Road House (2024)
Road House II: A Disaster in the Floriday Keys
This movie is not good. The writing is amateurish. The acting, apart from Gyllenhal, is at the level of a community play. Gyllenhal is actually committed and believable, in incredible physical shape and carries the entire film. The owner of the road house should not ever act, or be cast in anything ever again. The love interest briefly meets Gyllenhal twice and then wants to sleep with him. As soon as McGregor comes on screen, I actually turned the film off, because I had watched enough. The best part of the film is a villain Jake beats up at the beginning, but then gets killed off way too early in the film. He is very watchable in the movie. The "Bad Guy" is an idiot that played an idiot really well in The Big Short. He is not menacing at all. Film Makers have lost their integrity. This movie is a platter of crap, served on a plate of hot trash. It's awful and embarrassing. Patrick Swaize was incredible in the original, and it's been a cult classic for forty years. This remake was not a good idea.
The Imitation Game (2014)
One of the best movies of the last 20 years
The Imitation Game is excellent filmmaking. Benedict Cumberbatch's performance is a masterpiece, to the point you forget he's acting, and believe he is Alan Turing. Keira Knightly is in it too. But I don't remember her performance because she's so beautiful, I lost all concept of time and space each time she shows up on screen. The pacing is brilliant, the writing is simple but compelling and tense, and musical score is subtle but very effective. This is exponentially better than A Beautiful Mind. The history alone is so captivating and interesting. I realize I'm writing this review 10 years later, but this movie demands many viewings. A masterclass in filmmaking.
Gran Turismo (2023)
Decent film, right up until the point they stole the soundtrack from an Iconic movie!
Heat is one of the most iconic movies of all time. At the end, Al Pacino finally gets the bad guy, Robert DeNiro, standing on the Tarmac of LAX. As the scene builds, this music enters in and then rises up to a crescendo, and carries us away into the final credits. A legendary original motion picture score for an iconic film that is immortalized in movie lore. And this movie stole it! What are you doing? You can't use an original motion picture soundtrack for a slightly above average sports film. If the filmmakers are reading this, I speak for all fans of the legendary film HEAT, and demand that you rescore the final scene with some of your own work.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Indiana Jones and the dial of disappointment
Harrison Ford is a legend, and his enormous talent is called upon to carry this reboot of the character he single handedly made iconic. Once again, he dawns the patented hat and whip with charisma and force. But even our hero Indy can't rescue this coffee house script, that may have not gone through a rewrite. The female lead is unwatchable, and I found myself wishing she'd go away, and take her unnecessary side kick with her. She looks like a WNBA star drafted to play a character in a movie. Her character is arrogant, and self absorbed. For some reason, she seems to have animosity towards Indy, but it's unexplainable why. There are a lot of classic chases, and different adventures, that are nostalgic for the original films. I saw Raiders of the lost Ark when I was 5, and I can still remember where I was when I saw it, it was that good and memorable. Harrison Ford recaptures the magic of young Indy. This film is not memorable or even very good, otherwise. The end plays like a sequel to Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Hello Ancient dudes! I left the theater realizing that the years of monumental film making are over, and these plastic, lifeless imitations are all we will get. Harrison Ford you're one of the greats, thank you for all of the incredible memories. But this one I'm going to try to forget.
Fatal Attraction (2023)
Stunning and brilliant portrayal
I was actually married to a woman diagnosed with clinical borderline personality disorder. This is exactly how she was. Faking suicide attempts (she mimic swallowed a bunch of pills and then spit them out) the haunting, obsessive stare, acting like their lover, intentionally injuring herself. She lost control one night and attacked me. In order to cover herself, she punched a solid oak coffee table and broke her own hand. She then tried to blame it on me. The actress is so brilliant in her portrayal. There is a need for societal awareness of this destructive illness. It's actually real and dangerous. I understand it makes for great entertainment, but it also can destroy marriages and families. I hope show opens conversation about borderline. Show reminds me of Gone Girl.
