Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Excellent film!
This adaption of Harry Potter rocks! All the actors were terrific in their roles esecially the young man who played Oliver Wood! Chris Columbus may have been an odd choice for director, but he never let's his more slapstick side show. Daniel Radcliff as Harry Potter was very exceptional for a chlid actor. Emily Watson as Hermione Granger was very exagerrated inn her role, but it goes well with the character. The special effects were phenomanal! I especially enjoyed the fast paced Quidditch match. The worst done sequence was the giant chess board scene, which was just pieces collapsing over and over again. Take your children, no, rephrase that, take your WHOLE FAMILY with you to see this terrific movie! I give it a full 5 out of 5 (excellent)!
Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983)
Best Disney Film Ever! (Spoiler Alert!)
First of all, this film is not for children. My daughter, who is seven years old, saw this film and had nightmares for weeks. But this is a terrific film for adults. Before watching the film I read the book, which let me notice the more sudle touches, like the marching band playing the funeral march backwards. Ray Bradbury adapted the screenplay from his novel, and the movie is just as good. The cast is brilliant! Jason Robards, Jr. is terrific as Dad, and Jonathan Pryce as Mr. Dark is chilling.(Spoiler Alert! Please turn back if you don't want to know about one of the most shocking moments in the film!) The scene where the merry-go-round turns Mr. Dark into a skeleton is one of the most terrifying images I have ever seen on screen. The only bad thing about this film are the missing scenes that are in the book but not in the film, like the mute lady riding in the balloon. Something Wicked This way comes is on top of my list of films to be remade by Tim Burton. I really hope he does a remake.
Panda kopanda (1972)
Terrific movie
Panda! Go Panda! is a great film for everyone young and young at heart. Panda! is the story of a little girl who has no papa and mama, who meets two pandas, a papa and a baby who join her little family and have really cool adventures. My favorite scenes are the ones with Neimiko and Papa and Panny sailing on a bed over a flooded town. A must see for all animation fans!
Junior (1994)
Very strange, but funny
This film is one of the strangest films I've ever seen, and I've seen some pretty strange movies (Attack of the Killer Banana anyone?). Although extremely strange, it's funny, in only a way the director of Ghostbusters could make it. Arnold's explanation of why he's so ugly in drag is hilarious. Emma Thompson gives a particuarly good role by Danny DeVito. Worth a rental, if not a buy.
Mr. Magoo (1997)
This movie stinks!
I think this is one of the worst films of the millennium! Leslie Neilsen is terrible as the Magoo. I think all prints of this film should be destroyed. Whoever laughed even once during this movie must be 2 years old. Warning Will Robinson, no plot. Warning, warning, warning. The cartoon is so much better.
Pokemon sunappu (1999)
Great!
This is a must play game. The graphics are simply amazing and the way things work in the game. I like it especially because you don't have to use the joystick. I'm not actually part of this Nintendo thing, but it's pointless fun anyway. And there actually is a Scyther.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
It's a ten! It's a ten!
Better than the original! Spoofing everything from The Wizard of Oz to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, this is another must see film! The script is hilarious, the acting terrific, this is altogether a film that should've won the Oscar. In the words of Leonard Maltin: "It's a ten! It's a ten!''
Gremlins (1984)
One of the best.
This is one of the best films ever made, in my option. A must see film. Some of my favorite scenes: The movie theater, the toy shop, and the kid in the tree suit. This is OK for the kiddies, though it is rather violent. Funny, check out the reference to Forbidden Planet!
The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)
Great movie!
This is a must see film for film buffs and fans of Vincent Price. Price gives one of his best performances as Dr. Phibes, a doctor revenging his wife's death by killing the 9 who let her die. Hilarious. Not for children.
