Aks (2001)
AKS captures one of Amitabh's finest performances as an actor.
I thought the movie AKS (meaning reflection) was just incredible. When it came out, it wasn't the customary type of Bollywood film that everyone was used to. This would be a good explanation of why it didn't do so well at the Box Office. Since people are used to song and dance features with limited story and this movie was heavy on story and limited on song and dance.
The movie borrows very lightly from the movies 'Face/Off' and 'Fallen'. Bachchan plays the role of a high-ranking cop, Manu Verma, who is assigned to protect an Indian politician. Manu Verma fails in his duty as the official is murdered and a floppy disk containing details of an assassination of another official is taken.
The chase is now on to stop the murderer Raghavan (Manoj Bajpai, who is extraordinary as a nutcase) at any cost. Manu catches the killer and during an escape attempt, both killer and cop shoot each other. The killer dies but his soul somehow manifests itself in Manu's body and Manu himself becomes the killer. The killer's soul, now in Amitabh's body, continues his reign of murder and mayhem.
Amitabh is amazing in his role as cop and killer. Nandita Das plays his wife convincingly and the age gap between the two is explained as well. Raveena Tandon is also very convincing as the stripper girlfriend of the killer.
If you're looking for a change of pace from the regular Bollywood flicks, this is definitely the movie you should watch. There's no 23 minute death scenes, or people living after being shot 44 times in the chest. I'd have to say it was one of the Amitabh's best performances of his career, not the best, but one of the best.
That Was Then (2002)
A million times better then the ****fest called "Do Over"
When I first heard about this show, I thought that it was going to be a crapfest, but boy, was I ever wrong! The writing is amazing, the concept is a cool one, and TYLER LABINE is the scene stealer of the show!!! Did I say the writing is amazing? Well if I did, I'm saying it again! The music in the show is awesome too, it's your favorite 80's hits being used as mood music for the scenes!
My newest favorite show is THAT WAS THEN!!! Tyler Labine = Huge Future Star!!!
Shikari (2000)
The movie was crap, the acting was great (may contain spoilers)
This has to be one of the worst story lines ever for a movie. Although the story wasn't much, the performances in the movie were amazing, especially Govinda's and Tabu's.
It's not often you get to see Govinda in a negative role, and that is why his performance was so awesome. Who would have ever imagined Govinda as a psychopath.
And Tabu was great as usual, although she could have used more screen time.
Karisma Kapoor was the one who was wasted in the film, her character was down right annoying, what happened to you Karisma?
The Teddy Bears' Christmas (1992)
Great Animation, fun for everyone. The Entire family will love it.
I absolutely loved the story here, very heartwarming, and a great movie for the whole family to watch together. It will bring everyone's spirits up. Kudos to the director for a great job well done.
Keep making great films like this, and the world can be a better place.
Off Centre (2001)
From the makers of the American Pie movies comes..
From the makers of the American Pie movies comes a great comedy made for the small screen. You may recognize two of the shows characters, Eddie Kaye Thomas as Mike (FINCH in AP), and John Cho as Chau (the MILF guy in both AP's). I just happened to catch an episode of this show on TBS and I love it. If you catch this show, and you're a fan of the AP movies, you'll love this.
Lady of the Lake (1998)
Horrible, horrible, & oh yes, did I mention, its horrible!!
This has to be one of the worst movies that has ever been made in the history of film, even worse than "Motel Hell". The acting is horrible, the dialogue is horrible, and the special effects are horrible (actually, the cheesiness of the special effects is the only good thing about this movie.) Do not rent this movie, do not watch it on PPV, wait for it to come on regular cable some late, late Saturday night when your having trouble sleeping. I guarantee you that this movie will knock you into that deep sleep that you will be wishing for while watching it. Oh yes, and please pray that there aren't sequels to this movie, cause if there is, you'll know that it's the end of the world.
Cleopatra 2525 (2000)
Eh? A Stripper fighting robots, suuuuuuuuure....
