I'm not a huge fan of stereotypical Holiday movies, but since this was a show I decided to give it a chance. I'm almost done with the first season and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. I also wasn't expecting the laugh-track sitcom style, but it I love it! I really hope this comes back every year :)
Merry Happy Whatever is about Mark who likes a a girl who I can't remember the name of. They go to her fathers house for Christmas and it is pretty much a war zone there.
Merry Happy Whatever was a show I didn't plan on watching. I saw it on Netflix and I said "what the heck." So I watched it and it wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect by any means. I don't really know what they will do with the show now because it was centered around Christmas. They might just wait till next year, but then you won't know what happened with the characters in between. That is really the only main problem. I thought the acting was pretty solid. Dennis Quaid is particular. I enjoyed him in this show. He was really the only character that supplied good solid laughs. There were some other characters that were a little funny, but it was mainly Dennis Quaid. I thought the idea was clever. I think it would have been smarter if they had a TV show that could also happen in the summer and did a season of Christmas episodes. It might only be a half a season because there was only eight episodes in this show. There were also each twenty minutes. That is way too short. They really didn't have any room to have those filler episodes that just give people a break. Also, every episode would end on a tone of everybody apologizing to each other. There was one episode were that didn't happen, but then you could just watch the next episode instead of waiting till next week. That is a problem I have with binging shows. Besides those problems, I enjoyed the show.
Overall, I would recommend watching it around Christmas and don't try to watch them all in a row because that would ruin some of the excitement.

Like other reviewers the laugh track was a turn off for me. I mean it was simply horrible. If you stay with it you will find yourself really getting interested in the story and characters. The laugh track never gets better but you learn to get past it as the the story arc grows. The ending wraps up really well and teases a second season. I started off saying there would be no season 2 as it was so terrible with the laugh track but now I am looking forward to it. Hoping there is one.
Give it a chance. The first couple episodes are just kinda blah....but the rest of the season delivers more laughs and holiday cheer. Great cast! I love the concept of a Christmas sitcom. Hope to see another season next Christmas! Totally put me in the holiday spirit and reminds us all of the true gift of Christmas is our family.
A little silly? Maybe. But as I watched, it seems true to family's that manage to stay tightknit, especially when they are gathered for Christmas season. Thanks.
