- The Boulder Free Zone Committee looks to solidify their leadership and bolster the community with a town hall meeting, but Flagg continues to make inroads as he plots to destroy the newly-forming society from within.
- The Committee decides to send three spies to Las Vegas to find out what the Dark Man is up to. Nadine makes contact with Harold and tells him what Flagg wants of him. In flashback, how Nick and Tom made it to Boulder and met Abigail is revealed.—Gislef
- Before heading to the city meeting, Frannie checks Stu's clothing. He asks if she wants to do it for him.
Nick checks his clothes in the mirror.
In his bathroom, Larry looks at himself in the mirror and then dumps his pills down the sink.
Harold dresses, check himself in his mirror, and practices his "Tom Cruise smile".
Glen checks himself in the mirror, then leaves for the meeting.
In the meeting hall, everyone gathers and the five Committee members take Stu nervously calls the meeting to order. One audience member, Impening suggests that he tell them about Drogan and the crucifixion wounds on him.
Earlier
At the Committee meeting, Stu tells the others that he shouldn't be doing the talking. The others say that he has the most charisma, but Stu thinks that Glen should do it. Glen says that the messenger is more important than the message.
Now
The citizens want answers about Drogan and when the electricity will be back on. Larry takes over from Stu, suggests Impening help the people working at the power plant, and has them all stand up for a round of applause. He has the body crew applauded as well, and the teachers. Larry then says that they'll have a power-starting celebration the next Friday.
Larry then hands the meeting back over to Stu about Impening's question about Drogan. Stu takes the mic.
Earlier
Nick wonders what they tell the citizens about Drogan and Flagg. Glen wants to tell them the truth, and Frannie points out that they don't know the full story. She doesn't want to panic everyone, Larry points out that Drogan's eyes turned black, and the others confirm that they saw that as well. Nick asks if Stu cares more about his personal honor then protecting the community.
Stu says that it's not true, and there's room for the truth. Glen suggests that he not say more than he knows.
Now
Stu says that they found Drogan, and he ran into the wrong guy. He says the Community is asking for volunteers for a City Watch, and then says that Abigail asked the ad hoc Committee to get Boulder back on its feet. He tells the citizens that it's time for them to take a vote on a permanent Committee. Harold steps up and moves that they accept the slate of ad hoc Committee members as the permanent Committee. The citizens agree and applaud, and Frannie realizes that Harold got what he wanted.
Later, Harold returns home and finds Nadine waiting for him on his porch. She says that they have a lot to talk about and go inside. Nadine says that Flagg sent her there to find Harold, and believes they can do great things together. Harold asks what Nadine wants from him, and she says that she wants to make his dreams
Nadine points out that they're both virgins, and she's saving herself for Flagg. But until they go to Las Vegas together, they can do anything else. Nadine brings Harold to orgasm, and says that before they leave Boulder, they have to complete their task of killing Abigail and the Committee. She tells Harold that she's Flagg's queen, and Harold can be his prince.
Afterward, Harold apologizes for coming so quickly. Nadine tells him not to be, and to figure out how to kill the six.
Daleville, Virginia: 2 Months Earlier
Harold and Frannie have camped for the night, and Harold watches Frannie sleep. She wakes up from a nightmare, and Harold says that he can't because he has too much to think about. Harold sits next to Frannie and says that all he can think about is hers. When he tries to embrace her, Frannie pushes him away and says that he doesn't love her even if he thinks that. Harold says that it's destiny that they be together, and Frannie tells him that she'll never feel the same way. Glaring, Harold figures that it's about Stu.
Frannie says that it isn't, but Harold clearly isn't convinced and lies back down on his bedroll. Frannie asks if they're good, and Harold snaps at her that they are and tells her to go back to sleep.
Stu and Glen are driving a station wagon to Boulder, following the messages that Harold has spraypainted on the sides of abandoned semis. Stu figures that Harold will take the optimal path and says that he made an impression. Glen figures that Harold and Frannie both made an impression on Stu.
The next day, Harold and Frannie are on their motorcycles and come to a traffic jam of abandoned vehicles. There's a dead driver in the cab of the truck in the front, and the duo dismount, and Harold complains. The "dead" driver opens his eyes when he hears Harold, gets out, and aims a gun at the duo. Harold gives the man a friendly greeting, but the man Garvey tosses Harold and Frannie handcuffs.
Once they've put them on, Garvey takes two similarly-handcuffed women out of the back of the truck. He knees Harold in the groin and then drags Frannie over to the other women, kneeling on the tarmac. He forces Frannie to kneel with them, and then tells Harold that he's going to give him a chance to take him down. Frannie begs Garvey not to hurt Harold, and then easily punches Harold down.
Harold gets up and punches an inviting Garvey in the chin, and hurts his hand. Garvey shrugs off the punch and mock-applauds, then beats Harold. He taunts Harold and then goes over to rape Frannie. Stu and Glen pull up and Garvey sees them and shoots at their station wagon. One of the women grabs a nearby pipe while the other woman --Dayna Jurgens--grabs Garvey. Garvey shoots the other woman in the head, and Frannie kicks Garvey's revolver away when he drops it in the struggle.
