The First Slam Dunk (2022)
Greatest Sports Movie Ever
As a fan of the manga over 30 years ago, I was kinda disappointed in the quality of the anime series. Thus movie fixed that. The animation was exactly how I imagined the scenes to be like when flipping through the pages of the manga. Even though I already knew how the match turned out, I still had to hold my breath and couldn't help but cheer like at a live sports event throughout the movie.
This movie no longer focuses on Sakuragi and the story is told from Ryota's perspective. Considering his back story wasn't developed much previously, this was a good decision to offer something new to fans of the manga and anime series.
Will someone not familiar to the franchise enjoy this? Not knowing the stories behind the other characters might make it difficult to connect with them, but I think everyone can enjoy the basketball scenes and the match which the entire movie is centred on.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Proving the online trolls right
It wasn't a great show but it wasn't terrible at first. Kind of a fun comedy making fun of superhero flicks in general. The first few episodes had some good action sequence despite the bad CGI. It all went downhill when the show makers started taking themselves too seriously and decided to add in scenes to attack online trolls, ironically proving them right as they ended up making themselves look like really sore people that could not accept that there are people who do not like the show. It just got worse just as it was getting better until it became a mess and I really have no idea what I just wasted my time on in the end.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Started off good...
First few seasons were fantastic. Then the story turned to crap.
The Witcher (2019)
A show where one needs to pay attention
This is one of those shows where you need to pay attention instead of playing with your mobile phone at the same time.
Firstly, it is a fantasy world based on Eastern European mythology which many are probably unfamiliar with. You can see this based on some of the silly things written by so called "professional critics" making fun of names and terms that are not anglicised. This is not just ignorant but it's also rude to other cultures as well.
Next, we have 3 separate storylines happening across 3 different timelines. This requires the viewer to pay attention to the details in each scene to piece the story together. It doesn't seem necessary to the plot at first but when everything comes together, the payoff for the viewer is extremely satisfying.
Geralt, the titular character is flat and emotionally plain with a dry sense of humor but extremely cool with a sword, or two, and a bit of magic. That's pretty much how Witchers are like and may put off some viewers.
My main criticisms of the show would be the monster designs and armor. The monsters look terrible and not in a good way. Geralt's armor just doesn't seem to fit Henry Cavill quite right and the Nilfgaardian armour with the wrinkled design seems a little comical. All these are subjective though and your opinion may differ.
