The Witcher: Reunion (2023)
Poor Story Telling
It's rather annoying when shows have two major plot lines and alternate episodes telling each story. You get a great cliffhanger, but the next episode is something that's occurring on the other side.
You know what's worse? Throwing several plot lines in the same episode. Now I get why they separate them. This is an absolute mess.
Ignoring the Cavill v Director/Writer conflict, I imagine the viewer would still have a major complaint with the story. It's hard to simply remember what happens after spending an hour watching without distractions
If you wanna steer clear of the source material, you need to do a good job of it and this is pathetic.
Ted Lasso: The Strings That Bind Us (2023)
Final season, getting licks in.
This show seems to be going downhill. There have been a few comments here and there this season with more left leaning ideologies - which is fine if it fits a character. Unfortunately, a lot of it has felt forced (Keely suddenly attracted to females despite showing absolutely zero interests in the prior two seasons).
This episode dives straight into it. The "shut up and dribble" comment relates to LeBron and the white female writer a few years back. And tbh, when you don't know what you're talking about, you should. Better to remain quite and not appear stupid than to speak and remove all doubt.
Ted Lasso: 4-5-1 (2023)
Not my Ted
This episode features something nobody wanted, and another sequence that goes against a character's established personality.
The green matchbook. Most of us are rooting for Rebecca to get with Ted I would imagine. Is it the obvious and most predictable outcome - yes. But it is still one that could be thoroughly entertaining. While this gripe is just about preference, the 1 star review is because of the acquisition of Zava.
Ted supporting the addition of a player that is known for destroying teams goes against everything that makes him a great coach, friend, etc. The corner locker set-up is atrocious. What are they doing with Ted's character...
Reacher (2022)
Easy watch, but mediocre writing/acting
***WARNING***SEASON FINALE SPOILERS***
I legitimately enjoy the show, but there are a few things that plainly...suck.
Some of the moment are so cliche that it's a bit of an eye roll. The finale when the place blows up and he just walks away...very corny.
The lack of discipline and realism with firearms is astounding. I don't care how big you are, if you are human, you are not firing that handgun with one hand unless you'd like it to smash you in the face.
Overall, the show is fun to watch. I'm going to watch future seasons. I hope they tighten up the writing and realism of combat sequences, but I would still recommend.
The Blacklist: Dr. Laken Perillos (No. 70) (2021)
Blame the writers, not the cast
It feels like we're missing a season. The transition from Keen being this incredibly smart criminal, the FBI being absolute idiots, etc. Is almost non-existent.
It's as if we don't have the same characters from the previous season. Dembe not blasting the torturer, Aram getting bamboozled by Keen for the upteenth time while saying he's not going to let it happen again, Ressler bending the rules again and again because Keen cares about him...this writing is just pathetic.
My first time seeing Laverne Cox. People seem to like her, but I hope this wasn't her best performance because it was worse than Keen. I feel bad for a lot of the female cast. It seems like they get a lot of the poor writing and lines that piss the audience off.
The Blacklist: Gordon Kemp (No. 158) (2020)
Controversy drives traffic, but it's always one side that's "right"
It's understandable for shows to explore controversial topics. I mean, look at the comment section of this episode. It gets people talking, and arguments tend to drive more traffic unfortunately.
This show doesn't stray far from doing this same thing. From the woman that makes men get pregnant for "controlling women's bodies" to this episode. It's a shame this show (and virtually the majority of others) always tend to place the left side in the lime light and the right as not just wrong, but evil.
It is what it is, but it is also rather lazy. Is it an absurd idea to try swinging the perspective in the other direction?
The Blacklist: Hannah Hayes (No. 125) (2019)
forget politics, this episode is just terrible
This episode is ROUGH. The whole theme is men are pigs. I'm not saying it's incorrect, but can we not agree that this is low hanging fruit? It's like making fun of the President, it's just easy. It seems the writers are out to get applause and "Woo's" rather than dramatic gasps.
If it wasn't for the small advancement of the main storyline, I'd recommend skipping the entire episode. James Spader and the actress portraying Catarina do a phenomenal job - other than iM TiReD oF MeN cOnTrOlLiNg My LiFe.
I'm all for controversial topics, but there's a reason the sides writers showcase are those of the left side, it's just easy.
The Blacklist: Lady Ambrosia (No. 77) (2016)
For a filler episode, it was terrific
For the record, I am incredibly biased. This is most certainly a filler episode, but as a proud parent of twin boys with special needs; this was one of my favorites. The scene with Red telling Theo everything deserves had my wife and I ROLLING.
There is a little advancing of the main and secondary storylines, but the main focus was definitely on this filler that served as a great message.
