Nevada Smith (1966)
Steve McQueen fan but not this time
Normally I like Steve McQueen movies. But not this one. The acting was terrible, unrealistic and unbelievable. I lost interest after he meets the arms dealer. Without spoiling anything since I will never finish watching this garbage, here's a few examples how stupid this film was. When his mother is supposedly being skinned by the 3 men at the start she just stood there without so much as a peep or a twitch while having her back carved up. When he starts his revenge run, the first 3 men he encounters don't kill him after he attacks them when mistaking them for the killers of his family. Instead they fed him and jokingly dismiss it as "kids will be kids" thing. And then again he isn't killed after drawing on the arms dealer. Seems like the only point to this movie was a few free meals for Steve McQueen to stuff his face with. I gave this a 3, 1 for the minimum score allowed and since it's slightly better made than the garbage called westerns of late, 1 for the scenery and 1 for music.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
What a snore fest!
I don't know what kind of mind state some of these raving reviewers were at but this was the most boring Godzilla I've seen yet. There was some great special effects and scenery but everything else just sucked. The acting was horrible, the characters were annoying, the pace was glacial and the dialogue was just idiotic. This movie is worth a single viewing and then straight to the trash bin. I ended up fast forwarding the majority of the movie once I realized it was mostly pointless filler. This movie wasted far too much time on character development instead of focusing more on Godzilla. It's a pity, this movie had great potential that went to waste.
The Beekeeper (2024)
The most satisfying revenge movie so far!
This definitely is not an artsy fartsy movie and straight to the point, sweet revenge. I've seen hundreds of great revenge movies and I can't say any of them were as satisfying as this movie was. Great mix of comedy with action. Nothing memorable like Arnie's "I'll be back!" lines but good enough for a well earned smile.
I hope they do a sequel with the same premise. Except this time go after the heads of the criminals that kidnap or lure people with fake jobs and get forced to do computer and text scams.
Although this movie isn't perfect and I almost never give such a high rating I felt this movie deserved a rating boost. And a faint hope for a sequel and even fainter hope of fewer scam texts on my cell phone.
The Equalizer 3 (2023)
Surprisingly better than I expected
I've seen all 3 of the Equalizer movies and although the 3rd instalment didn't have as much action as the first two it was still very good. I watched the original 1980's TV series of Equalizer and thought it was a bit too tame. But the 3 newer Equalizer movies starring Denzel Washington fixed that itch with some great kill scenes. I really hope they don't end this franchise. There's so many possibilities to keep the Equalizer alive with a new actor and endless ideas helping people in dire need. Don't get me wrong, Denzel Washington did a great job with the character and I wouldn't complain if he returned for another instalment in the Equalizer. But why not pass the torch to a younger generation and continue on with the premise instead of ending it.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Finally a Trek for adults
Season one and two were a bit boring and a slow burn but still very watchable. I'm loving season 3 a lot more now that there's action and some momentum. I've watched every Trek movie, TV series and even the cartoons. This Picard series for me is finally something geared towards adults and much more realistic of what I'd expect from space travel in the future. Not some hokey naive 60's outlook like the many different TV series had. It's ironic people are complaining about the swearing and are probably the same ones that enjoyed Trailer Park Boys or DeadPool. The tiny bits of swearing in Picard are laughable and well done for emphasis compared to any modern movies geared towards teens and adults where every second word is someone swearing. Lol.
