There is a scene inn thIs episode that is film making at its finest.

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT! Fairly early in the episode, John takes his dad up to a high peak overlooking the Ranch. Both men know that the end has come for the elder Dutton. The acting is superb. The elder Dutton is played by Dabney Coleman, who gives a brilliant performance. Costner doesn't have many lines. They aren't necessary. The camera work is outstanding. A mix of hand held and panoramic shots. Close ups when needed. Great direction. And best of all, you will understand why John Dutton is so he is at the end of the scene. Watch it several times. Each time, you'll see something, hear something new. Add to it Chris Stapleton singing Daddy Don't Pray No More as the sound track making it perfect IMO......

Season 3 can't come any faster.
sybil117 April 2020
Great episode filled with action and of course, the drama. Great cast of actors, and I still stand by saying that this is one of the most underrated series' out there.

I really hope they delve into the family dynamic between Kayce, Beth and Jamie, and with their father a bit more since they're all pretty much under one roof (per say) now, and I also hope we get to see Tate interact with his uncle and aunty. I also really love John and Tate's relationship, it's so cute. Also, Kevin Costner is the best, he's such a bamf, haha.

Can't wait for season 3, and I hope there are many more seasons to come.

Just brilliant all around
perillomike12 December 2021
This episode has some of the best scenes in the series so far. Kevin Costner in a flashback with his dad (a stellar Dabney Colman) is emotional and touching. Kelly Reilly and series standout Cole Hauser have an equally touching scene. Well deserved for such a loyal character. The scenery and camera work are also top notch. Just a beautiful series to watch.

Great Episode; Simple Question
monticellomeadow-953565 December 2023
This was a fine end to Season 2. Many well-acted scenes with memorable lines. There was just one thing that puzzled me greatly. A big deal was made of Kayce and his buddy sneaking into the hanger and sticking a bomb in the fuel tank of the Beck brothers plane. In a previous episode Kayce and John Dutton had talked about the discovered plane and how Kayce could make it blow up right over Yellowstone. OK. Sounds great! And then??? And then???... The Beck brothers are killed. As far as we know, that plane is still in the hanger, waiting for their innocent, unsuspecting pilot to fly off in the plan and be blow to bits. Very curious. Isn't it one of the unwritten rules of writing that if you introduce a bomb, it has to explode? Thoughts? Answers?

Is that all?

Great characters, cast, story but... I want more. I was looking for another episode, I appreciate that these series aren't created from air but each episode, not really long enough. Not enough eps per season. More more more.

OK. Beth is a horrible intricate character. Why? She hates Jamie because... he got to ride away after their mother fell from a horse, and Beth didn't.

Kasey is a soldier and the baby of the family. Only character I get.

Good Actors good action not enough if the character development for me.

Intense and superbly made

Greetings from Lithuania.

Not without it high and downs, season 2 as a whole was a very good one and memorable. This episode in particular was highly intense, excellently paced and amazingly acted. There is not a single dumb moment in the entire episode.

Overall, i will definitely watch season 3. Yellowstone is a superb drama.

Wanted this episode to be good
e_s_reyne28 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode should have been the most significant to date. Two seasons of conflict building up to this one resolution. That resolution was kind of a let down. Characters that were once significant and strong (Beth and Jamie for example) have been reduced to guest appearances and side ponies by the end of season 2. Other characters have come and gone, serving no purpose - ie. Cowboy, Avery, Walker. It's almost like a bunch of characters were added to explore potential stories, but the writers started so many threads that they couldn't chase any one down fully and it came unraveled.

The battle scene at the end should have been a climax as high as Phyllis Vance (The Office) experiencing one for a full year. After all, this Dutton crew was going up against and actual militia - highly trained soldiers with armor piercing machine guns, night vision, and thermal. Rip was to go riding in like LeeeeRrrroy freeeeeaking Jeeenkins, but was more like a toddler skipping in on one of those stuffed horse heads on a stick with a cap gun - pew pew. Anti climactic is an understatement. A couple of soldiers, having no suspicion to believe anyone was rallying out front started to shoot. Not a soul injured or in any real danger. A few shouts of "Livestock Commission" and the paid mercenaries started dropping their weapons and raising their arms in submission. BUT WAIT! out of some weeds (roughly 10 ft from the "action" where nobody could see him?) runs the guy who caused all of this. Johns pulls out his cap gun "whoa, urrhh hey!" Malcom takes a quick shot to the gut and that about wraps up his story and he left as quietly as he came as if he was never there to begin with. Again. Very anticlimactic. Finally.... amidst all of this, Monica is finally somewhat onboard with the Dutton ways, so much so she forces Kayce to promise that he'll kill her sons captors. She is now here to stay, however doesn't even get to see Tate return. Soo again. Very anticlimactic. We really wanted to love this episode, but we needed so much more. Should have easily been an hour thirty to get close to conveying the urgency, resolving the conflict, and witnessing the aftermath.

