Tales from the Darkside: Grandma's Last Wish (1985)
Season 1, Episode 22
Funniest Episode Of All!
6 September 2011
I found this episode a joy and a hoot - I decided to save it for showing to other people. I don't want to give anything away, but I this is one of the better Tales IMO. I was giggling to myself during the entire episode and had to watch it twice the same night.

Watching this episode has me intrigued as to what my own old age will be like. I sincerely hope not, but who knows?

This episode does bring it home that maybe we should be a little kinder and gentler toward aging relatives than what our society seems to think.

The actress playing grandma is a real charmer, and her "family" were royal pains. The actors playing grandma's family gave her some marvelous acting support. It's a very good episode that deserves a higher rating than what it has been given.

Three Rivers (2009–2010)
The show is dead in the water
6 October 2009
What a turkey! I adore Alex O'Loughlin. Loved him in Moonlight as Mick St. John. But this show is so dull and lackluster. I don't expect it last more than few weeks at best. Sorry Alex. Its pretty bad IMO.

Its not the right format for him. Maybe a vampire surgeon would be more interesting? CBS, don't try to steal House M.D.'s thunder.

Alex could be a major breakout star with the right vehicle, but this isn't it! So far, the biggest drawback to both his series, is they try to be too flashy and stylish in their production values. Go back to the drawing board please. Alex deserves better than being given this crap to star in!

A sweet little gem of a movie
25 January 2007
Not a classic, but not a complete bomb either. It was one of those films that a store discounts to get rid of by selling it on the cheap rack because it doesn't immediately grab its audience.

The first couple of times I viewed it, I wasn't crazy about the production values...could be better. On the other hand, the actors have their own special charm, especially the two "wives".

The husband, though flawed, shows a heart-breaking humanity, desperation and pain underneath his naughty behavior that's quite appealing on its own.

Maria, the Italian wife, is so smart and resourceful, its hard not to like her. Charlene, Brooke Shields' character, has this fragility under a veneer of toughness, that soon lets you know she's a woman who's been hurt. Together both women, overcome their pain and grow to try again that is beautiful to see.

This film has a charm not readily apparent, but grows on you. Watch a couple of times and learn to appreciate.

A Nice Little Film that's a Real Prize Winner as well
2 August 2006
I happened to pick this gem up from the previously viewed rack. I had never heard of it before then. It has turned out to be one of my favorites. I'm glad I snatched it up and bought it.

Its a real shame it didn't get a bigger advertising budget or bigger release. As another person said, its a thinking person's film. Give yourself a treat and watch it. Juliane Moore makes an excellent Evelyn Ryan.

Definitely gives you a feel for the 50's, showing a fantastic and creative woman struggling to raise her large, financially distressed family with brains, wit and optimism. - A highly inspirational movie!