Oh, and the boy that picked up that pen and held onto it...if that is not our boys! It was so nice to see such a small detail that relates so well to the situation they are in be a focal point. We related to that so much.
The Sandman (2022)
Lazy and forced "inclusion" weakens the story
The show is done rather well, but swapping genders/race/etc. For the sake of inclusion does no one any good.
I understand the desire to include more diversity, but you owe it to the target audience to spend some time creating a unique character rather than altering defined ones.
The casting of Lucifer and the story from episode 4 is absolutely piss poor. Supposedly most beautiful (find out quickly that's debatable) and most wise (easily defeated when the sandman is at his supposed weakest).
Without revealing too much of the story, it has a great premise. Most of the supporting cast has great character development and surprisingly a tremendous amount of screen time. Watching for the story, but cringing through the forced inclusion - it's painful at times.
The Boys: The Instant White-Hot Wild (2022)
A terrific build to a lackluster finale
The season was immaculate, but hardly anything changed for a start point of next season other than Maive is powerless and Black Noir kicked the bucket (btw I'm not convinced he has, yet and what a disappointing season he had regardless).
In The Boys defense, many shows are doing similar things where a character is presumed to have died, but they're either resurrected or never did. The awkwardness from everyone standing in front of soldier boy while he is "charging" and then she has enough time to make eye contact, hit homelander back, and then sprint to take him out the building? Bro, what? It's like wrestling when all the wrestlers are waiting to catch a high flyer, but they're standing there awkwardly for a looooooong period of time.
Superstore: Election Day (2016)
Lackluster comedy with democratic pandering
The core stories of the show are actually enjoyable, but it does seem like there are several attempts of pandering to a specific consumer that do nothing to advance the story.
Suits: Right-Hand Man (2018)
Heigl...oof.
Man...I love this show. Mike and Rachael leaving sucks. The rest of the episode was *okay*, You can definitely see some character growth, but the addition of Heigl is rough.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Good Ones (2021)
Leftist Waterboarding
I don't mind political views being discussed on the show, but within 5 minutes Coronivirus, all first responders vaccinated, George Floyd, police brutality, ACAB, etc. Does every show have to do this?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Return of the King (2019)
No more Gina
Gina was insufferable, but the rest of the episode was good. Too bad Gina was so bad, I was compelled to give this one star. She used to be such a strong character, but this arrogance she was given in later seasons is obnoxious.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: He Said, She Said (2019)
We just gonna ignore the sexual harassment meant as humor?
Talk about the pot calling the kennel black. Past episodes with Gina & Terry in scenes together does not reflect well when compared to this one. This season definitely has its struggles with material.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Casecation (2019)
Easily the worst episode so far
This is a great show, but man this was bad. I get that people are passionate about kids, but Amy was so ugly about it. Great idea, terrible execution.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
The REAL finale was S15E19
If you made it this far, you at least at one point in time were a huge fan of the show. Regardless of opinions, we all watched 320 episodes of monster hunting.
Tbh, the real finale was the previous episode. This episode exists to provide complete closure. No twists or turns really; just an ending. This show has never been a top 5, but a consistent "decent" to "pretty good" with a few extreme good/bad moments sprinkled in.
Thanks for the ride.
The Blacklist: The Kazanjian Brothers (No. 156/157) (2020)
Good adjustment - Poor execution
Bravo to the team for being flexible and finding a way to finish the episode. The animation though...was rough. If you're a Grand Theft Auto fan, it's awesome. If you are not, you're lucky to finish the episode.
I respect the hustle and effort to finish the season, but the animation was just as poor as some of the storyline throughout the season.
Destination Wedding (2018)
A movie without a single pause
Strap on your seatbelts, because it's about to get ROUGH. It felt as if a team of writers, producers, a director, among others decided to sit down and devise an elaborate scheme to dismantle the careers of Reeves & Rider. This, "film" provides a slightly more elaborate visual for what I assume was actually a table read. I have witnessed more emotion in my pet hamster, and he's dead. The only thing more embarrassing than this catastrophic disaster some call a movie are the people mentioning how great the dialogue is. Have you ever talked to an actual person before?
The Ranch (2016)
Part 1-5 = 8*, stopped watching after
After the horrific ending of part 5, I naturally googled wtf happened and stumbled across the firing of Masterson. Somebody claim sexual harassment from 15 years ago to whoever made that god awful decision so they can be fired too.
Btw, why the hell would rooster NOT HAVE A GUN ON HIM? All these jokes about all the ammo and weapons they have, but Rooster isn't packing all of the sudden? GTFOH. Terrible.
