‘Solar Opposites’ returns for a transformative Halloween special that gets to the crux of the spooky season by riffing on a Christmas classic.
“Stop celebrating Halloween? Oh no, my pretty. I think you’ll find that you Are Halloween.”
Halloween specials have become a long and storied tradition in television and they’re a great opportunity for series – comedies and dramas alike – to really flex their genre muscles and remind audiences of Halloween’s inherent splendor. The beauty of Solar Opposites is that it’s a series that’s endlessly devoted to pop culture parodies and extended satire subversions that have touched on everything from Gerald’s Game to Now You See Me. The Solar family have largely fallen in love with Earth and its customs through their obsession with television and cinema’s warm inviting glow. It’s the perfect series for farcical holiday specials that poke fun at the...

Even if you’re not a Halloween person, October means spooky season. It feels like every brand, store, — and yes, every streamer, finds ways to incorporate themes of haunting and horror. Disney+ started early, with the September premiere of “Agatha All Along,” which will air new episodes for the next several weeks. In October, the streamer will debut “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” an expansion of the popular Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” which aired from 2007 to 2012.
And of course Hulu has “Huluween,” a celebration of the scariest titles either premiering on the streamer for the first time or simply highlighted from its existing library. That includes films like “Late Night with the Devil,” the series “Reginald the Vampire,” FX’s “American Horror Stories”, a Halloween specials from “Family Guy” and “Solar Opposites,” a docuseries on witch hunting, and much more.

Solar Opposites is a brilliant animated series about family, love, friends, and some very confused aliens. Created by the minds behind Rick and Morty, the Hulu original series follows a group of aliens escaping from the exploding home world after which they crash land into a ready-to-move-in home in suburban America. The series centers around the group as they find out more and more about the Earth and also they are waiting until Pupa, a living supercomputer is ready to evolve into its true form, and then consume and terraform the Earth. So, if you loved the incredibly dark and hilarious storylines and brilliant comedic bits in Solar Opposites here are some similar shows you should check out next.

"Solar Opposites" is back for season 5, and the show is as funny as ever. The adult animated sitcom created by Mike McMahan and disgraced animator Justin Roiland continues to blend the sci-fi lunacy of "Rick and Morty" with classic family sitcom tropes without veering too much into a single territory, keeping audiences on their toes as they watch. The stories about this alien family reluctantly coming to love planet Earth despite how much they complain about it, choosing time and time again to stay here when it's a detriment to their mission, are funny. Still, it's in the B-plots where the show truly shines.
The first of these B-plots is The Wall, a recurring segment taking place in a terrarium of one of the alien kids, who continuously shrinks random people against their will when he feels they wrong him, and puts them in the terrarium. After a while, The Wall became a full society,...

Some of the behind-the-scenes process of creating Solar Opposites' adult foul-mouthed and sexual content was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con (Sdcc).

Picking up where the previous season left off, the Shlorpian family, led by Korvo (voiced by Dan Stevens), found themselves on a new planet, Clervix 3, where they had to navigate an overly competent society.

The animated series “Solar Opposites” has brought significant alterations both behind the scenes and within its storyline for the fifth season on Hulu. The show, which centers around an alien family stuck on Earth, has introduced a new voice actor for a principal character and revived an important villain from earlier episodes.
British actor Dan Stevens, known for starring roles in “Downton Abbey” and “Beauty and the Beast,” now voices the character of Korvo, one of the main aliens. This replaces the previous voice actor Justin Roiland, who co-created the show but lost his job after facing domestic violence charges in 2020. Stevens said he’s enthusiastic about the new part in an interview, expressing his passion for voice acting in adult animation projects.

Hulu has given a series order to the comedy “Mid-Century Modern,” Variety has learned.
The multi-cam was first reported to be in the works at the streamer in June. Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin star.
The official logline states that the show follows “three best friends — gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done.”
Full character descriptions can be found below.
The series was created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, with both also executive producing. Lane and Bomer are also executive producers, along with Ryan Murphy and James Burrows, with Burrows having directed the pilot.

