Space Cadet (2024)
Who thought of this ?
This movie is very below average. The premise is that the main character Rex is very smart but did not go to college so now works at a bar. She sees a successful person from her past and that gives her motivation to finally follow her dreams and become an astronaut. She wrote an application then her friend changed it to make it seem like she qualified so she would get in once she does the movie starts. The main point of this is the comedy and the jokes were poor. I laughed one time which was at the treadmill scene. I don't know if the acting is terrible or if the directing is to blame but either way I don't like it to add on that the lines are stupid. Everything that happens from beginning until the end is totally illogical and generally stupid. Lastly the pacing sucks. The only reason I gave this a 5 star rating is because it was entertaining enough.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024)
Terrible
The Strangers Chapter 1 was a Total waste of time and money. Incredibly boring and sloppy with acting that was okay at best and awful at most times. The poor acting gets capitalized by the fact that the directing would be best described as odd. I could not get into this at all and I honestly really wanted the characters to die so that the movie would end. There was no interesting story line to follow. I could not remember their names for half the movie and I forgot the whole reason they were in the town. This was not even slightly scary either. There were few jump scares and if i remember correctly maybe one out of the few of them was actually the strangers. I was so angry at the end when it said to be continued...
Logan (2017)
Best Marvel Movie
My Favorite marvel character is Spider-Man but in second and always been on the border of first is Wolverine. I have read and watched everything with Wolverine in it since I was young. The classic X-Men animated show all the original X-Men films everything. There was no better way to close the films than with this. This pays respect to the long line of Marvel comics writers and shows truly what some comic book movies can be. For me this stands at the top with the Dark Knight and Rami Spider-Man films. We get all of these cameo filled movies that have silly story lines and big CGI battles but Logan gave what I wanted all along. A gritty moving story about Logan. It shows up the aftermath of the world hating hunting down and murdering the mutants and how Logan gave up. He settled down and hid from the world, but now has to fight for himself and the future of the mutants by protecting a young girl. The film plays out perfectly and has a truly heartfelt and emotional ending. 10/10 film.
Sinister (2012)
Garbage
If I wanted to watch someone react to videos I would watch a YouTube reaction channel. Not this idiotic cardigan wearing failure of a man. There might have been 1000 weird faces that Ethan Hawke did in reaction to the stuff in this movie. Also I just can't stand that he really thought it was a good idea to move his family to this house with Mr. Boogie, which is a terrible name. I think that his best reaction came in the lawnmower scene which for some reason had no sound other than the terrible score that goes throughout this dumb movie. I don't understand how anyone was scared while watching this. Not only were the scares garbage I could barley see what was on the screen. It was so dark the only things I could form was a man walking around aimlessly and a bunch of small kids. The tapes were an interesting touch at first, but then there were more and more and sometimes rewatching the same ones. The most sinister part of this is that they somehow made some people think this was good I dont know how.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Lived up to the hype
This movie was fantastic. I was able to see it at an early press screening in 70mm imax and loved it. Almost every moment in the 3 hour movie good and interesting. Acting was fantastic and story was very engaging just like in most Nolan films. It hit on everything other than emotion between characters but while watching your so into the story and what's going on around you don't even give the absence much notice.
Upon rewatch the film drags at times and it is long so it is kind of exhausting but it's enjoyable. I think RDJ has a standout performance and that gets lifted by another great performance from Cillian Murphy. My biggest problem overall is the main poster. That thing sucks. Overall this lived up to the hype and holds a 9.7 in my book.
Sennen joyû (2001)
Total Originality and a beautiful story something that we get once in a millennium
This is very unique and a total piece of art. The story of a famous actor who's entire career is based from her searching for a secretive man she fell in love with. The film is filled with symbols and characters who represent many different things. The way the story is told is so cool. She in her old age is getting interviewed by a man who used to work for the company she acted for. She tells him about her story and it is shown in a way where he is filming her acting within her movies but instead of the movie's story being told it's her telling her story of her search for her lost love. It's hard to explain but you just need to watch it. For something that sounds so complex it is really easy to follow and the pace is perfect. Nothing beats the fact that this is a story being told within a story within a story. Statoshi Kon does a near perfect job again.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Kubrick's Best ?