Oh and Dan Jenkins died? Because being the mastermind behind the plan to abolish the Duttons was enough for him, and there is nothing more creative the writers can do with him, so he's tapped out by some stealthy Cowboy Ninja. Weak.

Warning: Spoilers
I have really enjoyed the series up to this point but after this episode, which is a season finale, I don't think I will continue watching. This episode was so odd, both in writing and execution. The pase was all over the place, the story is jumpy at best and it feels so incredibly rushed.

I had so high expectations, the series up to this point has been amazing and I was hoping for a great finale. The only scene with substance, that had any emotional weight, was when Rip got some recognition. Other than that it was such a let down. The Beck Brothers, who are supposed to be these big baddies, deserved so much better writing than this. And Dan, what a disappointing ending, almost comical with how they made his last words be "this is America".

I don't know if I will continue on to season 3, if this is the level they have settled on then I'm better of finding another series. I'm happy I got the episodes that led up to this one, wish I had stopped and that I could unsee this finale.

Standout episode in a darn good series. Kostner has more than redeemed himself for playing Robin Hood. The quality is going to be hard to maintain going forward however.

And turns out to be taken out very easy ... + making those second second amendment patriots into bad guys is an insult to 90% of Yellowstone audience !

Sins of the Father
lassegalsgaard29 May 2024
The momentum is definitely on the rise and this season of "Yellowstone" has managed to really get me onboard. This is a show that works best when the threat is actually real and John Dutton isn't as untouchable as he was during the show's first season. There are actually things coming down on him now, and that's the kind of tension a show like this needs in order to really get interesting. They had set up a truly explosive finale, and they didn't miss it. This was definitely a cool finale that was constantly moving and never failed to really speed up the tension a lot.

It doesn't take long for the episode to show that it means real business. The episode starts out with an awesome shootout with a tragic outcome, and a reminder that no one is safe in these wild lands. It's then pretty much non-stop suspenseful storytelling from there, ramping it up with a lot of cool action sequences that really takes the show to another level in terms of it's wild nature. It's been a while since the show has had this much going for it, and it's nice to see that the show is more than just cowboys riding around protecting their turf, although that is the core of what makes this show interesting. There are a lot of moments that really raise the bar for the individual characters here, and some lovely things that will surely change the trajectory and the interactions between characters going forward. All of the actors get plenty of opportunities to shine, with Kevin Costner continuing to nail this character. His character is not someone who lets himself down easily, but he's also not invulnerable, and Costner is able to truly play up the humanity of this character, despite his wicked ways, making into a sympathetic figure, and that's the strength of this character in the performance. The supporting cast does really good work here as well, and some of them we're going to miss going forward. This finale definitely left me with the feeling of this show going somewhere good in the future, and I'm ready to go on.

"Sins of the Father" is a suspenseful episode that rarely misses the beat on its action and keeps the audience in a tight grip throughout. It features some of the season's best character moments and forms some interesting dynamics going forward, which is enough to definitely make me want to come back for more.

I shed tears multiple times
faresar18 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was very emotional for me. (spoilers ahead)

  • John saying goodbye to his father
  • Rip crying happy over the fact that he was called a son. More happy than being gifted a property
  • Kayce reuniting with his son (wow i felt bad for the kid and his family. Can only imagine)
  • John crying over his grandson after realizing what was averted and what could have happened.

I mean this was so packed. The bad guys went down so easily without any collateral loss which i get why that was abit disappointing for some but this made me see this show in an entirely different way. Really well made. Good job. Bar raised very high ..........................

Sins of the Father

Warning: Spoilers
A wild episode to wrap up the season, but it was almost too cartoonish at times. What separated this show from the pack was how it didn't go nonsensical with the violence and how every death mattered, but they threw that out the window here.