Just a few years ago, four aliens found themselves transported far from their homeworld of Shlorp, stranded on a strange new planet called Earth. At first, Korvo, Terry, Jesse, and Yumyulack could hardly believe the things humans did—their crowded cities, fast food, and endless consumerism. But over time, they grew to appreciate our world’s simple pleasures too.
Now in its fifth season, Solar Opposites continues following the aliens’ hilarious adventures in assimilation. This time, things get reset when the family ends up transported once more to a whole new planet called Clervix 3. There, they find a society obsessed with order and competence and not standing out in any way. Of course, that doesn’t stop the Solars from stirring up chaos in their own delightfully bizarre way.
Alongside their wacky escapades among the overly-normal Clervixians, season five also checks back in on the pocket universe inside the Solars’ backyard,...

Solar Opposites has always felt like the little brother to Rick & Morty, considering their similar style, humor, and (once) creative teams, but now it’s starting to feel like a carbon copy of the elder statesman of adult animation. Season 5 of Solar Opposites has a few funny moments but largely lacks the creativity that has made the show a fan favorite.
Solar Opposites Review
This season follows the Shlorpians as they attempt to figure out a family dynamic, made even more tumultuous by the fact that Korvo and Terry are now married (a development from the Valentine’s Day special released earlier this year). Considering the new plot points, it should come as no surprise that Solar Opposites season 5 leans more heavily into the sitcom side of the show. While this leads to a few really funny jokes and satirical moments about domesticity, those looking forward to more weird sci-fi antics will likely be disappointed.

Ahead of the release of "Cuckoo," I asked Dan Stevens in an interview where his character, Herr König, ranked in his roster of "freaky lil' weirdos." Instead of being a terrible parent and admitting which child is the gold star, he took the more diplomatic route. "I mean, I love all my weird little freaks equally," he says. "I couldn't possibly put them in order, but he's definitely up there in terms of how fun they were to play, largely because of the environment that was created." I can't argue with the answer and I respect his refusal to play favorites, but I am not Dan Stevens, and therefore, I have no qualms about highlighting all of my favorite weird performances of his, and ranking them so as to appease the almighty algorithm that requires such things. This is by no means a definitive list, but 10 of his absolute finest.

That means reuniting with franchise crown jewel Robert Downey Jr. as well as the Russo brothers, who directed the two most successful movies for the studio with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. But bringing back key members of the old gang won’t come cheap.

Joey King plays a teenager awaiting a promised transformation in the Netflix sci-fi adaptation, Uglies.
“King plays Tally, a young woman eagerly counting down the days until she can undergo a cosmetic procedure that all city-dwellers in her world experience at the age of 16, transforming their faces and bodies into flawless model-like physiques. This is the great promise of her society, pushed by Dr. Cable...

Today, Hulu revealed the official trailer for Solar Opposites Season 5 at the San Diego Comic-Con. The fifth season premieres on August 12 and will consist of 11 episodes, followed by a Halloween special episode later this fall. A specific date was not announced.
Dan Stevens also announced via a pre-recorded video that the hit adult animation series has been renewed for a sixth season.
Solar Opposites centers around a team of four aliens who are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Dan Stevens) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty.
At the same time, Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love TV, junk food, and fun stuff. In season five, now that alien mission partners Terry and Korvo are married, the whole Solar Opposites team is focused on family values.
Mike McMahan and Josh Bycel executive produce Solar Opposites, which is produced by 20th Television Animation.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.
But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

While, Hulu is not as flashy as some of the other streaming services like Netflix, Max, and Disney+, it has a solid library of shows that are both originals and licensed through various studios. Regarding sci-fi shows, Hulu doesn’t have any big names like 3 Body Problem or Westworld, but it makes up for that by carrying some great new and old shows like Devs and The X-Files, which were loved by millions of people. So, we thought of making a list of the best sci-fi TV shows you can find on Hulu right now.
