True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
Season 4, Episode 6
2/10
Glad it's over!
19 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I will be disappointed if this gets nominated for any Emmy Awards. Up until now, I thought S2 was the low point, but this one was worse. Sorry Vince Vaughn... maybe you weren't such a bad gangster.

Season 4 acting was terrible, starting with the miscast and overacting Jodi Foster. The sets and directing was also bad. Undone jackets in December Alaska? An ice cave that looks like it may have been used in The Goonies. There was no likeable hero, no villain and no point. And plot holes..... what was the significance of the severed tongue? Wasn't Clark's body frozen dead with the others? Then it disappeared from the ice rink, and then in ep 6 we find out that he was hiding under the hatch door. What? What about the spirit that lead Rose from her house? The visions of Liz's son and the polar bear? Just a jumble of nonsense. Maybe True Detective ends with 2 good seasons 1 and 3, and 2 forgettable ones 2 and 4.

Sacrifice (I) (2011)

Embarrassingly Awful

I have to admit that I did not have the patience to watch this straight through. To be honest, it reminds me of what maybe a high school student would submit as a class project. The director should be ashamed, and should probably look for a new career.

Don't Look Up (2021)

Delightfully surprised

I honestly did not expect much of this film.... In fact the trailer really does not do it justice. However, this could be my favourite movie of 2021.

Not only good in storyline, but original and extremely well directed. I really hope this is an Oscar nominee for best picture. I'm giving it a solid 8/10.

Seems authentic and eerie

This was a very very good movie. The acting is superb and the old language used adds to the authenticity of it.

So so tired of movies set in times hundreds of years ago where women have beautifully coiffed hair, men swear and use slang that would never have been used, people have straight white teeth, and they kiss with open mouths. No! In the 1600s these were God-fearing people who would never swear as it would be a blasphemy. They never revealed any promiscuity for fear of being stricken down. Plain folks worked and little else. We have learned our lessons but men were considered superior and that's just the way it was.

On top of this it was a good story with several layers to analyze. One of my favourite movies in the last few years.
