The 94-year-old Squibb last worked with the Disney-owned studio for 2020’s “Soul” and 2019’s “Toy Story 4,” and has lent her voice to other animated projects including “Solar Opposites,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and “The Fungies.”
Squibb’s character details are unknown, but she joins an A-list voice cast in the sequel, which hits theaters June 14. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return as Joy, Sadness and Anger, respectively, while Tony Hale and Liza Lapira take over for Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust after reported salary disputes.

Dear fans, please stop yelling “Randall!” at Sterling K. Brown whenever you see him walking down the street. That’s a reference, of course, to the actor’s Emmy-winning role as Randall Pearson on the hit NBC drama “This Is Us,” which ran for six seasons.

Listen, I never want people to not know that I played the character. But if and when I reach the point where people stop yelling ‘Randall!’ it would be Ok. Because it’s not my name. It’s Sterling. And to be seen for a body, instead of a character, feels way better.”

“Rick and Morty.” “Futurama.” “South Park.” ”Bob’s Burgers.” “Archer.” “The Simpsons.” “Family Guy.” “American Dad!”
What do these shows have in common? For one thing, they’re the Top 8 most popular adult animated comedies, according to a Ranker list that’s been voted on by 50,000 TV fans. But the shows also all premiered at least 10 years ago — and as of the writing of this article, they’re all still on the air. (“Archer” will officially conclude with a special finale event in December.)
The story of adult animated comedy arguably begins with the runaway success of “The Simpsons,” which premiered back in 1989. Since then, each successive decade has brought with it a crop of new and seemingly inexhaustible cartoon series, from “The Simpsons” and “South Park” in the 1990s, to “Family Guy” and “Futurama” in the 2000s, to “Bob’s Burgers” and “Rick and Morty” in the 2010s. The new voice actors for the Adult Swim animated series Rick And Morty have been revealed for season seven.
For the titular characters, Rick Sanchez will be voiced by Ian Cardoni, while Harry Belden will voice Morty. They were revealed as the new voice actors during the credits of the season seven premiere on October 15.
Both characters were originally voiced by Justin Roiland, who was dropped by Adult Swim in January following charges of one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit by a woman Roiland was dating.
The charges against Roiland were dropped two months later after prosecutors said there wasn’t enough evidence to prove the case.
Roiland was also axed by Hulu on the series Solar Opposites. He has since been accused of nine accounts of sexual misconduct last month in a report by NBC News.

Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

Season 7 of “Rick and Morty” is the first volume of the Adult Swim animated sitcom, a “Back to the Future” riff tracking the adventures of a mad scientist and his bumbling grandson, not to star co-creator Justin Roiland as the voice of both title characters. The network fired Roiland in January after the actor was charged with domestic violence; though the charges have since been dropped, an NBC News report last month alleged a pattern of inappropriate sexual conduct. In between, the roles of Rick and Morty were recast with soundalikes Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, a monthslong saga that culminated with the debut of a Roiland-free show on Sunday.
All this behind-the-scenes upheaval might suggest “Rick and Morty” would return a markedly different show. But “How Poopy Got His Poop Back” is almost pointedly normal, collecting various fixtures of the “Rick and Morty” universe — not just Rick and Morty themselves,...

“Rick and Morty” finally revealed the new voices of the titular characters in Sunday’s Season 7 premiere episode following star and co-creator Justin Roiland’s ousting over sexual misconduct allegations.
Shrouded in mystery until now, the credits announced that Ian Cardoni is the new voice of Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden is the voice of Rick’s grandson Morty.
In contrast to Dan Stevens taking over Roiland’s role on the Hulu animated series “Solar Opposites,” the “Rick and Morty” team opted to cast a wide net to find soundalikes for the beloved characters, which is why they went with these two largely unknown actors.

“Rick and Morty” has finally revealed the voice actors who are replacing star Justin Roiland.

When the first promo for "Rick and Morty" season 7 featured only Summer and Beth, some fans found it to be a little concerning. To a casual viewer who hadn't been following the behind-the-scenes news, it might've seemed like an innocent choice to give us a "Rick and Morty" promo that didn't include Rick or Morty. But for those who were already aware that co-creator and prominent voice actor Justin Roiland was removed from the show due to a whole bunch of troubling allegations, this was a cause for concern: Why was the show playing it so coy? Did they lack confidence in the new voice actors, whoever they were? Did they know we'd hate them at first? Did they want to postpone the backlash for as long as possible?
But after just a few minutes of the first episode, it's clear these worries were unfounded. The season premiere, with its...

In March of 2014, I met Dan Harmon at Burbank’s venerable Smoke House for a long interview. We were there to talk about his unexpected return to Community, the NBC comedy he created and ran for three seasons, before being forced out for a year. But this was only a few months into the run of Harmon’s other TV project, the Adult Swim sci-fi comedy Rick and Morty, which Harmon created with Justin Roiland, who also provided the voices of the title characters. (“Rixty Minutes,” one of my favorite episodes,...

