Thought it was crap
22 June 2012
I was looking forward to seeing this movie, and finally had a chance to watch it today. Well, that's two hours I'll never get back. The kid in the movie is boring and annoying, even his voice is annoying. All the characters are unlikeable! This is Tom Hank's worst film and worst role. Sandra Bullock's character is completely ridiculous and mousy. Even the acting and interaction between all the characters was dreadful and stilted. And the plot: There isn't anything favorable I can say about the plot. The kid needs to find where a key goes. And? And? Does he? Who cares! By the end of the movie, who even cares? Not me, I hated this film.

Great Fun!

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this film! There are two things you need to know before going to see this: One- It isn't for everyone. Two- It's a musical. The fact that it's a musical will turn some people off, but I happen to like musicals. HOWEVER, even if you don't typically like musicals, if you love 80's music, you may still enjoy this one very much. All the good solid hits are in this film and the campy, silly plot just hits home with us "80's babies". Sherrie is played by Julianne Hough and I am convinced nobody would have fit the bill better! Tom Cruise was perfect in his role, and I couldn't call myself a fan except maybe now... This film took me back to the 80's era movies where the guy gets his girl with silliness in the mix. Yes, the plot was fairly predictable, but that's what made it fun for me. I didn't have to over-think this one, it was just fun! I like a smart film, but in its own way, this film is very smart because it takes all the nostalgic 80's era movie moments and subtly duplicates the "feel" of that time. And one song after enough, it reeled me in and kept me smiling throughout. With the cast, you can't go wrong, in my opinion, and everybody hit their mark. I would say go see it if you would like a trip down memory lane.

Good movie
2 August 2009
I am a mom with four children. My one-year-old didn't go with us, but my five-year-old, ten-year-old, and twelve-year-old went with me to see this movie. I must say it was refreshing to see a children's movie that was actually suitable for children to watch. We thought certain scenes were very cute and funny, there was no foul language, and my children enjoyed this film. It is sad that so many other movies get attention when this one is entertaining and clean. I would recommend it and think it is better than a lot of other summer films we have seen. On a scale of one to ten, I would probably give it a seven. That is an honest evaluation based on action, entertainment, humor, and story line. Overall, not a bad movie at all.

What is the deal with this?
28 August 2008
I have thought of this movie for 30 years, asking my parents if they remembered, but they didn't. I wondered for awhile if I dreamed the whole thing up, or if the movie was just a TV show, or an actual movie. I do know that it left such an impression that I have never forgotten it! My memories are sort of vague, but I remember that it involved some giant sea turtle or turtles and some sort of music that I loved. I thought I would never know the answers, but here I have found it after searching around just a little on this sight. I see that many people remember this movie and I am not alone! I am wondering how I would get a copy? I can't say really if I love it, hate it, I just REMEMBER it as a six-year-old and it has never left my mind. I find it very strange that it would stick with me as it has, and feel I MUST see it again!
