Village of the Damned (1995)
Children rule adults
In 1960, the film Village of the Damned was released, which had a great impact on the audience. In 1995, John Carpenter decided to make a remake, but this attempt of the luminary of the horror genre turned out to be a failure, as the film was presented at the Golden Raspberry Awards in 1996 as the worst remake. Carpenter's outstanding films. Halloween, the thing and so on. Carpenter always created the philemba himself, that is, he himself composed the synopsis and synopsis. However, he never worked on a remake until 1995, which is why this project failed. What is the main point of this movie? Parents misbehave with children and sometimes they try to take revenge on them. In my opinion, the movie released in 1960 became a source of inspiration for Pink Floyd. Specifically, the song another brick in the wall is very similar to the content of the movie. There, too, schoolchildren try to escape from the management of their elders.

Lights Out (2024)
A master class on how not to make a film
At first, when I looked at the cast of this film, I thought that I would see a good quality spectacle, however, this "thriller" left me with the opposite feeling. In the epicenter of the events is an ex-soldier Duffy, who participates in an underground fighting league for the sake of big money. It is an association similar to a fight club, but corrupt police officers play a major role in the organization and control of these fights. In fact, it is an illegal business office. Duffy is an anti-establishment man who knows the misery of war. Due to financial difficulties, Duffy decides to take part in these illegal fights, but in the end, the main character becomes persona non grata of the corrupt policemen. In my opinion, the content of the film is not refined. The dialogues are very superficial, lacking depth. The script is very flawed. The characters are not open. The character of the one and only Jamie King made an interesting impression on me. For Jamie, this was the first negative character he portrayed in his career. As for the director, Christian Sesma, he has a lot of works in this style, but all of them were evaluated very negatively.
Animal Farm (1954)
Soviet thinking of animals
George Orwell was one of the most outstanding writers of the second half of the 20th century. His works were distinguished by political satire. Two of his books (1984 and Animal Farm) best describe the current state of world politics. If today I am writing a review about Animal Farm, then it would be right to talk about this book. Animal Farm details the vicious side of a totalitarian form of government. Today's Kremlin propagandists (such as Maria Zakharova) believe that Orwell's work was aimed at criticizing the Western model, but in fact we all know very well the rhetoric of Orwell's philosophy. Animal Farm is an artistic allegory of the Soviet Union. The characters of the book are prototypes of the main works of the communist system. For example, Napoleon is an Orwellian Stalin, and Snowball is Trotsky. The 20th century was characterized by dictatorial regimes (fascism, Nazism, communism) during which people's rights were violated, in fact, fascist imperialism cost the lives of up to 100 million innocent citizens. During Soviet Bolshevism, there were bloody repressions against critical thinking poets, politicians and public figures. That is why artists created such masterpieces with a pen or a camera, the main purpose of which was to expose totalitarian systems. The farm, in both the novel and the book, is a dictatorial state ruled by a tyrant, i.e. Farmer Jones. Animals are the slaves of this cruel man. One day the animals will unite to gain the longed for freedom. They will oust the despotic master and free the farm from human clutches. The animals form a special code of laws whose main motto is "all animals are equal", but over time, this rule changes as a cluster of pigs tries to seize power. Napoleon, who heads Animal Farm, is no different from Mr. Jones. He, together with other pigs, establishes complete control over the rest of the animals, and the main enemy of the animals himself, resembles a human. This book became a source of inspiration for such a legendary rock group as Pink Floyd. In the 70s, this group released their first studio album Animals, all three songs of which (pigs, dogs and sheep) are based on George Orwell's fables. In my opinion, George Orwell's work has been really appreciated, because even today in the 21st century, politicians, while evaluating the political environment or discrediting their opponent, often echo Orwell's artistic messages.
