Kelly Clarkson enlisted her daughter River Rose for a special familial collaboration, “You Don’t Make Me Cry,” from the new deluxe edition of Clarkson’s latest album, Chemistry, out today, Sept. 22.
River opens the track with a heavily auto-tuned vocal run, giving the song an early-2010s pop vibe that continues with snappy, atmospheric production laced with piano. Like many of the songs on Chemistry, “You Don’t Make Me Cry” finds Clarkson holding nothing back, as she sings on the chorus, “And you don’t make me cry...

Kjzz’s Kathy Ritchie (above) likes to talk about things that make most people uncomfortable. And her new podcast is no exception.
Period, The End (But Not Really) is an educational series about menopause, a chapter of life that can be gut wrenching, exhausting and just plain confusing.
Anyone with ovaries will go through menopause and most will have symptoms, like hot flashes, anxiety and sleepless nights. Over six episodes, Kathy talks to menopause experts who help to demystify this time of life because information is power — for you, your partner, your children, your friends and colleagues. And because menopause can be an incredibly isolating time for women, we need to be connecting. So, as Kathy says, let’s get a little uncomfortable.
Kathy is a senior field correspondent at Kjzz, an NPR member station in Phoenix, Arizona. Much of Kathy’s 20-year reporting career has been in the aging space,...

The End We Start From, the debut feature from acclaimed television director Mahalia Belo, offers all the standard elements of a drama centered on a near-apocalyptic event. Early in the film, unrelenting rain pounds London, the power goes out, and water eventually trickles under the door of an unnamed pregnant woman played by Jodie Comer. She is alone in the house, tending to herself while her husband is out-of-town. Soon that trickle blasts the front door off its hinges, and before we know it she is in labor at the hospital. These scenes in the outside world are appropriately chaotic––and feel like sequences audiences have seen many, many times before.
Such feeling of overfamiliarity creeps up with regularity during The End We Start From. There are some moments that call to mind The Road, others that have a 28 Days Later feel (minus zombies), and a few that are...

Diamond wrote The Monkees’ “I’m a Believer.” During a 2023 interview with NPR, Diamond said this came about because of his tune “Cherry, Cherry.” “And because of that hit, the people who were producing The Monkees called and said, we like ‘Cherry, Cherry,'” he said. “‘Do you have any other songs?'” He then gave them “I’m a Believer.

The Beatles worked at a non-stop pace during their career. They cranked out albums between tours in their early days. Then they churned out lush, layered, and complex albums when they focused their efforts in the studio. Leaving the road impacted their music for the better. They rarely let any errors slip onto their records, but The Beatles left two mistakes on the Abbey Road song “Her Majesty.”

Most Fab Four fans wouldn’t mention “Her Majesty” among Abbey Road’s best songs. Perhaps the only notable things about it are that it’s one of the first “hidden” tracks to appear on a rock album and that it’s The Beatles’ shortest song.

Paul McCartney said he avoided solos after his first performance with John Lennon, and Ringo Starr avoided them for his entire time with The Beatles. Lengthy instrumental solos aren’t necessarily a fundamental part of The Beatles’ sound, perhaps because half the members didn’t like them. The reasons they wanted to avoid solos were different, though.

When McCartney joined Lennon’s band, the Quarry Men, he had a chance to play a guitar solo during his first-ever performance with the band. He nailed the part during rehearsals but couldn’t get through it onstage.
“For my first gig, I was given a guitar solo on ‘Guitar Boogie,'” McCartney said, per The Beatles Anthology. “I could play it easily in rehearsal, so they elected that I should do it as my solo.

Writer/Director Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise presented several buzzworthy Evil Dead moments and set pieces, including the title card that arrives just as a Deadite rises from the lake. All of it, of course, by meticulous design as evidenced by the film’s stunning concept art.
Cronin took to Twitter today to share some of the concept art for the new entry in the Evil Dead franchise.
The filmmaker said, “Nothing on screen in #EvilDeadRise happened by accident. It took meticulous planning with an incredible group of talented people. And concept art was the entry point into our world. Here’s a little taste.”

The Beatles first gained popularity with their short and sweet pop songs. The longest songs of their career displayed their long-form creativity. So did their short tunes. Seven of the shortest Beatles songs clocked in at less than 90 seconds. Let’s look at them from worst to best.
Note: We include only songs that appeared on their studio albums from 1963 to 1970, and we used a firm cut-off. “Golden Slumbers” at 1:31 is too long to include on our list.