What was the point of the Beck brothers?
soccerball-487287 March 2022
The Beck brothers barely developed as characters in this show, and turned out to be weak and stupid enemies that were easy to take down. John Dutton had to received zero actual consequences from fighting them and barely collaborated with Jenkins and the Indigenous guy. Overall, this show is way overhyped.

Sons of Anarchy on a ranch
bcbrown-674878 April 2022
Nowhere as good as Longmire but watchable. The big problem with it is the lack of likeable characters. Pretty standard fare with the overbearing father, one loved son, one son who screws up constantly and a daughter who conives her way through the disfunctional family. Still it's okay and interesting to a point.

Am I watching Narcos Montana?
alex-32202931012 June 2023
While season 1 was - somewhat - believable regarding the operations of the authorities involved (lifestock agents, tribal police etc.), season 2 descended into a territory where you think that a drug cartel war couldn't be much worse.

And I'm not even talking about the consequences of planting a bomb on an airplane (there wouldn't be an FAA investigation? Oh yes, probably the Montana Lifestock association has authority to investigate plane accidents too). I suppose if even a third of the things that happened in this season happen in real life, there would already be several visits from the FBI.

Most of the parties involved suffer from their "I won't go to the police" attitude, which is reminiscent of the old "only a rat talks to the DEA" cartel ethos. Sorry, this is a bit over the top. After all we're talking about cattle farmers here...

Disappointing ending with unfulfilled characters
adamlindd20 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The show displayed a remarkable ability to balance its characters, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats throughout. Dan Jenkins emerged as a formidable antagonist, yet the introduction of the Beck brothers lacked the depth needed to match his impact, resulting in Dan's demise feeling undeserved.

The shooting scene evoked a vintage Hollywood aesthetic reminiscent of 1980s Narcos, way to unrealistic. Casey's subdued response to his son's kidnapping was disconcerting, especially considering his prior actions. (almost killing a drifter on a "bad day"?) The narrative surrounding Casey fell short of expectations, failing to deliver the anticipated payoff. He deliverd his promise and killed the defenseless antagonist on a toilet break, but kept his calm while his son was in danger?

I'm not typically one to easily find shows that capture my interest, but this one truly did. However, after this last episode of Yellowstone, I find that my enthusiasm for the show has waned.

How can people be rating this episode so highly? It felt more like a series finale rather than a season ending episode. Hardly any suspense at all, such as the great peril Rip was facing, or mention of lingering issues with other characters. And the shootout at the militia's hideout? Ha! "You can bet they have infrared too." What a bunch of wimps. This is a fitting ending to what was a lackluster Season 2 after a much better Season 1.

Season Two Review
southdavid4 February 2023
I enjoyed the first season of "Yellowstone" even if it was, perhaps, a little frothier than I was anticipating. I enjoyed this second season two, as it became slightly more serious and darker.

Kayce (Luke Grimes) seems to accept the loss of his family and returns home to take control of the ranch, disagreements with Rip (Cole Hauser) soon threaten to boil over. After refusing to pull out of the race for district attorney, Jamie (Wes Bentley) is distraught when his family pick a new candidate to support, his disappointment turns to fear though when he's unable to retract his contributions to the article about his father. Dan Jenkins (Danny Houston) and Chief Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) press ahead with their plans for the Casino, but attract dangerous new enemies in the Beck brothers, Malcolm (Neal McDonough) and Teal (Terry Serpico)

Much what I enjoyed about the first season returns here. Performances and cinematography are both really good. With Reilly remaining a standout and deeper roles for Cole Hauser and for Wes Bentley. The enemies now becoming friends against a new threat storyline is one that has been done plenty of times, but it's fun here, even if the ending is a touch less reliant on that than I thought it might be. You also continue to learn about the situation for Native Americans in modern times, as Monica (Kelsey Asbille) starts working at the university, teach a course on American history with a native perspective.

The storyline is darker though, which is saying something for a show that already had several murders in it. Dan Jenkins preferred legal means to antagonise the Dutton's, but the Beck's are gangsters that wouldn't have looked out of place in "Breaking Bad" and their attack on Beth is a moment that this season pivots around.

I already quite liked the show, but season two is an improvement on the first and I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.
