Time Sleeper (2020)
Believe the negative reviews
This film is not worth your time. Mediocre in every department: story, dialogue, acting, editing; it's all sub par.
Also, the religious angle is pervasive and overly insisted upon.
Two stars for perseverance because somebody evidently believed in this enough to bring the project to a conclusion.
Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005)
Much more than expected
I'm ten times the age of the grandson with whom I watched this, and we both enjoyed it.
Some of the comedic effects are laboured (eg slow dramatic buildup to a banal anticlimactic event), others come as a nice surprise (the (mis)adventures of the "sleeping" sister, or certain pieces of dialogue).
The suspense works, if you free your inner child, and the actors just carry you along with the story.
Don't expect deep philosophy: this film is pure entertainment, and as such I cannot but rate it highly.
Kate & Koji (2020)
O... M... G...
I have rarely seen anything so dreadful.
The setup and decor send us right back to the 60's... but this is nor Steptoe and Son, nor Are You Being Served, nor even On the Buses...
Apart from a few satirical digs, the dialogue is a series of unfunny one-liners delivered by unbelievable characters manifestly invented as vehicles for the aforesaid rare piques.
Two episodes in, there is no sign of improvement.
Watch it at your peril.
A.P. Bio (2018)
Keep at it
This off-the-wall comedy takes some time to find its feet, but I was interested enough to keep going and by the fourth or fifth episode I was into it.
The audience follows the same path as the students in coming to terms with the eccentricity of the main character and finally seeign the positive aspects of his outwardly selfish behaviour.
Living Biblically (2018)
Not the worst sitcom I've ever seen but...
This isn't the worst sitcom I've ever seen (that honour would probably go to the deservedly short-lived "Work It") but it is a pretty generic one-liner-based show. There are moments that may make you smile, but I'm fairly sure you will rarely laugh at the cardboard characters and contrived situations.