Eyes wide shut stands the test of time becoming very culturally relevant to this day. All of the news recently starting with Jeffery Epstein all the was to now with news about the dark side of Hollywood and the rich and powerful. The rumored of masked parties with nefarious acts including people from politicians to actors to billionaires sound more and more believable. This film from 1999 seems to reveal what the recent conspiracies and rumors say it would look like possibly alluding to a truth about them. This film brings a lot of horror within itself and possibly in our real world bringing more and more questions.
I think Eyes wide shut is Kubrick's best work and has so much going on. This is overall one of the creepiest/coolest film I have every seen. This film is about Bill Hartford played by Tom Cruise who goes to a party and sees something he should not have.
His wife having thoughts about another man leads Bill to go on a long walk late at night in New York City. While on his walk he runs into an old friend who leads and sneaks him into a private masked party of rich people. This turns out to be a cult sex party and his curiosity lead him into trouble and now he has to get out in order to save his life. The scenes are long and drawn out raises the tension of every moment. The costume's make for a dark creepy aura that surrounds each of the people. For that and many more reasons this is necessary film that every horror fan should watch.
Papurika (2006)
The Movie of my Dreams
Whenever we think of films about dreams and fighting we think of Nightmare on Elm street and inception. I think that this is right up there with both of those. This exact way to have fun with a film. Paprika was so interesting and fun from the start. Opening up with a sequence in another person dream practically living a movie. Fun and exhilarating is the best way to describe the opening scene and that is exactly how the rest of the film goes. The best way to describe it is, Paprika is about a girl who is one person in reality and is another in the dream world. Two totally different personalities but in both worlds she is investigating a mind terrorist who is taking over people's dreams. Paprika is a film packed with fun great settings and design with beautiful animation. There is so much enjoyment and fun with this film.
The First Omen (2024)
Horror Of The Year
The First Omen is the horror movie of the year. Unlike so many new additions to classic horror films ( Exorcist Believer, Texas Chainsaw , the last 2 Halloweens ) the first Omen is an actual well thought out and interesting film. The point of this was not a cash grab and its very evident. It dragged a little at the beginning but it picks up and strives throughout. Its shot in a way that builds the film up so well. It's very slowed paced for a while but its purpose is to tie together Margret and Carlita for obvious reasons. As the film continues on we get a somewhat odd but creative story and reason behind how Damien came to be. I am sure some people will be able to predict the twist but I felt like it was so well done and felt original. When it comes to the horror, it's not scary. There is a creepy aura at certain points but the horror itself is fully based off of the creepiness of the visions that are shown. I don't believe that it's an issue that there was not a lot of horror coming from the fact that the original Omen had even less horror. With that being said don't go in expecting a bunch of jump-scares or anything. Another major problem people seem to have is that its similar to every other convent set film. Yes it is set there, yes its kind of similar to the recent immaculate, in terms of looks, and yes it does it better then probably all of the convent/nun films. Lastly, I have seen many people say this does not do the original Omen justice. I fully believe that it does. Some things in the First Omen were not mentioned in the original trilogy. Even though they were not mentioned they helped bring sense to this film. I would have a problem if it directly overwritten what was in the original but it did not. Overall I think that this was a great film and I suggest this to everyone.
Shin seiki Evangelion Gekijô-ban: Air/Magokoro wo, kimi ni (1997)
The Truest Ending
The is the true ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion episodes 1-24. The last two episodes seem odd as the ending and this film is what completed the show.
The internal struggles of each of the characters came out in a sporadic burst that was done in a way so that it did not feel random. Throughout the show they hinted and gave looks into the problems of our characters but it came full circle in the film. It laid out the full explanation and tellings of the characters and everything going on behind the scene in the show.
Along with that This looks in every direction of life. EOE shows us how to look at our meanings and to look into ourselves and everything from good to bad. It does this in a way so unique special and beautiful. I would have never expected this looking back on episode 1 but I'm glad it all lead up to this. The film is so open to interpretation and bring so many views and emotions into it. There had never been a more deserving.
