Ibeon Saengeun Cheoeumira (2017)
Unconventional subtle romance; brilliant casting
This movie has been quite a surprise watch. Honestly, I had zero expectations from the romantic cliched of cohabitation plot but once I began, I was hooked. I love the lead characters and I think the casting has worked wonders in showcasing their quirky personalities. The script has a lot of depth in terms of feelings and the metaphorical dialogues and monologues have been woven beautifully. A lot of emotions are expressed and exchanged through the eyes and the subtlety scored above everything. I really enjoyed how overall this is a realistic commentary on marriage and the role of love in conjugal equations. Despite being a rom-com, the drama doesn't get too comical or superficial in its romance. It also does not follow the conventional storyline of boy meets girls and then they fall in love. One scene that I really liked a lot was the exchange between Ji-Ho and See-hee's ex girlfriend. It had a unique warmth and restraint and it beautifully done without getting too tense or dramatic at any point.

Unique and interesting plot makes this one watchable
In terms of the sci-fi that this story weaves, the execution is pretty impressive. It's very easy to go wrong with a storyline that is helmed on a fictional ailment but the script makes it convincing. It's also a lot like the Hollywood film her, triggering the much-needed conversation on how important is AI is replacing humans. What falls through in this drama is the chemistry between the leads in the second half. The second half drags with the romance hitting a brake but nevertheless it's quite watchable.

Loved the moments, characters and details
This is such a refreshing take on the college romance trope. The equation between the OTP develops beautifully and there's so much story in every little exchange and moments of silence. Despite being a romcom, it didn't get too casual or irritating at any point and the 24 episodes just fly by. Gu weyei's character sketch is very realistic and impressive and it's a treat to watch Situ Mo's ebullience. This one's a must watch for rom com lovers.

Storyline didn't live upto its potential, watch it for Wookie
The storyline of "Melting me softly" is a unique one, but the the biggest challenge with sci fi story line is that it should be backed up with thorough research. The solutions to the challenges that arise out of a bizarre experiment seem oversimplified, making the script too loose for its viewers. I appreciate how they have dared to explore something like this but it required better execution. Ji Chang Wook is a pleasure to watch, as always, and the lead pair looks cute together. However, what falls through is poor editing that focuses too much on forgettable side characters. K-dramas are known for their memorable side characters with impressive character arcs. The comic timing was also a little off and unrealistic with the lead characters being unrealistically jealous in their relationship when there's the looming concern of their possible fatality.

Wholesome entertainment, great chemistry, don't miss it
This remains one of my favourite K-dramas because of its high entertainment quotient. Apart from the fact that I'm very fond of watching Ji Chang Wook, I couldn't stop rewatching the scenes between all 3 lead characters. The chemistry between all 3 is beautiful. The characters are sincerely established and never for a minute does the series lose your interest. You are hooked to your seat till the last shot of episode 20. The action scenes don't get too gory, the romantic scenes are adorable without being unrealistic and the ending is by no means an idealistic one. Our titular hero is a flawed man and yet he wins our hearts in his evolution and struggle to live an "ordinary life". Chae yeong sin's brave and lovely character is the perfect foil to him and it takes heart to see them apart for long. Kim mun ho's matured silence and wise smirks take the cake in the high intensity scenes. Altogether, it's one hell of a ride that's totally worth it.

A tale of hope that breaks all stereotypes
What a beautiful tale of love that breaks free from the shackles of caste, class and religion. The ending was totally unexpected and remains with you long after it's over. Every frame and expression is a story in itself. Considering locals were taken for performance, this is a stellar watch. :)
Unorthodox (2020)
Beautiful feministic story of liberation
This one is another precious gem from Netflix. I am from India and I had no idea how orthodox the Jewish society and culture was until I watched this one. This is a coming-of-age story of a woman who is liberated in the very land where her ancestors were tormented and forced to flee. It's a beautiful and detached portrayal of a woman who does not want to "fit in" but cannot be termed as a rebel either. There is a bit of every woman in the protagonist who, despite a sheltered upbringing, fearlessly runs away to an unknown land to embrace a new life on her own.

Impressive story, stellar casting, gorgeous cinematography make you watch to watch it repeatedly
I am not a die-hard fan of romance, but I have watched enough romance to know the cliches and common plots. Once in several years, comes a movie or a series that gets you hooked onto your seat cherishing every single melodramatic moment, immersing you in the taut plot where you simply don't want it to end. "Crashlanding On You" is one such perfect drama. It ticks all the right boxes from crackling chemistry of the protagonists, gorgeous cinematography, catchy background score and lilting tunes to memorable side characters, brilliant editing and the ideal mix of fiction and real issues. A cross-border love of a North Korean army man and a South Korean chaebol enterpreneur is all you need to bingewatch this weekend and feel all the emotions within you. It will definitely remain one of my most favourite romantic stories of all time. :)