Pink Floyd: The Wall (1982)
The greatest music makers
In general, the musical is a genre of a slightly different style in cinema. It doesn't look like fantasy, horror, or comedy. Something mysterious is hidden in it, which carries a very fragrant message. In the 80s, when rock and roll dominated the music industry, it is logical to say that the British rock band Pink Floyd had an important place in pop culture during that time. Anyone reading this article may be a more experienced listener than me, may be more competent in this field, but no one can convince me that there is a band or singer who has written better music than Pink Floyd. My favorite band is the killers, but I admit that Pink Floyd is in a different category. The group, which was formed in 1965, went through many obstacles during its existence. For example, in the 60s, the founder of the group, Syd Barrett, was diagnosed with a mental disorder and left the band soon after. In such a difficult situation, Roger Waters took the responsibility of guiding the concept of the band. Until 1985, Waters was the group's leader and main driving force. But in 1985, the guitarist left the band and said that the era of Pink Floyd was over. Today, when we talk about this legendary musical kingdom, we always mention the political context, because David Gilmour and Roger Waters both carry radically different political tastes. Gilmore supports Ukraine, while Waters calls the war with Russia pointless. In 1982, no less famous English director Alan Parker shot the film Pink Floyd - The Wall. This film is a film adaptation of Pink Floyd's most popular album Wall. One film critic said that this film is Pink Floyd's longest music video. Bob Geldof, who plays the main role in Pink, is not a member of this band, but he very convincingly played the role of a young person alienated from society.
In my opinion, the title of the film and the album accurately reflects the philosophy of the band. A Pink Floyd album is one big wall, in the construction of which each song or brick plays a big role.
Thanksgiving (2023)
Eli Roth's best work
Today, "slasher" films seem to have been forgotten by the film industry. In the 80s, such films were in vogue. The main anti-hero in horror films at that time was often a maniac, a serial killer who was ostracized by society, or uncomfortable because of family conflict, it is such a difficult and traumatic childhood that drives a person to become a criminal. In the 70s, John Carpenter established a kind of "bloody holidays" trend. Halloween was the first horror film to be built around a popular American tradition. I'm guessing Eli Roth's Gratitude could be on the way for the Halloween franchise, as the original version was already well received by film critics and audiences alike. The director of the film has already confirmed the continuation of the series. Part 2 will be released in 2025. Eli Roth kept his own style here as well. A lot of blood, brutal scenes, cannibalism, a little humor. This is a well-known signature of the director. With which he established himself in the horror cinema. 2023 is coming to an end, there have been a lot of horror movies this year, some good, some flops, in my opinion, Thanksgiving is the best horror movie of the year. The creator of Hostel and Green Hell has given us a truly quality product. Eli Roth is an experienced luminary of horror cinematography, although he had never made a slasherbay before. Therefore, the creation of such a spectacular film is even more appreciated. Americans love to celebrate important dates, celebrate, get together, hug, but they don't realize that in the dark streets, an evil force may be lurking, driven only by terrible intentions. They are such characters. Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, and now John Carver has been added to the list of antagonists. We will see the continuation of John Carver's saga. Perhaps this new born film franchise will revive the degraded horror cinema.
Saw X (2023)
John Kramer's epic comeback
The Saw franchise is one of the longest running sagas in film history. We can think of few films whose history spans such a long period of time. But there are still exceptions (Fast and Furious, Phantasm, Halloween) in 2004, when the first movie was released, after that the rest of the parts did not seem to match the audience's expectations. However, the 10th film did not leave the audience disappointed. The film has grossed 80 million and it has only been in theaters for a month. So that financial success will increase over time. In my opinion, John Kramer is the only antagonist you can root for. This man's moral code involves punishing sinful people. Kramer kidnaps criminals, criminals, crooks and the like and engages them in sadistic games.
Producers assigned Kevin Grotert to direct the 10th episode. The experienced filmmaker, who took part in the shooting of many Saw series, did not refuse the new offer. Why is this episode one of the highlights of this film saga? Because the franchise concept has not changed. Kramer is still at it. I'm not a fan of this serial killer, but the 10th movie seems to encourage the audience to not be indifferent to the saw. I would pick John's transformation. Which I would divide into three segments. 1) The beginning of the movie (a desperate Kramer performs surgery and looks like an innocent person) 2) The middle of the movie (an enraged John starts torturing the employees of a fraudulent oncology clinic) 3) The end (This is where I first saw a pity-obsessed killer who is confused) The climax of the movie was really amazing, In an unexpected turn of events, but the last scene felt a certain injustice, because the main organizer of this fraudulent scheme, Dr. Cecilia Pederson, survived, and because of this fact, I think they will make an 11th film.
Fright Night Part 2 (1988)
Awaiting vampiric revenge.
