I Am Groot (2022)
Amazing animation but boring
''I am groot'' is about 20 minutes of baby groot shorts. I think this show wasn't made for me, so a younger audience probably would enjoy this more but i feel like although the episodes are very short they still somehow drag, mostly because ''I am groot'' there aren't that many jokes and they aren't that funny. The best thing about this show is the animation it's amazing (except the bird from the fourth episode), it is a little bit sad that it was used for such an underwelming product. The best episodes are the last two "Groot Takes a Bath" and "Magnum Opus". All in all, I recommend it for children or people who want to see good animation.
Ice Age: Scrat Tales (2022)
It is what it is
Ice Age: Scrat Tales is 20 minutes worth of Scrat bits divided into six parts where he is joined by Baby Scrat. I think Scrat parts worked very well in the movies as comic relief and the slapstick humour is as funny as always, surprisingly the creators were even able to put in something resembling a story - Scrats love hate relationship with Baby Scrat, furthermore animation is very well done. My favourite episodes were the first one "Nuts About You" and the second one "LoFi Scrat Beats to Sleep/Chill to". At the end of the day, this show wasn't made for me but I think it is pretty good for what it is. RIP Blue Sky Studios.
Baymax! (2022)
Boring and underwhelming
Baymax! Is a 6 episode animated show based on the Big Hero 6 franchise focusing on the loveable robot Baymax as he assists people with medical help. Maybe Baymax! Is made for a very young audience, but i don't know how anybody beyond the age of 5 could enjoy, it is so boring and predictable. However animation is very good for a kids show as you would expect from Disney. I liked that all the episodes came together in the last and some Baymax jokes were a bit funny and it teaches important things like importance of resting and notifying others of your health but all in all there are a lot of much better cartoons for kids.
Dead End: Paranormal Park (2022)
Good not great
Dead End: Paranormal Park fills the same space as shows like Infinity Train (RIP) and Gravity Falls of comedy animated series with a mystery aspect and I think it is succesful at it. I like the setting of the haunted house ans the animated is pretty standart for a modern cartoon. Thebest characters in my opinion are Pugsley, Courtney and Norma but the main character Barney and the main villain Pauline are boring. I feel like the show has huge discrepancy of quality, with episodes like "The Nightmare Before Christmas in July" and "Into the Fire" being amazing but episodes as "Wait Time: 22 Minutes" and "The Pauline Phoenix Experience" were pretty bad. I enjoyed it as a coming off age teen cartoon with good messeges for teenage viewers ("Trust Me" teaches about social anxiety and alot of episodes teach about friendship and not hiding away from difficult situations) but I hope that second season will fix some off the issues of this one.
The Cuphead Show! (2022)
Surprisingly good
Maybe it is not the best show to binge watch, but I still found it a fun watching experience. As I had not played the game, I did not have any previous attachment to the characters, however I was pleasently surprised when it turned out to be quite enjoyable and fun because often tv series bases on video games can feel quite cashgrabby. I realy enjoyed the setting of early 20th century without humans and the appropriate music and graphic choices. There are some episodes that are better than others (my favourite episodes are "Sweater Off Dead", "Roll the Dice" and "Ghosts Ain't Real". The ones i liked the least were "Root Packed" and "Dangerous Mugman"). All in all it The Cuphead show is one of the best cartoons of this year and it can be enjoyed by the whole family (which is a category of animated shows that gets less prevelent with each year). 8 out of 10.
The second season of The Cuphead Show starts by ending up the storyline of the first season with Ms. Chalice (a character I enjoy a lot). However this season episodes feel more disconnnected from each other than in the first season (I would have liked to have more Devil). My favourite episodes from this season are "Lost In The Woods" and "Charmed & Dangerous" but all in all this season was worse than the first one because the jokes were more repetitive and the episodes were too crazy and absurd for me, but I am exited for the next one which will start with some more Devil appearances. 7 out of 10.
Smiling Friends (2020)
The best animation series of 2022
Smiling Friends is a brand new adult animated television show on Adult Swim that is made by Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack, two guys I didn't know much about but it turned out to be surprisingly good. The animation style is more original than most of the adult animated tv series, furthermore I like workplace based comedies. All main characters are likeable and relatable, especially the friendship between Charlie and Pim. Smiling Friends has no bad episodes, but my favourite ones are "Desmond's Big Day Out" and "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back". Moreover this is some of the funniest tv ever, the absurd situations mixed with witty jokes and surreal humor. In my opinion Smiling friends are the best animated series of the year, my only criticism is that the episodes are little bit too short so sometimes they feel more like skits than full episodes in particular the last episode "The Smiling Friends Go to Brazil!"
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight (2022)
Good story, bad animation
Kung Fu Panda: the dragon knight is the newest Kung Fu Panda tv show, it tells the story of Po going on a journey with a British knight Luthera. The animation is absolutely awful probably the fault of the small budget which is a shame because I think the storyline in the show is pretty good and it is interesting to see how everything is connected and jokes are pretty funny - the same humour as in the movies. I don't know if I wanted more Po but this wasn't bad as animation quality would make it seam. All in all Kung Fu Panda: the dragon knight is very unnecessary cartoon and it would probably work better as a movie but this show is fairly watchable especially if you're a fan of Kung Fu Panda franchise.
Dodo (2021)
British comedy animated series about middle school
Dodo is a British cartoon about a middleschooler Joe who deals with the same problems as most at that age: fighting with his best friend, having crushes, being amberessed of parents so it definetly is very relatable. Dodo feels a lot like Tear Along the Dotted Line (other Netflix animated tv show) but this one is focusing on the awkward situations of a middle school than on life after highschool, i think they are very similar in the delivery of the stories (incerting main characters thoughts). The show is made as a comedy and it's definetly funny but it also has more heartfelt moments such as Disco and last four episodes. My only problem is that sometimes the pacing seams a little bit off but it is still pretty good animated show for all family.