Annoyingly terrible on every level. “Wild Honey Pie” contained half-baked musical ideas (a seemingly out-of-tune guitar with a basic descending chord structure) and overly repetitive lyrics.

Showtime has pulled several series from its streaming platform, becoming the latest banner to parse down its digital library in the past year. Sources close to the situation share that most removed titles will have the opportunity to sell to third-parties.
Among the removals are “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In,” both of which were not renewed for a second season, as announced by Showtime just earlier Monday afternoon. Both seasons of the Jim Carrey-starring “Kidding” are also no longer available to watch on the platform, as well as the single-season series “American Rust” and “On Becoming a God in Central Florida.”
The first season of “Super Pumped” has also been removed. The business anthology series had been renewed in Feb. 2022, with plans for a second season to focus on the history of Facebook. However, few updates have emerged on the project in the months since.

The Beatles have plenty of hidden gems that were never released to the public. Some of the unreleased recordings include fragments of other songs that were edited out. While writing “The End,” John Lennon and Paul McCartney combined two Beatles songs to create a song that ended the band on a high note.

While “The End” isn’t the final song on Abbey Road, it fittingly was the final song recorded collectively by the four members of The Beatles. It was written by Paul McCartney but is credited to the Lennon-McCartney duo. Initially, the song was meant to end Abbey Road, but the final song was later changed to “Her Majesty.”

Paul McCartney used his extensive knowledge of literature, specifically William Shakespeare, to help him write the last lyric of The Beatles‘ “The End.” He wanted the final lyrics of the song to be poetic. Something memorable had to sign The Beatles off just as Shakespeare’s lines closed out his epic plays.

On his new show The End Is Nye, beloved TV scientist and America’s father figure Bill Nye points to the storms of The Tempest, but even Shakespeare caught the catastrophe bug earlier than that. Twelfth Night opens with a shipwreck. In her menacing extreme weather speech in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Titania speaks of tremendous floods, rotting crops, and disappearing seasons. Now, we have 24-hour news channels that thrive on disaster porn.
Nye appeals to our attraction to calamity, even as he balks at it. “Think about it, people,” he declares on his debut Peacock series about the varied forms – from solar flares to careening comets – Armageddon might take. His eyes are wide, and his voice wobbles with opprobrium. “We’re like some kind of weird death cult.”
Honestly, it kind of hurts when “Bill Nye the Science Guy” reprimands you. What happened to the warm,...

In order to prepare for "The Invitation," in theaters now, director Jessica M. Thompson watched "every single vampire film ever made." The co-writer and director behind the horror film, which was originally titled "The Bride," uses elements from past horror lore to tell a more modern vampire tale. The story follows Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) as she discovers a long lost family of filthy rich bloodsuckers. In other words, it's "Downton Stabby," an online joke Thompson appreciated.
Prior to "The Invitation," Thompson directed "The Light of the Moon" and six episodes of "The End," plus worked on "The Handmaiden's Tale" as an apprentice director. The director's latest film is a refreshingly handcrafted piece of studio horror with minimal CG. As Thompson told us, the more grounded and real, the scarier the effect. In our interview with Thompson, we talked about the dozens of vampire and horror Easter eggs throughout, the practicalities of vampire fangs,...

Something’s haunting Corey Taylor in the new music video for Slipknot’s recent song, “Yen,” from their upcoming LP, The End, So Far.

"The Office" ended nearly a decade ago, but Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly still remain one of the most-loved couples in modern sitcom history. John Krasinski's Jim and Jenna Fischer's Pam are so synonymous with TV comedy love that when other people reference them, it's almost always on a first-name basis, no show title needed. We all know Jim and Pam.
Before they were a beloved endgame ship, though, the pair were just a couple of lovebirds trying to figure it out. When they finally did in the season 5 premiere, it was in a simple, beautiful moment. When Pam spends months away from Scranton at a graphic design class, Jim decides to make a spontaneous trip to see her. They meet at a rest stop along the freeway in the middle of a rainstorm, where with little preamble, Jim gets on one knee to ask her to marry him.

