Ronin (1998)

Ronin 2 ??? Help us !

The opening is interesting, then the movie lost its way! The second part is muddled and hardly credible. Of course, the wicked are the irish and the russians (an arab terrorist, that's all we needed!!!), while the goods (the ones who will save the world) are the CIA agents! Hope they won't come out with "RONIN 2 - The revenge"!

All is well done, but not new (do you remember Kieslowski?). The atmosphere works well enough. Everyone of us has thought (once): "If only I had chosen that way.....?"

A straight forward picture of our recent past without any pietism. Many people have recognized themselves and recalled "the way we were" ! A good debut of the director.

The main characters are extraordinarily likeable and great talented actors. A breathtaking natural scenery ! Who would not like to live there for a while ? Sharp, but "flavored" with sugar !

Rock-and-roll as "old-age antidote" ! Ironically and tenderly this movie deals with the efforts and difficulties of a rock band members who haven't spoken to each other for twenty years and have now to seize again the enchantment of music and the missed opportunities. Will they manage not to let this new opportunity slip ? Great rock for a "little", but "heartfelt" movie !

An Italian "the way we were" !

Such a "the way we were" on the Italian way in this film of early 70's. The film shows a journey: a journey of three friends and a woman through dreams and defeats, from post-war period to italian economic miracle (during the sixties).

"We would like to change the world, but the world has changed us" tells one of the protagonists. And that's all....!