It was originally announced back in 2021 that HBO Max was developing a “Garbage Pail Kids” animated series, with Danny McBride and David Gordon Green (Halloween, The Exorcist: Believer) co-creating and writing the series for Rough House Pictures.
What’s the latest on that project? Speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gordon Green reveals in a new chat that the planned “Garbage Pail Kids” animated series is still alive.
“Right now, McBride and I are trying to do an animated series on the Garbage Pail Kids,” Gordon Green tells the show. “So we’re working on that and we’ve got some pretty cool ways we can make a naughty animated show, we’ll see if they’ll have us on that one.”
Last we heard, Josh Bycel (“Solar Opposites”) is also writing and co-creating alongside the duo.

Over the course of four seasons, “Star Trek” animated series “Lower Decks” has seen its crew of lowly officers take on the worst jobs in all of Starfleet, the type of menial work that only those at the very bottom of the chain of command are asked to do. But in the show’s upcoming episode, the core four characters get an assignment that promises much nicer pleasures: a glorified bar crawl.
“Parth Ferengi’s Heart Place,” the sixth episode of “Lower Decks” ongoing fourth season, sees junior lieutenant’s Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Boimler (Jack Quaid), Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), and Tendi (Noël Wells) assigned to Starfleet’s “Travel Guide Duty.” In a clip exclusively shared with IndieWire from the episode, directed by Brandon Williams with a script by Cullen Crawford, their superior first officer Jack Ransom (voiced by Jerry O’Connell) explains that the job, one of Starfleet’s most coveted,...

IATSE and The Animation Guild (IATSE Local 839) announced on Wednesday that the National Labor Relations Board issued a direction of election that would allow production workers of Walt Disney Animation Studios to vote on whether to unionize under IATSE.
According to the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, the decision means that full time and project-based production coordinators, production supervisors, and production managers are eligible to unionize through the election process. The workers are seeking benefits such as improved pay and portable health care that will travel with them from job to job.
Last March, Tag first revealed that the union was attempting to form a bargaining unit composed of around 78 such workers at the Encanto and Wish studio. At the time, it said Disney had denied its request to voluntarily recognize the group of workers and was attempting to exclude production supervisors and production managers from the group that...

According to Dan Harmon, the last time he spoke to his “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland was over text in 2019. The executive producer described the conversation as “unprecedentedly confrontational” in a profile with The Hollywood Reporter.
Additionally, Harmon has spoken out about the allegations against his co-creator for the very first time. “I would feel so safe and comfortable making this about me, but that trick is worthless here and dangerous to others,” Harmon said. “It’s other people’s safety and comfort that got damaged while I obsessed over a cartoon’s quality. Trust has now been violated between countless people and a show designed to please them. I’m frustrated, ashamed and heartbroken that a lot of hard work, joy and passion can be leveraged to exploit and harm strangers.”
The profile documents the rift between the two co-creators that happened around Season 2 of the sci-fi comedy.

“Rick and Morty” has dropped a Season 7 trailer that features the new voices for the duo originated by creator Justin Roiland.
“Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It’s Season 7, and the possibilities are endless: what’s up with Jerry? Evil Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let’s find out! There’s probably less piss than last season. ‘Rick and Morty,’ 100 years! Or at least until season 10!” the official season description states.
Roiland, who has voiced both titular characters since the long-running animated series premiered back in 2013, was charged with felony domestic violence related to an incident that first surfaced in a January 2020 criminal complaint.
Following the news, Adult Swim cut ties with Roiland but noted that the show would continue without his involvement. In February, an individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap...

Adult Swim has revealed the season seven trailer for Rick and Morty and, along with it, the show’s new voice talent for its titular main characters.
Below is the first trailer for the new season, which features voice actors replacing co-creator Justin Roiland, who was dismissed from show due to misconduct allegations.
In an unusual move, the network is keeping the names of the new voice talents confidential until the show’s season premiere (yes, there are two — one actor for Rick and another for Morty).
“We want the show to speak for itself,” explained an Adult Swim insider. “We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans.”
The Emmy-winning sci-fi comedy is coming back Sunday, Oct. 15, at 11 p.m. Like previous recent seasons, the new season will include 10 episodes.

Fox executives have been waiting a long time to invite their audience to step in Krapopolis, and are betting they’ll want to keep doing it for a long time. I’m just not sure they’re right.

Suits extended one streak on the streaming TV charts for Aug. 14-20, but another one came to a close.
The legal drama, which streams on Netflix and Peacock, was the top title in Nielsen’s weekly rankings for the ninth consecutive week. It more than doubled the viewing time total of its the second-place show, Netflix’s Painkiller.
The total viewing time for Suits, however, dipped below 3 billion minutes for the first time since the week of June 19-25 — to a still very strong 2.84 billion minutes. The series had set a Nielsen record for the most consecutive weeks over 3 billion minutes of viewing at seven; only two other shows (Outer Banks and The Night Agent) have hit that mark in 2023, and for only one week each.
Painkiller led the original series top 10 with 1.12 billion minutes of watch time, while the prior week’s leader, The Lincoln Lawyer, slipped to second place with 768 million minutes.