A Stripper is cryogenically frozen in the year 2001 and unfrozen in the year 2525. Many things have changed, Robots have taken over the earth, forcing humans underground to fight for their freedom. I first thought this would be extremely lame, but I had to give it a chance. The special effects are really good, and the writing, surprisingly is good too. The show is only half an hour though. All in all, its an OK show, i give it a 5 out of 10..
Sooryavansham (1999)
Great movie, Amitabh's performance deserves awards.
This has to be the best Amitabh Bachchan film since his comeback. Amitabh's acting is superb in this film. The songs are not that great with exception to one (Koray Koray Sapne). These are the kind of films Amitabh should be choosing, the kind where his characters grow. If you have a chance to watch this movie, do it, because it is a great movie, with great dialogue. I give it an 8 out of 10.
Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999)
If your watching this movie, it is probably because your being forced to.
This was an utterly crappy movie. For what reason Amitabh Bachchan chose to star in this piece is beyond my thinking. The movie deals with the Indian/Pakistan situation. The reason this movie is crappy is because it is simply told from the Indian point of view. Plus, the basic plot is simply horrible. Twin brothers separated at birth, one grows up in Pakistan and one grows up in India. I simply cannot go on about this horrible movie, it is that bad.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998)
Watch the first 2 hours, then shut it off.
The first 2 hours are okay, but then it just turns to garbage, but fun garbage nonetheless. The songs in this movie are great. I understand that the first two hours of the movie was supposed to be a take on the movie Bad Boys, but after the bad boys story line is over the movie just goes into a downward spiral. I give it a 5 out of 10.
Coolie (1983)
Amitabh is truly an awesome action hero.
This movie is fantastic. Amitabh stars as the orphaned Iqbal. He grows to become a coolie in the railway stations of India. His mother was kidnapped by an ex of hers when Iqbal was a child, the ex wanted the mother so bad, that he caused a city wide flood (yeah right!) His father is believed to be deceased and the only family he has are the coolie's he works with. He is the man who picks up the entire worlds' luggage on his shoulder. The songs are good. I give this classic movie an 8 out of 10.
Nastik (1983)
Great movie for Amitabh fans.
Great movie, great acting, great songs. Amitabh is amazing as usual in his role as Shankar. Amjad Khan gives a fantastic performance as well as the villain Tiger. Pran is also great in his role as Amitabh's friend and a father in pain. The storyline is that of revenge (in an indian movie, nooo!). Amitabh plays the "Nastik", a man who shuns his religion because his faith could not save a loved one. Hema Malini also stars as the heroine. I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
Laawaris (1981)
Truly, one of Amitabh's best films.
Amitabh stars as the "Lawaaris" Heera referred to in the title of the film. A boy, abandoned at birth, sent to be raised by a drunken bum. He grows to be a man who cares for others, while trying to find out his meaning in life. He encounters many obstacles in the way, such as a public beating. The songs are great. The movie has its share of action, but moreover has superb acting. I give it a 9 out of 10
Boiler Room (2000)
Young Stockbrokers with an attitude....
This was a great movie. The movie is told from the point of view of Giovanni Ribisi's character, Seth Davis. The film depicts Seth's successful rise and his downfall as a stockbroker. The movie begins by getting straight to the point and ends the same way, by getting straight to the point. The soundtrack to the movie is especially amazing. It is full of fast and slow paced hip hop beats. I give this movie an 8 out of 10. See it if you have the chance. Also Jamie Kennedy (Scream 1 & 2, Bowfinger, Three Kings) is especially hilarious in his role, another reason to watch the movie.
King of the World (2000)
Not the Greatest (movie, that is)...
This movie only portray's the part of Muhammad Ali's life that dealed with him winning the heavyweight championship for the first time from Sonny Liston and portraying how he became a muslim. The movie wasn't a masterpeice, but I guess it is watchable. If the movie would have portrayed his entire life story, then it may have been better. I'm sure there are better movies than this to watch. I give it a 4 out of 10.
Time of Your Life (1999)
Good Show, but JLH talks to much
The show is good, its a spin off of Party of Five. The dialogue is good, the only bad thing is, Jeniffer Love Hewitt talks way too much. I think that the writers should give a chance to the other characters to speak. This is actually a great show with witty characters and great dialogue, but it shouldn't all go to JLH.
