and unlikable so when the normal guy don't kill him it just looks forced.
for the other hand, there's a couple of good characters. keiran, who is a completely unoriginal stereotype of an artist, but the guy was funny, so was the blind guy at the end... and that's all. nothing more works in this bad written piece of junk... and i can assure you all that i really wanted to like this, i wanted to spend a good afternoon with a funny movie, but is just impossible to laugh at this painful experience, i have to ask for forgiveness of my brother, whom i invited. it was terrible!... and very insulting, is like trying to make an adult laugh by shaking some car keys in front of his face... awful.
The Hangover (2009)
all the common places
i don't care that this movie is stupid, i like stupid comedies, that's not the problem with this film, the problem is that whoever wrote the jokes to this movie was having a really f*cked up writers block, and in desperation went to his nearest blockbuster and rent every stupid comedy made in the last 20 years and, in a very messy operation, start copy/pasting every joke and storyline, so now, we got this stupid movie, that some studio executive that really dislike watching movies, approve under the assumption that this has some originality, but really it should be being announced as a parody, like the unwatchable "____" movie saga from the infamous seltzer/friedberg couple.
the extremely high rating is something i can only explain myself telling me that most of the voters haven't ever seen a comedy before, or that we are living in a crescent more stupid society, that can even get that the "what happen last night?" storyline has a king in the stupid comedy realm, and that's "dude, where is my car?", or that the "bachelor party" storyline has it's begging and it's end with "bachelor party", or that the cool guy that hate his life but at the end he discovers that really loves his wife and kid it has been done since the 1920's!, or that the wimp who is scared of his girlfriend but at the end redeem himself by rebelling against his wimpiness is the most common character in film history... and the list goes on and on.
this movie is the copy of the copy of a few good movies. it can entertain, obviously it can, but it doesn't deserve an over 7 rating... not even and over 6. for me is a 4, is funny, but i'm tired to see copies, and overall like "the hangover", unoriginal as something can be.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
not so good
in this movie a lot of ridiculous things happens. i knew that before watching it, so i was ready to see a really dumb movie with a lot of action, because i didn't wanna get angry on the stupidity while watching Wolverine, trying to make it a more satisfying experience... but i wasn't ready to see that much over-the-top-ridiculous-blockbuster action. sometimes a character is absolutely hostile with other character, but suddenly the first character stop the hostility and become completely undefended so the other can get him... or sometimes a character is right here, but, not having teleport powers, suddenly gets a Mile away of his last position, with other clothing or implements and a "i'm so cool" scene begins. i really didn't care much about the script... is a really bad adaptation of the x-men story, but everyone knows that since before the movie was release, but also the characters are very, very poor, the scenes are very, very under-crafted and the twists on the movie are absolutely ridiculous...
this movie is disappointing at least... for a pg-13 audience at best.
Max Payne (2008)
the non gamer point of view
the movie is not bad at all if you haven't played the game, the mayor part of the criticism points to important characters to the game being left out or being of little importance in the movie, and, well, is nothing that can worry a person who has never played max Payne, so... whatever. the movie is entertaining, even though it makes no sense in a lot of moments, the characters was completely flat and undeveloped, and you can guess who are the bad guys since the first shot in that they appear. but, despite the fact that this is not an smart movie, all that lacks in the smartness department is compensated in the coolness area. nice effects, cool action scenes, great photography... cool movie... dumb, but cool. fun to watch, unlikely to be re-watched.
Son of Rambow (2007)
oh reminiscence!
this movie is absolutely great. it leaves you in your ten year old fortress made of imagination and endless energy. even even though the movie is set in the 80's, you don't have to be an 80's kid to enjoy son of rambow, in fact, i'm a kid from the 90's and i love it from beginning to end. it has nothing to do with the time period, the movie refers to the nostalgic feeling that childhood memories provokes, if you don't have good childhood memories, if you didn't use your imagination and play a lot when you were a kid, probably this movie isn't for you, the kind of reminiscence this movie brings is for everyone who once were a kid and enjoy this time of his life. a great feel good movie, hilarious... i haven't seen one of this in a long long time, the last feel good movie i saw was "be kind rewind" and i don't wanna talk about that dreadful experience. but son of rambow is something else, it makes you feel good, it makes you laugh, is nostalgic... in fact, does everything that "be kind rewind" doesn't.
