Elvis (2022)
Very Enjoyable
As someone who hates modern Hollywood movies but loves Elvis I was torn about seeing this movie. Eventually my love for Elvis won out and I went to see this and I am very glad I did. The acting was surprisingly great; Butler did such a good job of portraying Elvis that throughout the movie I found myself forgetting that he was an actor and not the real thing. Tom Hanks was very good as usual, and the supporting case was solid.
Although the acting was great, the thing that really made this film was the directing/editing. This is a very visually beautiful movie and some of the shots in this movie were simply incredible. I understand how some may think the whole movie was somewhat garish, but I think the tone that Luhrman was able to set throughout the entire film with his style was perfect for a story about Elvis.
Only complaint I have about this movie was some of the modern rap songs unnecessarily thrown in. I came to this movie to hear Elvis sing, not to hear some crude rap.
I was worried this would be just another Hollywood movie that would sacrifice the story in order to shove some political agenda down the moviegoers throat, thankfully Luhrman stayed away from that. This is just a wonderful movie with great acting, good directing and most importantly an entertaining and touching story.
Dodsworth (1936)
Depressing
I am a big fan of classic movies and William Wyler so I was looking forward to this, but came away very disappointed and could not wait for it to end. Some very good acting, but the story is just perverted and depressing. The only redeeming message from the movie is it terrorizes the watcher into thinking long and hard about how important is to marry a good woman. Prepare for h*** on earth if you marry a mentally unstable woman with loose morals.
Charade (1963)
Amazing Dialogue
Simply a wonderful all around movie. The plot is full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the very end. The dialogue is so witty and well-written it is almost unrealistic. Audrey Hepburn is wonderful as usual and Cary Grant gives one of his better performances in my opinion. Definitely would watch again.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
The Ultimate in Christmas Entertainment!
A classic story of a man who is torn between pursuing his childhood dreams or staying home and becoming the leader that his family and community needs.
This movie is all about a young adult becoming a man. George Bailey must set aside his foolish hopes and dreams to answer to a higher calling to save his family business and his whole town from being taken over by the greedy Mr. Potter.
This movie is not only very entertaining, but it is a challenge to every man to give up the temporary pleasures of adolescence in order to accept responsibility. Responsibility is what makes George Bailey a man and a local hero.
12 Angry Men (1957)
Simply Incredible!
If you do not rate this 10 out of 10 you are probably just a rabid feminist who is upset that such an amazing movie could be made using 12 white males.
The acting is incredible (especially Lee J. Cobb), the plot is engaging, and the script is well-thought out. All of the little things that were done to make it feel realistic was quite impressive.
There is nothing like a good old movie. When you have some of the best actors to ever live and an incredible script there is no need for big-budget action scenes, nudity, or foul language to retain viewer attention. This movie grabs the viewers attention from the get-go and never lets go.
