Boy Kills World (2023)
Super fun bloody good time
This is an amazingly fun movie
Weird? Yes! But that makes it even better.
I have never seen a movie like this before, and that automatically bumps it up a few notches. Nothing better than watching some fresh material that, I'll be honest, I did NOT predict (which is a super power of mine, but I'll move on)
Super bloody. A lot of wicked, yet unbelievable, fight scenes. A plot twist. Incredible graphics. Amazing actors. Weirdly quick character development and investment.
A considerable amount of laughs thrown in. Bill Skarsgard ripped AF. What more could one want to relax on a weekend?!
There were some certain parts that made me annoyed they didn't cater to the audience and give us a "happiest" ending. But it works for the story line.
More, please! I do hope there's a random sequel.
Love Is in the Air (2023)
Feel good cheese
As an avid lover of rom coms, this movie is now one of my favourites.
Yes, it leans towards typical tropes; tension and an unwilling female lead, opposites attract, cheesy lines etc.
But gosh does it work. Perhaps it's because I'm Australian, but I found every moment of this movie charming and adorable.
We all know what's going to happen. But that's why we're here....we want the happy and cheesy. Throw in some beautiful scenery, and our Australian Queens Delta and Steph, the result is just magical.
This was never intended to be an Oscar bait movie.
Go into it as a feel good, cheesy, escape from reality and you'll be rewarded. And also contemplating booking your next holiday in far North Queensland.
Roar (2022)
Enjoy it for what it is
Some of the reviews left for this series demonstrate WHY shows like this are made in the first place. An attempt to educate and share the female perspective, that is then lost on those who find it difficult to empathise with another persons' experience.
The series improves with each episode, IMO. The first episode could've packed much more punch as it was flat narratively speaking. The penultimate episode where a woman solved her own murder was movie potential, and the last was a beautiful story of "the grass is always greener when you take things for granted".
It's not the BEST thing ever made for TV. However it is quirky; deep yet whimsical, serious yet silly. Watch it as mindless time wasting OR mentally churn over the meaning behind it: it really is your choice as a viewer. You will get more enjoyment from it if you like analysing allegories and applying it to your own interpretation. Not everyone does, and that's okay: but this series will likely frustrate you.
It's odd. And familiar as a female. Watch it in short digestible 30min chunk episodes if needed.
