Anyone But You (2023)
I laughed a lot! For all the wrong reasons...
You can't take anything in this movie seriously, the acting is bad, the comedy is cringy, the situations are not believable, and all of this makes the romantic moments obsolete.
The acting is not great. Sydney Sweeney is a great actor, but I don't think in comedy movies, I found her great in Euphoria though. Glen Powell has a very punchable looking face. That really has nothing to do with the movie, just my raunchy personal opinion. What has to do with the movie is his acting is again subpar, he just has no range, it's boring.
The comedy is so awkward. It's all over the place, from seeing a man's penis out of no where, a they find a spider so they instantly rip all of their clothes off, which brings me to that the situations they get into are not natural or logical. Instantly ripping all of your clothes off and throwing them off a cliff seems like a last resort. And why did Sydney's character just leave in the morning, it has no reason, no motive, and is played off as her being like "idk I just got to go!". It's bad writing, forcing an unrealistic situation to drive a plot is just not fun and makes the characters seem not smart and not relatable. Some other examples are when she decides to climb over glens character to steal his cookie? In what world would this happen, and if it did, how the hell did he not wake up, also Sydney's character just deciding to leave the wedding and go across the city is again, a weird decision, and is there only to drive an already very unrealistic plot.
Lastly, all the romantic moments are squashed by all the other faults of the movie, not to mention the total lack of spark between the actors. No actors don't need to actually be in love to make love stories realistic, it's just that their love is so unbelievable. It just doesn't feel right.
In my conclusion, this movie is only worth to watch with a drink and group of friends to tear it apart.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
If you're a teen girl, it's a must watch.
As a teenager my opinion may not be as mature as some of the more seasoned reviewers, I'd just can't recommend this movie enough. A quirky coming of age, fun plot, and great humour, with a devastating undertone. It's an excellent look at life and as a teenager, it really helped me value my life. It's very wholesome and just all in all a kind movie. I loved the characters, and seeing Steve Carell play such a sad character always pulls at my heartstrings. His performance is top notch, a great and believable performance. The child actors do an amazing job, olive is such a complex and sweet character, and I loved how you can see her outlook on life without the movie being in her point of view. Paul Dano's acting was just amazing. His characters emotional ark is amazingly played and gut wrenching. The pure emotion is relatable and weirdly comforting even though I've never been more emotional watching a movie. It's a kind, valuable and important story.
