Red Hot Chili Peppers: Off the Map (2001)
Great show
This is a great show, I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live so i was really happy with this. I've seen slain castle before, i did not like it at all. I'm a fan of the older Chili peppers albums and i hated how they didn't play any at SC. If you're a fan of the old stuff too, you'll love this DVD... they played stuff like Subterrain blues and if you have to ask... totally unexpected.
As for the DVD quality, it looks as though they didn't mike the crowd. it sounds really dead in there... that takes away from the experience but the boys make it up with an unbelievable performance... (or performances since it's more than one show).
Irréversible (2002)
Incredible
being a little tired of American cinema, I decided to look for European movies. lately i have been watching french movies (from France). i rented and later bought Baise-moi (aka rape me). in reading the user comments on the IMDB board for baise-moi, i came across Irriversable. I bought it without even seeing it first. let me tall you one thing. this movie is no let down. it is nothing short of a masterpiece. it is not easy to watch though, there are some incredibly disturbing and graphic scenes in there. i think that people that rated it any lower than a 8/10 were probably turned off by this. I don't want to give out the story but i will say this much... once you've seen this movie, you'll never forget it. it is that strong, I gave it a 10/10.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)
ahead of its time
I watched this with one of my buddies one night. He fell asleep and anytime that he woke up, he kept telling me that this is the slowest movie that he had ever seen. i have to admit, it was a real slow movie but does that really matter? i don't think so... not if the story is compelling. The problem here is not that the movie is boring or slow. the problem is that people compare it to movies that are coming out today. In a world of high speed chases and incredible special effect its no wonder that people think that this movie is slow or boring. people just don't have patience for slower movies. one thing is for sure, this is a very good movie.
one thing i gotta say Mia Farrow was HOT. i give the move a solid 8/10 and i give Mia Farrow a very solid 10/10
Le party (1990)
real moody movie
This movie really hit the spot, it is made to be a moody movie and acheives that. The only scene that shows any hope for the characters is the prison break. the rest is pure dispair. there are beatings, rape, a suicide and even a transvestite.
Like another user said in a comment, it really shows that prisons do not really rehabilitate inmates. Like other prison movies such as the Shawshank Redemption that it destroys the human spirit instead.
wished that we saw more great movies like this from quebec. The industry is having a hard time due to the fact the movies generally do not do well in france because of the language barrier.
real hard movie.
good quebec production
Le lac des morts vivants (1981)
brutal
I don't know that this is the worst movie that I've seen in my life, what I do know for a fact is that I've never seen a worst movie.
Zombie Lake (lac des morts vivants) has a brutal combination of awful acting, really bad makeup and an even worst script. sets start with the acting and the dialog in this movie. at one point a man looses his daughter to the zombies. the mayor (who is in charge of absolutely everything) pulls him aside and says "listen... i know how you feel about your daughter". to which the man replies "yeah i know". and leaves without a tear. writing it here does not do justice to how bad that scene was.
then there is the makeup. the zombies are forest green, people who die in France, turn forest green... weird.
The plot... the reason why these zombies come back to life is because in the second world war, they were ambushed by the villagers. The mayor after seeing all the dead bodies says"we can't leave them here". one of the villagers says "lets throw them in the lake". What they don't say and what we find out later on is that this lake was where french people used to sacrifice babies to appease the devil in ancient times.
I could honestly sit here and write for 3 hours about this movie. I give it a 0/10... yet I'm happy i saw it.
No profanar el sueño de los muertos (1974)
Let the sleeping corpses lie aka Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue
Let the sleeping corpses lie aka Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue aka don't open the window aka Non si deve profanare il sonno dei morti is a great zombie movie. Director Jorge Grau even says that he has lost track of all the names given to his movie.
This is not your typical zombie movie however, a shot to the head will not do on these creatures of the night. They are also really strong, and contrary to other zombie movies, they do not kill by eating the living... the choke and crush them first.
I think that what makes this movie even creepier is the soundtrack. when there is a zombie approaching, you hear these incredibly stressing sounds. Creepy as hell. the special sound effects seem to be a common thing for spaghetti zombie movies from the '60s and '70s. there is an article on this in the magazine "Rue-Morgue"
This movie is a classic, scarier than night of the living dead, dawn of the dead and day of the dead. if you like zombie movies... its a must see.
Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001)
Great Movie
wicked movie
people need to understand something about this movie... its not supposed to be serious, its not supposed to have great actors, its not supposed to have great sound, blood and special effect. its a satire, the movie basically laughs at itself. it really is not supposed to be taken seriously, it is just a funny movie with a goofy plot and goofy looking effects. going by this it is an amazing movie. the only thing that would add to this (and only because its a corny, cheezy B movie) is some nudity that is absolutly in no way necessary to the develppment of the story. sterman666 gives this cult classic a 2 enthusiastic thumbs up.
Shock Waves (1977)
Shock Waves not really a zombie movie
I just watched shock waves last night and found a few problems with it. first off the "zombies" are too nice looking and they move way to humanly. they are supposed to have lived under water for 40 years or so, yet there is practically no signs of decomposition. they also walk real fast just like a soldier. I guess i shouldn't compare this move with great zombie movies like night of the living dead or dawn of the dead but when you say zombie in your subtitle (the best of the nazi zombie movies) you're sorta asking for that. I'm in a good mood this morning so i'll give it a 5/10. if you're in the mood for a good zombie flic, rent night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, zombie(aka zombi 2).
End of Days (1999)
The great movie that could have been
Before you listen to all the critics say that this movie sucked and nothing good came out of it, you should really have a look at it. It's true that the movie was pretty bad, but not necessarely because of Arnold. True it's not his kind of movie, but he wasen't all that bad in it. What was bad is that they modified the movie so that it still has the Arnold feel to it. If they would have signed Kianu, Pitt or even Willis, the outcome would have been much better. I do beleive that the movie had some serious potential.
Magnolia (1999)
Magnolia = Masterpiece
Magnolia is a great movie that diden't seem to get the recognition it should. The cast is great as every character is able to touch us. In my view, it is as good if not better than American Beauty. If you liked American Beauty you will love Magnolia.