Some go-to advice for scriptwriting is to pitch your work as "x meets y"; two things with proven success mashed together. Vince Gilligan, the creator of "Breaking Bad," famously pitched the series as "Mr. Chips becomes Scarface." The boldness of that pitch won over then Sony Pictures Television executives Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. Once Gilligan had them on his side to produce the series, he needed to find a network that would air it. This proved a challenge, with most of the prestige networks saying no before AMC finally said yes.
The struggle to find a home for "Breaking Bad" is shocking considering how successful the show became. However, Gilligan's recounting of his efforts is a pretty great story itself. Here's every network he pitched "Breaking Bad" to, and why they all said no.

Disney has been anointed the new streaming king after reporting it now counts 221.1 million total subscriptions between Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. That’s about 400,000 greater than Netflix’s Q2 tally of 220.67 million global paid members.
But is The Walt Disney Company truly the new leader in the ongoing streaming wars? An investigation.
The Case for Disney as New Streaming King Is Pretty Straightforward
As a company, Disney is now home to more streaming subscriptions than Netflix.
Disney+ alone added 14.4 million subscribers in the June quarter, when Netflix lost 970,000 global paid subscribers. (April to June is Netflix’s Q2 but Disney’s fiscal Q3.) Disney+ now has 44.5 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada and another 49.2 million internationally (excluding Disney+ Hotstar).
The Hotstar brand of Disney+ adds another 58.4 million subscriptions, bringing the grand total of Disney+ subs to 152.1 million — a 31 percent improvement from the same quarter last year.

Tel Aviv-based Ananey Studios, part of Paramount Global, has signed a deal with Indian content producer Abundantia Entertainment to develop an Indian remake of the hit Israeli live-action teen drama, “The Hood” (“Schuna”).
The original series, created by Giora Chamizer (Netflix’s “Greenhouse Academy”), is set in The Hood, a dingy cluster of low-income housing, where blue-collar families live, located in the middle of one of the richest districts. Kids in The Hood regularly prank the rich community’s snobbish teens, while the mayor constantly tries to get rid of the The Hood altogether. “The Hood” has had three hit seasons (150 x 22′) on Nickelodeon in Israel and was also sold to Portugal’s free-to-air channel RTP2.
“The Hood” adaptation will be produced under Abundantia’s young-adult focused label Filters, which joins Psych that specializes in horror and paranormal. Also being produced under the Filter label are the Indian adaptation of...

When it drops on streaming later this fall, Andor is poised to finally deliver the backstory for one of the best Star Wars characters of the Disney era. The series, which reunites Rogue One star Diego Luna with producer and director Tony Gilroy, explores who Cassian Andor was before he became the revolutionary we met in the first Star Wars standalone film in 2016. How did he go from a refugee insurgent to becoming the Rebellion’s foremost secret agent and assassin?
The new Andor trailer begins to answer these questions, as we watch a younger, angrier Cassian infiltrating the Empire and causing havoc from within, while Mon Mothma and Stellan Skarsgard’s new Star Wars character work in secret from Coruscant. While both parties are working separately at first, Gilroy has teased that they’ll eventually converge in their fight against the Empire.

Two of Black Sabbath’s Iron Men — Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Tony Iommi — have reunited for “Degradation Rules.” The track features Iommi’s signature doomy riffing, while the Prince of Darkness sings about “asphyxiation, masturbation, degradation rules” and even plays a little harmonica. The track will appear on the singer’s upcoming album, Patient Number 9, due Sept. 9.
Iommi spoke about his collaboration with Osbourne in a Rolling Stone interview earlier this year. “I wrote the whole track and played on it and played the solo on it,” the guitarist said.

What is the legacy of "Lost"? In 2022, that question is difficult to answer. When it aired, "Lost" was largely responsible for establishing the modern "event television" phenomenon that we see so often today, as fans ecstatically tuned in each week to see where the epic science fiction adventure series would go next. However, the ending has continued to spark controversy among fans and critics alike. In the wake of the divisive series finale of "Game of Thrones," it was hard not to be reminded of the similar discourse surrounding the final episode of "Lost," "The End."

The Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album has become an important award in recent years. Lately it has been given to albums that thoroughly influenced the musical landscape, sometimes even more than the Album of the Year winner. So what does it take to win the Grammys’ Best Pop Vocal Album prize?
When people think of pop music, they naturally think of commercial appeal, and this is true to a certain extent for the Pop Vocal Album winners. All but one of the 29 albums that have won this category went top-10 on the Billboard 200. Out of these 28, 24 peaked somewhere in the top five, and 21 peaked in the top three. Half of the winners were number-one albums. Plus, the winning artists are typically some of the biggest stars of their winning years.
