Put the chestnut man at the top of your watch list.
It's a series I didn't want to end. It held me from start to finish. The tension in the final episode is almost unbearable. This is edge of the seat stuff of the highest calibre The mystery slowly unfolds whilst never being obvious Characters slowly develop as we start to see them differently in different situations The chestnut man is the sum of its parts. And there are so many parts to it.
There's an avoidance of clichéd characters and predictability that we now see in so many series The chestnut man also illustrates how you can make a compelling series without swearing and sex scenes
The chestnut man is a triumph and needs to be seen.

True Romance unashamedly copies and recreates the seminal movie Badlands.
It's got the same music and narrative.
It differs in style and pathos. Few films have a much style and pathos and badlands.
True romance is a classic though.
Its psuedo art house style has the trademarks of early tarrentimo.
I wonder why?
True romance is deliberately overplayed with actors deliberately overplaying.
This rarely works in films but Tony Scott nails it.
There isn't really a story in true romance. It's rather a series of related vignettes Once again, another tarrentimo foible True romance is special. It's the sum of all it's parts.
If true romance grabs you then watch badlands next as badlands will scoop you up and drive you away across the country to an even darker place.

I wasn't sure about this series after EP 1. But things got going after that and what a ride it was.
I thoroughly enjoyed the crow girl. It really held me.
The series has quite a few things going on at once. You've got misdirection and red herrings thrown in for good measure.
The leads are excellent. Support is very good too.
Maybe the most unconvincing is the doctor but there's a reason for that.
The series avoids getting bogged down in internal and family politics. Yes there's some in there but they never get intrusive.
I'm Really looking forward to the second season.
I originally thought it was a self contained one off series.
Thankfully it's not.
Can't wait for season 2.
