Every. Season. Counts.
The Bear's renewal for simultaneously filmed third and fourth seasons was sweet dad-rock music to the ears of critics and audiences alike.
After sweeping the Emmys and benefiting from word-of-mouth buzz around its Christmas-themed episode "Fishes," the show was practically guaranteed renewal to give us at least one more season with the volatile and tight-knit Berzattos.
An Interesting Experiment
Capitalizing on the moment by filming back-to-back seasons was a smart move for the series and might become a trend for other shows.
Logistically it makes sense to take advantage of utilizing a show's cast and crew for two seasons in one go, instead of having to align all of those schedules again in another eighteen months or so.
In the current landscape of surprise cancellations, it also makes creative sense for a show to film a multi-season arc without the worry of ending on a cliffhanger.

Six months later he’s unable to get over her death and his son Nick blames him for his mother’s death and won’t return his calls.
The final straw however comes when the agency calls him in for questioning, trying to frame her as a double agent and freezing him out. Breaking Infinity is the kind of film I both love and dread seeing on my review schedule. I love it because indie science fiction is frequently full of interesting ideas and concepts that bigger-budget films don’t deal with. I hate it because, often due to their indie budgets, they can’t do those ideas justice. This film had created a bit of a buzz on its festival run, but could it live up to the hype?
Liam lies in a hospital bed as an old man shouts at him to wake up. He does, briefly appearing in a burning building before finding himself back in the hospital where he passes out only to wake up as a different, less injured, version of himself in a different version of the hospital.

Banijay has taken a majority stake in Israel’s MoviePlus Productions, producers of HBO and Keshet International’s “Our Boys” and the Oscar-nominated film “Footnote,” further expanding the company’s operations in Israel.
The 51 stake will help to bolster Banijay’s drama capabilities in the region. MoviePlus Productions specializes in drama, documentaries and feature-length films. Established by David Mandil, the company’s credits also include “Miguel” for Canal+, and “Deus” and “Jerusalem Brew” for Yes Studios.
The company has also produced acclaimed Israeli director Joseph Cedar’s “Footnote,” “Beaufort” and “Norman”; and Natalie Portman’s directorial debut “A Tale of Love and Darkness.”

Even the most experienced crew that’s assigned to save the universe aren’t always able to find a way to overcome their conflicts and work together to accomplish their mission. That’s certainly the case for the crew of the Achilles, the large scientific space vessel featured in the upcoming apocalyptic sci-fi film, ‘Deus.’ The vessel’s mission […]

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Maggie,” the Season 1 finale of “The Afterparty,” which debuted on Apple TV Plus on March 4.
The stars of “The Afterparty” have been lying to their families.
That’s because the comedic whodunnit, which hails from director-showrunner Chris Miller and executive producer Phil Lord, established a strict rule of secrecy from Day 1. But after Friday’s finale revealed the killer to be Ben Schwartz’s Yasper, the cast can finally come clean to their loved ones, and hundreds of Reddit detectives can hang up their investigative hats.
“I’ve been semi-playing werewolf with everybody,” Schwartz tells Variety. “I still haven’t told my parents. My dad thinks it’s Maggie [Everly Carganilla], the little girl. My mom thinks it’s Walt [Jamie Demetriou]. My agents and managers don’t know because Chris told me not to tell anyone, and I’m very good at keeping secrets.

Darkland Distribution, an imprint of U.K.’s Parkland, has picked up British sci-fi thriller “Deus.”
As well as acquiring the U.K. and North American distribution rights, Darkland will represent worldwide international sales rights to the film, described as a “provocative and thought-provoking” sci-fi thriller.
“Deus” is written and directed by British Independent Film Award winner Steve Stone, who also wrote the feature “Entity” starring Dervla Kirwan and Charlotte Riley.
“Deus” stars Claudia Black (“Farscape”) and David O’Hara (“Cowboys and Aliens”) as astronauts who are sent to investigate when a mysterious dark sphere is discovered orbiting Mars. Waking from an 8-month hibernation aboard their vessel, the Achilles, they discover the sphere is actually a blinding light from which one word is repeatedly transmitted in over four thousand languages: God.
“The stunned and frightened crew face a series of bewildering questions,” reads the synopsis. “Will their encounter with ‘God’ drag...

Memento International (“Call Me By Your Name”) has boarded “Legend of Destruction,” a thought-provoking animated feature by Israeli filmmaker Gidi Dar (“Ushpizin”), produced by Lama Films.
The film’s unique visual style is being created from 1,500 original paintings which are edited and animated together. The paintings and art direction are being handled by David Polonsky and Michael Faust, the artists behind the Oscar-nominated “Waltz With Bashir.”
Dar co-wrote the script with Shuli Rand, a veteran Israeli actor with whom he also collaborated on “Ushpizin” which competed at Tribeca in 2004. On top of having co-written “Legend of Destruction,” Rand is also leading the voice cast.
Set in Jerusalem during the first Jewish–Roman War, “Legend of Destruction” follows an oppressive Roman governor who is driven out of the city by the people. Due to rampant social inequalities, corruption and injustice, secret groups of religious fanatics appear and seek to rebel in the name of God.

This post contains full spoilers for all eight episodes of Devs.
When Alex Garland’s sci-fi thriller Devs premiered last month (as the start of the new FX on Hulu imprint), I was dazzled by the presentation of the story, but just as frequently puzzled about what exactly was happening, and why.
The miniseries’ finale premiered today. In it, fugitive coder Lily (Sonoya Mizuno) invades the Devs building to confront sinister tech mogul Forest (Nick Offerman) about what goes on there and why her boyfriend was murdered to protect the project’s secrets.

This article contains major Devs spoilers.
Tech company CEOs always think they’re messiahs. At least that’s what poor Jamie (Jin Ha) suspected on Alex Garland’s Devs, and it’s what Garland believes too. After all, Devs is a companion piece for its creator and his cinematic directorial debut, Ex Machina, and in both fictions, a tech CEO attempts to rebuild the world in his own image. Now after the Devs series finale, that link has become explicit.
The duality was spelled out when protagonist Lily (Sonoya Mizuno) and tech CEO Forest (Nick Offerman) have their heart-to-heart. Confident and assured in his knowledge of the universe running on predetermined rails, Forest is smugly magnanimous underneath his beard and Jesus Christ styled hair. He lays out for Lily that the world turns on a deterministic model of cause and effect, and no matter what she thinks about the illusion of free will,...

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 10
Last week, Mr. Robot gave us its best episode of the season – an intense and stressful hour that saw Elliot and Darlene finally triumph over Whiterose and the villainous Deus Group. That the series chooses to follow up that installment with a meandering character piece in which Elliot only appears for five minutes is a perfect example of both the best and worst of Mr. Robot season 4 all at once.
As an individual episode, “Gone” is pretty solid. It’s focused almost exclusively on the series’ women, and provides some much-needed context to the emotional journeys both Dom and Darlene have been on this season. It’s the first episode that’s...