After the death of Jerry Dandridge, Charlie Brewster's life seems to have stabilized. For some time, this boy was undergoing a rehabilitation course in a psychiatric clinic. Charlie believed that vampires did not exist and was convinced by a psychiatrist that Jerry Dandridge was just a serial killer. After being discharged from the clinic, Charlie tries to start a new phase of life, but the old fears do not let him go. He suspects that the vampires may return. This skeptical prediction is justified. Charlie Brewster, again has to fight against the bloodsuckers. This time the main antagonist is Jerry's sister Regina. My favorite scene is when Regina enters Charlie's mind and sends the young hero into a panic. Here we can find one important coincidence with the original film. In the first part, Charlie's mother invites Jerry to her house, and in the sequel, Charlie is brought into her room by a strange woman. From this we must conclude that we should not open the door of a stranger. (If you don't agree, watch Haneke's funny games and you will have doubts) Regina's main task is to turn Charlie into a vampire so that he can suffer forever. Throughout the film, the cold-blooded monster controls Charlie (actually turning him into a puppy) and with the help of his friends Peter Vincent and Alex, Charlie escapes the enemy's clutches and unleashes another member of the Dandridge family on the loose.
I really like vampire movies. In my opinion, Fright Night is a very underrated movie saga. Remakes were released in 2011 and 2013, but compared to the original works, they are quite tame. Tom Holland refused to make the 2nd film, because he was working on Child's Play at the time, and Chris Sarandon (who played Jerry Dandridge) did not participate in the second part, because he was approved for the main role of Child's Play.
House (1985)
War is trouble
Many films have been made around the theme of war (Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket), all of these works have one main message. War destroys humanity. Steve Miner's film House (1985) is no exception. In my opinion, the monsters depicted in the film are a metaphor for the brutality of war. At the epicenter of the events is the writer Roger Cobb, who is writing an autobiographical novel about the Vietnam War and shares his military experience with the readers. Roger is having a hard time. He lost his little son, his wife left him and his aunt killed herself. Kobe returns to the very house where his aunt killed herself to write the paper. As it turns out, this place is haunted by ghosts and monsters. In the end, the main character defeats these creatures and gets his son back. I think Roger's wife should have been in more scenes. The humor of the film is average. This work is directly related to the Friday the 13th franchise. Director Steve Miner directed the second and third parts of Friday the 13th. Producer Sean Cunningham directs Jason Voorhees' original feature. House made a name for itself in the film world thanks to 1985. After that, he made films like (warlock, halloween 20 years later, lake palcid) I think this work deservedly remained outside the mainstream galvanizing, because the jokes in the film are not funny. However, this documentary is one of the archetypes of horror-comedy eclecticism. But the original script belonged entirely to the horror genre, with no comedic elements.
Vacancy (2007)
Kate Beckinsale 21st century horror queen.
The most popular film from Kate Beckinsale's film portfolio is the Underworld franchise. After the role of Selene, Beckinsale became a famous actress. In my opinion, she is the horror queen of the 21st century. Because he acted in many movies of this genre. But I think this is the one film where an English lady plays her best role. This movie was released in 2007 and the name of the movie is Vacancy. This brutal film shows several elements. 1) Abandoned motels are scary. 2) The motel owner may be a maniac. Luke Wilson played the lead role in this movie, but I think Kate's performance was better. (Beckinsale and Wilson had conflict on the set because Wilson was drunk at times) I really like the last scene where Kate shows her class and she kills three assassins. Not many people will stay in abandoned motels after seeing this movie. Because they understand that these places are not safe.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
When Overlook calls you.
