Entebbe (2018)
The dance ruined it
You get to the penultimate scene, the raid on Entebbe and it is interspersed with modern dance. They have a good cast and all but the director with the studios blessing apparently thought dance at this juncture of the movie was a good idea. It totally blows the tension and ruins it.
Bewitched (2005)
Good casting but that's it
I just saw the movie. I was a little disappointed. The cast is top-notch I thought the actors did a good job with the poor material they were given. Too many slow parts. The part with Uncle Arthur was ?????? When Isabel (Kidman) gets mad and casts a hex on Jack (Ferrell) then takes it back by reversing the last ten minutes of the film. I didn't like that. It was an easy way out for the writers. I think there should have been some tweaking of the script and re shoots before releasing this. I had a feeling it was rushed. When it comes to the romantic/comedy usually Ms. Ephron is right on the money but unfortunately not this time.
Jeeves & Wooster (1990)
Simply Wonderful
My father introduced me to the Jeeves stories and I fell in love with them. Adaptation can be a tricky affair but this series is done superbly. Hugh Laurie portrayed Bertie just as I pictured the character. I always thought of Jeeves as being older but Stephen Fry portrayal of Jeeves dispelled that notion. The other characters are done well especially Bingo and Aunt Agatha. If you've read the stories a couple of them are usually combined into one episode. Having great material to start with and maintaining that standard is tough but this series does it brilliantly. So if you enjoy Wodehouse or enjoy good farce I highly recommend this series.
The Spanish Prisoner (1997)
Highly Recommended
I saw this movie when it first came out and it impressed me very much. I especially enjoyed the dialog. It's refreshing to hear characters speak intelligently and without coarse language. The movie is a first rate mystery. Campbell Scott and Rebecca Pidgeon give excellent performances as does Mr. Martin. I've recommended the movie to friends and all have reported that they enjoyed the film. This film to me proves that a thoughtful script and good acting is all that's needed to make a good film. I tire of the cliche endings that have to have a major surprise that you know is coming anyway. This film has surprises and suspense but it doesn't clunk you on the head with them. It respects the viewers intelligence and let's you savor them.
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Utter disappointment
I actually was looking forward to this movie. I enjoyed the first one, so with John Woo directing this one I was lured into believing that this may be a good movie. Such are the disappointments we deal with in life. This was a bad movie. The action was just okay. The characters were negligible. I didn't care about anything going on in the movie. I don't expect a lot out of an action movie in regards with the characters but give me a little something. If you haven't seen it yet please don't. At least wait for video and even then wait til it comes off the "new releases" shelf.
Bottle Rocket (1996)
Exceptional film
I can't add much more adulation than has previously been given to this film. My only real comment is to watch for the Wilson brother's and Wes Anderson's other films. I'm certain another gem like this film will arrive in the future.
Henry V (1989)
Henry V is a testament to the immortality of the Bard's play
I never tire of watching this film. The play translates to the screen so well. Kenneth Branagh does an excellent job in all areas of this film. The casting is superb. Having seen the play after seeing the movie. I still enjoyed the play but missed the musical score from the film. The Battle of Agincourt was a great tactical battle and worthy of this immortalization.
Pushing Tin (1999)
If you want to see it, save money and wait for the video
A waste of a good cast. Nothing new about the plot. They try to straddle the line between a character piece and comedy but fall short on both counts. Don't waste your money to see it.