Netflix’s Painkiller ticked up a spot this week to top Nielsen’s latest U.S. ranking of streaming originals.
For the week of Aug. 14, Painkiller racked up 1.1 billion minutes viewed across its six episodes, knocking The Lincoln Lawyer down to second (with 768 million minutes viewed/20 episodes). Netflix’s Depp vs. Heard hit the chart at No. 3 with 704 million minutes/three episodes, followed by Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building (590 million minutes/23 available episodes) and Prime Video’s really, really resilient The Summer I Turned Pretty (403 million minutes/15 episodes).

Justin Roiland, co-creator of the acclaimed animated series “Rick and Morty,” is facing new allegations of sexual misconduct, including that he sexually assaulted a woman, and engaged in inappropriate communication with minors.
In an article, published Wednesday by NBC and citing several unnamed women, Roiland was also accused of pressuring dates to have sex, taking advantage of his fame to pursue younger fans, and plying dates with alcohol, among other things.
The accusations are unrelated to the accusations of domestic violence against Roiland, which were dismissed by a judge in March.
Roiland’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap. However, Brettler told NBC that the accusations are “false and defamatory.”
NBC says it interviewed 11 women and nonbinary people, and examined “thousands” of messages said to have been sent between 2013 and 2023. Among the most serious accusation, a woman said Roiland forced her to...

“Rick and Morty” will debut new episodes weekly from its Oct. 15 premiere on, TheWrap can confirm. At the moment, no off-weeks or hiatuses are planned for this new season.
The Adult Swim sci-fi comedy has always had a bit of a hectic release schedule. In its third season, the series famously dropped “The Rickshank Rickdemption” on April Fool’s Day after a nearly two-year delay between Seasons 2 and 3. The rest of the season didn’t premiere until July of that year. Then in Season 4, the series had a several month gap between its first five episodes and its final five episodes. Even Season 5 had a minibreak. Between Episodes 8 and 9 there was roughly a monthlong break.

“Rick and Morty” will return on Oct. 15 for a 10-episode Season 7. New episodes of the Adult Swim original will premiere at 11 p.m. Et/Pt.

In 2022 alone, the sci-fi animated comedy reached over 19 million viewers on linear broadcast and remains one of Max’s top series. It’s spawned video games, interactive fan experiences, customized ads and — for a short time — a notorious McDonald’s sauce revival. Hulu has been making targeted investments to build out its animation catalog and recently created a dedicated “Animayhem” hub on its service for its adult animation and anime content. Fox’s “Animation Domination” predates the streaming wars and Hulu is continuing that tradition by leaning into the strength of its animation programming, including many of the long-running shows that formed the cornerstone of Fox’s programming block.
In a sign of how far Hulu has come in its push to dominate the adult animation landscape, eight of the 10 most in-demand adult animation series in the past year were available to stream on Hulu. Six of these were available exclusively on the service. However, the most in-demand adult animated comedy in the U.S. in the past year, “South Park,” was only available to stream on Max.

Hulu‘s Solar Opposites is set to return for Season 4 on August 14, and in TV Insider’s exclusive clip, we see Korvo and Terry (Thomas Middleditch) in a troubling situation as the computer system of their ship Aisha (Tiffany Haddish) is set to shut down unexpectedly. The clip begins with Korvo proudly watching Terry “take the initiative” as he updates Aisha. However, things worsened when Aisha announced the update will take 21 days and 14 hours to complete. Korvo, in shock, says they can’t survive that long without her: “She scrubs the air, monitors all the neutrino levels!” In a very casual tone, Aisha tells them the update will commence in “uhhh, pshh, I dunno, like 40 seconds? That’s good enough.” As Korvo tries to bypass this, he directs Terry towards the array of rays, specifically, one that’ll help buy them some time. However, that’s when things take a turn,...

As many recent storylines of movies and TV shows explore the concept of the “multiverse”, a new exclusive clip from the Hulu original sci-fi comedy, Solar Opposites, explores what is called “the stockiverse.” The stockiverse is revealed to be a universe in which people get placed into a universe of stock photos. Korvo accidentally traps Jesse in the stockiverse and must enter the posed-photo world to retrieve her.
The official synopsis for the Hulu original reads,
A team of four aliens escape their exploding home world only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super...

Losing a lead actor is a nightmare scenario for any series, especially when the circumstances are as fraught and the voice work is as recognizable as Justin Roiland’s. Season four of Solar Opposites opens with Korvo getting shot in the throat by a voice-changing ray. It’s initially jarring to hear the stumbling, extremely Roiland-esque narration read by Dan Stevens, but the actor’s plummy English tones are actually a perfect fit for the uptight alien. And while a “voice-changing ray” might sound like a laughably perfunctory solution to the problem, it’s likewise a perfect fit for a show that never takes itself too seriously.
The new season begins with Korvo suggesting that his family rein in their zany antics to prevent their young Pupa (Sagan McMahan) from going berserk again. With this in mind, Korvo and Terry (Thomas Middelditch)—the parental figures in this odd alien household...
