The Brave (2017)
Surprisingly Captivating
I didn't expect much from this show, but I figured I would watch it because I tend to like shows of this genre. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Yes, this show has a "beautiful cast" as another reviewer suggested, but, incorrectly, it doesn't detract from the talent of the cast & the stories they portray. Anne Heche leads a phenomal cast with characters who are very clearly flushed out, with deep backstories, & ready for more episodes. It's incredibly engaging, interesting, & I look forward to it every week. It's a real shame that it is only getting 13 episodes while its disappointing counterpart on CBS has 22... NBC should really make sure they don't lose another keeper!! It is special, which is rare these days, and it is on the same level as something like award-winning types like Homeland. I highly recommend this show if you like shows of this genre.
SEAL Team (2017)
Started watching this because Bones ended & I love David Boreanaz...
But right off the bat, I was incredibly disappointed. Benjamin Cavell usually creates master works, but this just falls flat. It is predictable & the cast really has no chemistry. As much as I love him, David Boreanaz is just Seely Booth with a different name on a different show. There are two standouts in this show: Neil Brown Jr & A.J. Buckley. They are what made me rate this a 6 instead of a 4. After Homeland & Justified, I expected more from Benjamin Cavell. And after 12 years watching David Boreanaz in Bones (& watching him grow as a producer & director) I certainly expected a much deeper & powerful performance. It's NBC counterpart The Brave is much more engaging & entertaining. If you're looking for a show of this kind to watch, watch The Brave, sadly, not Seal Team.
Law & Order True Crime (2017)
Ok here's the thing ...
I am, like another reviewer said, under 30, but I can tell what a biased representation of something looks like. This is incredibly biased towards the Menendez brothers & their lawyers; it felt kind of like an attempt to create another "Making a Murderer". But I disagree with the reviews that state the boys' acting was very "one note", but the series did run a bit long. By episode 6, I had a sense of 'come on already.' However, I rated this as a 7 because Edie Falco is just fantastic. She is incredibly believable, she LIVED in this role. She really is just amazing & that deserves to be recognized. And Carlos Gomez, whom I adore & think is tremendous, really made me hate him as Jose Menendez, so that definitely says something about the series & acting as well. It was good, but should have been shorter. Also, I think that Law & Order should stick to what makes it popular & not try to reimagine something like "Making a Murderer." If you're bored & like true(ish) crime, go ahead, you'll be entertained.
