Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
B movie with a massive budget
I've been in the mood for a sci-fi adventure inside a massive universe for some time now so I was pretty excited for this movie since the first trailer came out. Unfortunately this movie did not deliver.
Rather than Rebel Moon being inspired by past movies it instead feels embarrassingly derivative. So many things seem as if they were picked from different blockbusters and mashed up into one movie.
The action scenes are a slo-mo mine field. The heavy use of slow motion feels uninspired and is more distracting than anything else.
None of the actors performances are worth mentioning. The dialogue didn't give anyone much to work with.
The music score is completely pedestrian and unmemorable. The CGI is good and that is really the only part of the movie I felt entertained by.
Rebel Moon is a campy snooze fest with good cgi. I don't think a Zack Snyder directors cut is going to save this one.
Andor (2022)
Almost didn't bother
Marvel and Disney have been in quiet a tailspin in the post Disney era. After Kenobi and recent Marvel offerings I was just to give about to call it a day and retire from even entertainment the idea of watching new entries.
For Andor, the first 2 episodes were decent enough to keep me coming back for another episode. The 3rd episode is where I started to appreciate what this series was setting up and the tone it was going to carry through the season. By mid season I felt this was definitely one the must watches of the year.
I am looking forward to season 2 and do yourself a favor and be sure to stay through the credits of the finale episode!
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Out of Hope
Star wars is to tv what phone games are to video games. It's nothing more than a revenue generator anymore. It's really unfortunate that nothing more than fan made level of quality is all that can be expected from this once great IP. Guess it's time for me to stop hoping that something good is just around the corner.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Enter the Remix
Feels like a budget made knock off made for tv special. Action scenes have lost all their style. Writing and direction was poor. I'm growing tired of established franchises relying on call backs and nostalgia to make new movies. I'm not interested in remixes. Music score is uninspired. Not even worth a morbid curiosity viewing.
Don't Look Up (2021)
How is this getting poor reviews?!
Might as well be a prequel to Mike Judges Idiocracy. It may end up being my favorite movie of the year. Well written with an amazing cast. Hilarious and paints a picture sadly close to modern times.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Fun fan service but sloppy story
The action is great. It was fun seeing all the villains. Defoe is excellent. There was also some really heartfelt dramatic moments. I did like the ending. But...
PROBLEM 1:The whole genesis of the problems that Peter Parker faces is a complete betrayal of Dr. Stranges character. There is no way in hell he would gamble with the fate of the universe to cast this spell for Peter. Know matter how bad he wants things to be better for Peter.
PROBLEM 2: Now all of a sudden we can cure evil in our villains?! I found this to be ridiculous. Complete incompetence of Peter to just not hit the button and send these villains back to their universe. Way too much of a gamble to just keep all the villains around while he creates some drugs to cure mental illness.