The Soul Collector (1999)
Funny, Romantic, Warm hearted
This movie stars Bruce Greenwood from "Nowhere Man" and "Double Jeopardy" fame, and Melissa Gilbert. Bruce Greenwood is Zacharia, a "soul collector" that neglects his duties and is banished to live as a human for one month to see how it feels to be a human. Bruce Greenwood is great in his role as a soul collector, as is Ossie Davis who stars as his superior. If your looking for a romantic, warmhearted, funny movie, this is the movie for you to watch.
Ryan Caulfield: Year One (1999)
Great Show, About a Rookie Cop
I thought this show was going to be bad from what i saw in the commercials, but i just happened to catch it, and i have to say, it is pretty darn good. Its about a 19 year old rookie cop who just started his job. It has its share of drama, comedy, action, and romance. If you have a chance to watch this show, dont miss it, it is really good.
Roswell (1999)
Good show, sort of like x-files
This show is sort of a mix between X-files and every other high school show out there. I am watching it right now, and so far it is really good. Jason Behr from "Dawson's Creek" is one of the lead stars in this show. He play's an alien that has been living as a high school student, in whereelse, Roswell. This show is really great and I hope it last for a long time.
Road Rage (1999)
This will teach those not to cut people off on the road.
Jere Burns plays a psycho driver in this movie who was cut off by Yasmine Bleeth. Personally, I side with Jere Burns in this movie. No one should be able to cut you off and get away with it. (Hint, Hint, my comments reflect what the movie is about). This is a cat and mouse movie, Yasmine Bleeth being the Mouse, and Jere Burns being the Cat, or rather should I say the Psycho Beast Cat who wants revenge against the mouse for cutting him off on the road. If you have a chance to watch this movie, do it. It is a very suspenseful, action filled, and fun movie.
H-E Double Hockey Sticks (1999)
Traditional Disney Movie
This is your typical made for tv Disney movie. It stars Matthew Lawrence and Will Friedle, both from the show "Boy Meets World". Will Friedle is hilarious in his role as an apprentice of the devil. Personally, I think Will Friedle is going to be a huge comedy star in the future. The scenes with him are the funniest in this movie. Matthew Lawrence also does a good job as a hockey player. Don't expect to much from this movie, but if you are a Will Friedle fan, then watch this movie, because he is hilarious in it.
Baywatch (1989)
Only one real actor on this show.....
This newer version of Baywatch, titled "Baywatch Hawaii", seems somewhat better than the original. Again, it looks as if the casting directors hired people who cannot act to portray the life guards, with the exception of Jason Brooks, a great actor who has appeared in Days of Our Lives, and had a recurring role on The Pretender. I am quite surprised to see him on this show, but maybe thats what this show needs, a real actor, not that David Hasselhoff isn't a real actor, other than him i mean. Overall, I say, if you have the time, and the show is on, and you have absolutely nothing better to do, then its ok to watch.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)
Praise for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". Great Show!
I am watching this show as I am typing this and would like to tell you that it is just as amazing as the original Law & Order series. Although it is dark in storyline, there are some very humourous moments. Chris Meloni and Dean Winters from HBO's "OZ" series play Detectives Elliot Stabler and Brian Cassidy. Richard Belzer from the NBC's critically acclaimed and now cancelled "Homocide: Life On The Street" reprises his role as Detective John Munch, and Dan Florek reprises his role as Donald Kragen (the role he played in the original Law & Order series). This show is a terrific and compelling show and I hope it remains on television for a long time to come.
Motel Hell (1980)
My comments are somewhat negative, and deserve to be posted.
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. When I first rented it, I thought it would be good, but when I popped the tape into the VCR and began to watch this so called master-"peice", I could not bear it. I mean, I understand when a movie has no plot, but this movie looked as though it was horribly improvised, and did not even deserve to be made. I do not understand why so many people like this movie, all I can say is that it is a master-"peice", if you know what I mean.