Garvey slaps Frannie to the tarmac and goes to get his gun, while Stu takes cover behind the car and returns fire. Dayna recovers and hits Harvey in the head with the pipe, beating his skull in. Stu and Glen run over, while Dayna screams at Garvey's body.
That night, Stu asks Frannie if she wants to join their "little caravan" to Boulder. Harold is skeptical of Stu's claims that they're having the same dreams of Abigail, and Glen suggests that Harold is a man of science like himself. He says that as modern men, they've spent their entire lives not believing in God and magic, because there was no proof. He asks Harold if, as a man of science, he wants to know. Glen invites Harold to come with them and see if it's real.
The group camps for the night, and Frannie wakes up from a nightmare. She goes to the fire and discovers that Stu couldn't sleep, either. Frannie asks Stu if he's having dreams about Flagg, The Dark Man, and Stu says that he is as well as Flagg's wolf. She says that she's pregnant, and Stu explains about how she was pregnant in Glen's painting. They didn't say anything in front of the group because they didn't know if Frannie wanted to keep it a secret, and Frannie says that she hasn't told anyone except her father... and now Stu.
Frannie breaks into tears and says that she's scared, and Stu comes over and holds her. Harold watches them from where he's sleeping.
Now
The next day, Stu hands out Ski Patrol worker uniforms to Harold, Weizak, and the other men who have volunteered for the Watch. Stu insists that they're not policemen and have no laws to enforce, and they're maintaining public safety. Larry goes over the duty schedule for all of them, and Stu thanks them for their service.
As they gear up, Weizak goes to get some DVDs. Once he's alone, Harold glares at Stu for a moment and then turns away, gasping. He finds a Ski Patrol pamphlet in the jacket pocket, looks at it and the map it has of avalanche areas in the area and the explosives the rangers use to set off controlled avalanches, and gets an idea.
Weizak comes back with a DVD of 'Skyscraper', and asks Harold if he thinks the Rock survived Captain Trips. Harold suggests that he might but there's no way to know for sure, and anything's possible.
The Committee meets again, and Glen suggests they send spies to Las Vegas to find out more about Flagg. Stu points out that it'll be dangerous, and Glen suggests that they need three and they can't go themselves because it'd be noticed if they disappeared. Glen notes that Abigail won't give them permission to spend the spies. Nick wonders why they're there if they're not willing to lead.
Frannie asks Dayna to go, and she agrees despite the risks. Larry asks Judge Harris, and she's honored to agree. Glen finally suggests that they consider Tom as their third spy, and Frannie agrees because Tom is the last person Flagg would suspect. Nick says that Tom will surprise them.
Colorado: 3 Months Earlier
At a bus depot, Nick is making notes of what he's dreamed about Abigail while Tom is nearby, going through the luggage. A woman, Julie Lawry, finds Nick alone sleeping, and nudges him with the barrel of a rifle she's carrying. Julie finally realizes that Nick is deaf and starts having sex with him, but Tom wanders over and interrupts them.
Angry, Julie, aims her rifle at Tom. Nick stops her, and Tom explains that Nick is dumb as well as deaf. Nick writes out a note for Julie, who reads it and she mocks Tom at first. She finally gives Tom Nick's real name, and she suggests Nick ditch the "tard". Nick reads her lips and realizes what she's saying, and leaves with Tom. Julie apologizes, begging them not to leave her. Tom hesitates, but Nick pulls him on.
Julie grabs her rifle and prepares to shoot. Tom sees her and shoves Nick to cover, then they run outside through the loading dock and duck around a corner. Julie gives up following them and goes back inside, and Nick sees a poster for Hemingford Home, a retirement center.
Abigail is the only one left alive at Hemingford, running out of pills and water. Nick and Tom arrive and find Abigail, who greets them by name.
Now
The Committee reviews their instructions with Tom, telling him to come one more person who finds him but run if there are more. And that he's to come back when the moon is full.
Earlier
The Committee discuss whether to send Tom. Frannie hesitates but figures they have to do it together, so she votes "yes".
Now
Ray tells the people outside of Abigail's house that she isn't taking any more visitors for the day. Inside, Abigail tells Nick that she knows it's frustrating waiting for God to express His will, which is why she's insisting that they take no action.
Frannie writes a letter to her unborn child,
Larry says goodbye to Harris, who drives to Las Vegas.
Later, Larry and Nick see Tom off. Tom wishes Nick could come with him, and Nick tells him that they'll be watching the moon together. They exchange goodbyes and Tom rides his bike to Las Vegas.
Frannie writes that she hopes her child will forgive them for what the Committee has done.
That night, Harold and Nadine go to the ranger' station to get the explosives. They break into the storage container where they're kept.
In Boulder, they bring on the power in the city and at the rangers' station. Larry plays 'America the Beautiful' for the crowd.
Weizak goes up to the station and sees Nadine. Harold comes out and Weizak recognizes him, and Nadine shoots Weizak dead as Harold looks on in shock and then goes to his dying friend.
