Batwoman starts... very badly.
Look I really tried to give this show a shot. I've watched nearly every DC and Marvel TV Series, and I'm caught up on all the Arrowverse shows. So far this series doesn't show anything worthwhile. The only thing I can really say positively about this so far has to be the set design and score by Blake Neely, which is always great. Everything else is mediocre or just bad. None of the characters gelled with me, they all follow their cliche character tropes. Most of the acting is wooden, to just bad. Ruby Rose isn't a strong enough actress to hold this series, and the writing isn't good enough to make me care for these characters. The entire episode structure is horrendous. The editing makes this even worse. The episode has this cliche narration for about the first half of the episode and then suddenly it disappears. It has these flashbacks throughout the episode, some which are in slow motion, except at like 2 frames a second. The placement of these are completely off too. Arrow has done both of these well. They keep a consistent timing and pacing for the flashbacks that work, and the narration from its first season was very well done. They had the perfect template with Arrow, but they just do it so haphazardly, and the entire episodes pacing suffers SEVERELY from it. I literally just watched the episode and I'm having trouble remembering what happened because all the characters are just so one note. Wrapping things up because I just don't want to write about this pilot anymore, Batwoman just does not work. There's just nothing I found to be good, except for the stuff I mentioned earlier. Kate Kane isn't an interesting, or well performed protagonist, and the writing is all cliched and just weak. Minor spoilers, but I hate how they revealed a potentially great twist at the end of this episode. Overall Batwoman's Pilot is just really bad. Can it improve in later episodes? Oh definitely, I mean anything can improve, but if this is the pilot they wrote to get people hooked, it definitely failed.