Alpha Dog (2006)
powerful film about idiots.
the movie is too good in portray a group of lame-ass "biatch" talkers, that it gets annoying sometimes, but well, it's just cuz this guys are annoying. you gotta sit knowing that you're gonna hate every "thug" in this movie, and you're gonna get exasperated a lot. this is a movie about idiots, morons, "retarded by choice" ass-holes, being just what they are, and a very likable and exasperating kidnapped boy who is the center of the hurricane that the troop of gangsta wannabes creates for themselves. there's some people with common sense in the movie too, but they practically didn't matter in the story... almost every external character is an idiot too...
damn idiots...
Ghost Town (2008)
unfunny
is not a funny movie. is awkward, the plot advances to places where the characters don't belong. it's terrible cheesy and, like in a lot of movies, you know the end since the start, and almost everything it happens is unsurprising.
doctor pincus (gervais) is an unbearable and bitter human being that doesn't generates a bit of sympathy, has absolutely no social skills, but suddenly became a humorist when he fell for Gwen (leoni), frank's widow (frank is kinnear)... in the way to the obvious nothing much happens, pincus, as the completely unsympathetic jerk that he is, makes an awkward comedian for the audience, and tea leoni laughing of his jokes on screen was really annoying, it was like looking a stand up comedy act with a 1 person audience... at least for me. at his favor this "comedy" has the great chemistry between gervais and kinnear and a nice message of "don't be a f*cking ass-hole!"
Mutant Chronicles (2008)
too many Hollywood vices, but overall a god movie.
mutant chronicles is a really comic-like film, in the spirit of sin city and sky captain. there are a lot of shots trying to emulate comic's frames, and a lot of exaggerated CGI that also adds a comic feel to the movie. the use of colors, all opaque, absolutely no shine, except for the cgi blood, and the world that the movie shows, some futuristic WW1 scenery, or something like a cross between the Orwellian "1984" and "all quiet on the western front"...
(this may be consider as spoilers) but well, it could sound too good for what really is, and that is a typical team action movie with all the "American film" vices: all getting kill in order, black first, non American later, with massive slaughters of the villains, that of course reproduce like rabbits, a lot "mario bros"-like action, a little LOTR-like action and a misuse of plot that could make the movie better... at least this movie doesn't have a love interest showing her love in the middle of the bloodiest battle, but still have a mentor-like character, and obnoxious Christian message, and of course: a self righteous all American hero and a lot of silliness...
overall isn't a bad movie, you can watch it without being bored, but of course, is nothing to remember.
Facing the Giants (2006)
only for i-cry-in-church christians
this movie es completely awful as a movie. the dialogues are all bible based, same as the music, is a constant preach, cheesy as hell, unwatchable if you don't believe the Christian story, and if you are a Christian that doesn't live by the bible in every way (let's say,if you believe that dinosaurs existed). the movie is pretty bad, the acting is horrible, the dialogues are just old and new testament verses and that's makes disgusting the way to "spread the message" this movie has... in fact, this movie is, before anything else, a preach, second, a bad movie.
the only way that you can enjoy this is if you already are a belligerent Christian or if you are in desperate need for salvation.
don't be fooled by the rating, this movie is, with luck, a 4... most probably a 3, but i will give it a 1, because i really feel disgusted by it...
and sorry for my English, is not my native tongue.
Blast (2004)
blast, the awkwardness
i just have seen this fiasco on cable, and i need to trash it, is by far one of the worst movies i have ever seen.
Eddie griffin an action hero?. my god!. the "clever" lines before and after kick some terrorist ass without even being touch were a joke, but the kind of funny stuff that doesn't supposed to be laughable. and what about griffin "im a bad-ass" faces when he does a karate posses or is spotting the bad guys?... damn, i always get the feeling that some undercover brother dumb joke was soon to occur. this is one of the most awkward movies i have ever seen, is awful. i have to change the channel in a lot of scenes... and Vivica A. Fox... my god... Vinnie Jones!!... damn... terrible career move. what and horrible movie.