Stephen King's screenplays don't exactly have good luck. According to the cinema rental, the adaptations of this writer failed and suffered a significant crash. Of course, there are exceptions, and one such film is Doctor Sleep. Which is a continuation of the lights. Before I go to the discussion of the best work of Mike Flanagan, I would like to remind you that Stephen King does not like the cult film The Shining and criticizes Stanley Kubrick sharply, because the director changed the story line of the book and registered it as his credit. Doctor Sleep is a worthy successor to Lights. And yet how does Flanagan manage to maintain Kubrick's suspense and weave together King's mystique? I think that the last part of the film gives an answer to this question. The confrontation between Danny and the hooded Rose is the clearest example of the director introducing certain directives into his work and slightly changing the old scenes. During the confrontation between Danny Torrens and Rose in the Hat, it was almost the same scenario as in the flash. I really liked the last dialogue between Abra and Danny, where Danny said that Rose is not the last representative of the true knot, so we have to wait for the continuation of this movie.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994)
Wes Craven's most creative nightmare
Wes Craven was, of course, one of the luminaries of horror cinema. From his portfolio, such works as the Scream franchise are definitely worth highlighting. Or the horror Teleb Street movie series. The main key to the successful career of this director is the eclecticism of horror and comedy elements. In his horror films, we often come across funny and entertaining scenes. It is because of this paradoxical style that the audience fell in love with this person. But which movie is the best? This question is a bit rhetorical. Because almost all of Craveney's works have their own charm. But I would choose Wes Craven's The New Nightmare. This movie is the 7th and final installment in the horror franchise of Calf Street. After 1994, this legendary film saga came to an end. (A remake of the first film was released in 2010, but it was a box office failure) Why does this film stand out and how is it different from other horror films? Better with creativity and non-standard concept. The main characters are actual actors from previous films in the franchise. The role of Robert Englund is played by Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp is played by Heather herself. The synopsis of the movie is very strange. Freddy Krueger descends into the real world to destroy Heather Langenkamp and her family. Both in child's play and in this film, I played the role of mother. Heather Langenkamp loves her son Dylan like Schleg. In this case, the mother is the child's protective shield. She represents a woman who has several good qualities. 1) He is ready to sacrifice himself for his loved ones. 2) She thinks quickly, that is, she fits the role of Nancy convincingly even in real life. 80's horror movie stars were not appreciated in the movie business. That's why Heather Langenkamp couldn't become a famous actress and ended up behind the mainstream radar. Like Child's play, the favorite scene in this movie is the fight between the two main characters (positive and negative). Langenkamp and Freddy. (When Heather is interviewed by the King of Dreams in her room) The ending of the film is very humane, because after Freddie's death, the mother reads the script written by Wes Craven with her boyfriend, the very script that copied the concept of cinema into the real world. In short, the 7th film is the best series in the entire franchise. I think that after 1994, citizens living on Teleb Street are sleeping peacefully.
Thinner (1996)
Gypsy prescribed diet
Gypsy prescribed diet
Gypsies do not seem to be a threat to society, they lead a wandering life. They don't have one particular place of residence. They make certain demands in order to have basic bread money. But gypsies can curse a person if he "deserved" it. Tom Holland's 1996 film is built around this theme. In the epicenter of the events is the famous lawyer Billy Halleck, who is suffering from obesity. Billy keeps a poor diet, which naturally worries his wife. "One fine day" Billy will hit a gypsy, Suzanne, with his car and kill her. Of course, the lawyer did not do this on purpose. While behind the wheel, he is distracted by his wife (Heidi Halleck). The court did not recognize Bill as an accused and considered the girl's death an accident. As if a successful lawyer could easily hide from justice, but don't be sorry. Tadzu Lemke, the father of the dead gypsy girl, gave a curse of thinness to the killer. This is a story about a person who did not take responsibility for himself and was punished accordingly. Over time, Bill loses weight, but eats more food than he should. As if what could be better than this, although this fact seems alarming to Hyde, because such an illogical development of events can make the health problem urgent. After some time, Billy realizes that he and everyone else who took part in Billy's trial has been cursed by a group of gypsies. Hyde does not believe this story and believes that Billy should be treated. In the second half of the film, the director shows the tense phase of the husband-wife relationship. Bill is jealous. He thinks Hyde is quietly spending time with Dr. Mike. Such a development of events can have such an explanation. Hyde realizes that Bill is losing his mind and tries to stay away from such a person. However, this story line is not fully resolved. Because there is not even one scene in the film that gives us a satisfactory and justified answer to the question of whether Hyde is really cheating on her husband or not. In the end, Billy finds a way out through revenge. I would single out two controversial scenes that are identical to each other in some component. 1) Suzanne's death (where Heidi didn't warn Billy that a gypsy was crossing the road) 2) going to Glassman's clinic (Heidi was sitting at the wheel, she was distracted while talking to her husband on the road, which almost caused an accident. Amoto also made our unfortunate hero feel a sense of injustice.
I think all the acting characters in this movie are antagonists.
