M3GAN (2022)
First 2 thirds excellent then generic rubbish
This seemed like a great film, actually was a great film until it turned into a generic and cheesy mess that was totally unoriginal in its execution. It really was like two totally different films, like they had one director for the first part which was intelligent and unique and then a different director, which may as well have been a cheap AI algorithm for the second part. My whole family loved the first part and hated the second part and it will be another movie to be forgotten. Also there was too much use of Jesus name. Why do they do that? It makes no sense, may as well say the name of any other religious figure.
My Father's Dragon (2022)
Please, read the book. This is horrible.
The book of My Father's Dragon is magical because it is the opposite of this trash. It is beautiful, simple and dreamlike. This "production" sums up what is wrong with people; they have something beautiful and they destroy it to make something ugly in their own image. Why call this "film" My Father's Dragon when it could have more accurately been called something like "Netflix Misses The Point"? The fact that people will like this is very sad and I'm sure the author would be very disappointed. Almost as disappointed as Tolkien would be with Amazon's joke. Anyway, I hope that someone will read this and actually read the book for the first time and see why this gets me irate. It's a beautiful book and every time I come across a copy I buy it for someone else to share with their kids.
The Prey: Legend of Karnoctus (2022)
I watched the trailer
Yes, I watched the trailer and that's why I gave it the benefit of the doubt and at least gave it a 2. All you have to do is see the monster to know your kids would laugh at it before begging to turn it off.
Eight for Silver (2021)
Stylish and refreshing.
Acting was great, everything was convincing and the effects were fine. There's not really anything objectionable and I was quite pleased that I paid attention to the good reviews. As far as horror films go, this was more like a nice single malt than a Jim Beam.
Those Who Walk Away (2022)
rated 3.8
If this film was rated by imdv according to those who actually bother reviewing it, before my own rating of 1 star then it would, with 37 reviews and a total score of 144 have only achieved a rating of 3.8 which is more than it deserves. I think the imdv official rating should only be according to those who have written a review and not just those who clicked a star.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Mostly Pretty Boring
So not much really happens for such a long film. It's more like a snapshot of the characters, certainly don't get to know them any better by the end of the film than you do just after their first introduction. There's a couple of races, some people yell a bit, some nasty guy tries to get his way and annoy people, and so on. I don't know, it's like the actors were really great at pulling off playing authentic seeming boring people. A rating of 5 is pretty high but films can certainly be a lot worse than this just that they can also be a lot better.
Hostiles (2017)
Great Quality Tripe
I actually like eating tripe very much but I hate watching it. Great filming, acting was really good. That's it.
Everyone is depressed or depressing, merciless and destroyed in character by the end of this miserable tale without any redemption. Great if you like feel bad films made to please highbrow "artistic" types.
RoboCop (2014)
Pretty perfect film
I have no idea what motivates people to rate this film poorly other than they just have very different tastes. It was made well, characters were excellent, it's suitable for adults and teenagers, effects were fine.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
"Intellectuals" can watch Arrival, I'd choose this.
I saw this after reading heaps of reviews and knew that I would either like it or hate it but all the negative reviews actually made me want to find out if it could be that bad. It's a little bit like Starship Troopers but I like this more and I think all the hate will make this some kind of cult classic in the future. It's a little bit like all the alien films out there rolled into one and if you can forget about all of them then this one stands alone quite well. As far as plot holes go, I think the idea is that there is just a lot of stuff that isn't explained and the main character doesn't know what's going on either. For example, how did the alien ship get here? Nobody knows and that's ok. There are mysteries in life and mysteries are cool. The only real negatives in this film are the overblown and silly end fight scene and a couple of aspects of the main alien. These things I can ignore because the rest of the film was fun and entertaining. I also think the main plot is actually pretty cool. "Intellectuals" can watch Arrival, I'd choose this.
Rurôni Kenshin: Sai shûshô - The Final (2021)
Disappointing
I really was looking forward to this. So many scenes are self indulgent, overly drawn out, trying to make a big emotional deal out of something with little substance. It was one of those films where you are overly aware that it is indeed a film, too easy to imagine the film crew and director there in every scene, no getting lost in the story for this one. I think they slowed down so many scenes in order to squeeze two more films out of the franchise. I know that everyone who likes Kenshin will watch this anyway.....
