Back in March, I wrote a column about the Netflix Effect, and the boost that non-Netflix shows often get when they arrive on the streaming giant. One of the series I used as an example was Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial posing as a Colorado small-town doctor after being stranded by a spaceship crash; I had barely watched it in its primary home on Syfy, only to begin bingeing it once the first two seasons joined the Netflix library. In that column, I observed, “It’s often...

Exclusive: Michael Cassidy (Fatal Attraction) is set for a recurring role on the second season of NBC’s Found.
The series, which hails from All American‘s Nkechi Okoro Carroll, follows public relations specialist Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton) and her crisis management team dedicated to finding missing persons, especially those often overlooked by the system. Gabi was once one of those forgotten ones, and is still hiding a chilling secret of her own – she has found her kidnapper, Sir, (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and uses his twisted expertise to help solve their cases. In any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about.
Cassidy plays a grief counselor with controversial ties to Gabi’s past, who shows up to help in more ways than one.

Thank God for the John Sugars and Harry Vanderspiegels who visit our world.
They make up for the rest of the observers whose observation is worse than action.
Just like Harry on Resident Alien, Sugar's emerging humanity is one of the best things about him.
Violence isn't the answer, and he knows it. But now he knows what even peaceful nations have long known -- to maintain peace, you must make threats, and if peace is disturbed, you must carry through on them.
For a full Sugar Season 1 Episode 7 recap, click that link. It dives into the details, as usual.
As much as John doesn't want to lose his essence, he has discovered beauty in humanity, realizing that embracing some of what makes them worth observing isn't such a bad thing.
His connection to Melanie drives that line of thinking. In all his time on earth, he's never felt the need to share his secret,...

Syfy has given a series order to Revival, a drama based on the comic book series of the same name, for a 2025 debut. The announcement was part of Syfy’s upcoming slate reveal ahead of the NBCU upfront presentation Monday.
It also included Reginald the Vampire, starring Jacob Batalon, whose second season premiered May 8, and The Ark, whose second season will follow this summer.
Not mentioned in the release are the two high-end, homegrown, UCP-produced Syfy scripted series, Chucky, which it shares with USA Network, and Resident Alien. While Part 2 of Chucky‘s third season just ended its run, the future of Resident Alien is in serious limbo.
As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this week, there are talks about the sci-fi series starring Alan Tudyk moving from Syfy to NBCU cable sibling USA Network, with a return to Syfy for Season 4 unlikely.

SyFy has fans angry with the news that they might be canceling a popular and beloved series. However, there are some hopes that another network might pick it up as the show’s producers are looking for a new home. Here is what you need to know about this possible SyFy change.
SyFy Considering Dropping Popular Show From Schedule
The SyFy Network has often faced criticism for canceling shows before they finish their storylines. This is happening again with one of the cable network’s more popular sci-fi series. The series in question is Resident Alien, and there is reason to believe that Season 3 will be the final one that airs on SyFy.
Resident Alien stars Alan Tudyk as an alien with an unpronounceable birth name who has crash-landed in Patience, Colorado, killed Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, and assumed his identity. His orders are to destroy the human race, but as...

The future of Resident Alien is up in the air. The Syfy sci-fi series wrapped its third season early last month, and it has not yet been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season. If the series does return, it is not likely to be on Syfy.
Starring Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Judah Prehn, and Elizabeth Bowen, the series follows what happens when an alien (Tudyk) on a mission to kill all humans assimilates with the residents of his small town, complicating his task.

Launched back in 2021, Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk has been nothing but a stunning success for both viewers and critics. The show introduced its third season earlier this year which, after being wrapped up by the finale released in April, has all chances to pave the show’s way further for more seasons.
Despite overall delight, Resident Alien still might face some challenges as the series now risks moving somewhere else away from its current home network.
Initially being run by NBCU’s Syfy, Resident Alien may reportedly be shifted to USA Network, the channel that right now doesn’t have any original shows airing, except for Chucky that the network shares with the same Syfy.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Resident Alien Season 3 finale, “Homecoming.”] The future of Syfy‘s beloved comedy Resident Alien is unclear. The series, which aired its Season 3 finale on April 3, has yet to be renewed for Season 4. It might experience a network change in order to save it, but that could come at a cost. Well, a decrease in cost. The powers that be at NBCUniversal are reportedly considering moving Resident Alien from Syfy to its sister channel, USA Network, according to Deadline. A fourth season at Syfy is reportedly not likely. As it stands, USA only has one scripted TV series, Chucky, and it’s shared with Syfy. If the Alan Tudyk-led comedy were to move to USA, it’s possible that its budget would be drastically reduced to as little as $500,000 per episode, Deadline reports. The production behind Resident Alien, UCP, part of Universal Studio Group, reportedly wants to keep the series...

Exclusive: A little over a month after Season 3 of Resident Alien wrapped its run on Syfy, the future of the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama is up in the air. And there is some intrigue over where the series starring Alan Tudyk would continue should it get a fourth season.
I hear there are talks about Resident Alien moving from Syfy to NBCU cable sibling USA Network, which currently doesn’t have scripted originals besides Chucky, which it shares with Syfy. According to sources, a return to Syfy appears unlikely, so USA is Resident Alien‘s only feasible destination within NBCU, whose UCP division produces the adaptation of the comic book by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse.
But a potential Season 4 pickup by USA would come with a major budget reduction, as much as $500,000 an episode, which will be challenging, I hear.

From the tiniest micro-organism to the far reaches of the universe, sci-fi adaptations have made a triumphant splash across multiple streaming platforms. For decades, the collective groans that routinely followed book-to-tv adaptation announcements were a given.
At the same time, many science fiction books are so steeped in lore, character motivations, politics, and scientific complexities that converting prose to a "show but don't tell" format is a tall task.
Star Trek, for instance, has historically been pretty cut and dry with its science. A phaser will vaporize you, and a transporter will, well, transport you.
Now, imagine explaining the three-body problem from a show but don't tell approach.
Thankfully, the rash of exciting new sci-fi adventures solves these riddles with filmmakers and writers who are passionate about the material.

As is the case with many series that drop on Apple TV+, conversation surrounding Sugar is practically nonexistent, save for a few old Reddit threads.
Those still commenting on the most active of those threads, as well as some Facebook folks we found commenting on the Sugar Series Premiere review, aren't that excited to be here.
Is it the genre, the storytelling, Apple TV+, or a combination of all three?
Part of the problem is that somewhere, some time, Apple TV+ promoted Sugar as a sci-fi show.
If you've watched through Sugar Season 1 Episode 3, then you may still be asking how that fits. But at least "Shibuya Crossing" offered a few strands of evidence that suggest this isn't just another Pi tale.

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 8 of Resident Alien, “Homecoming.”] The end of Resident Alien Season 3 was a doozy. The episode, titled “Homecoming,” dropped bombshell after bombshell, from the moon being a full-on spaceship to Harry (Alan Tudyk) being body-snatched by a Mantid and beyond. While Syfy has not yet renewed the hit sci-fi-comedy for a fourth season, some of the details of what’ll happen if and when the show returns are starting to come into our orbit. Here’s a look at everything we know about Resident Alien Season 4 so far. Will Asta realize Harry’s been body-swapped? Now that Harry (Alan Tudyk) has had his body taken over by a Mantid (voiced by Clancy Brown), fans are probably wondering whether the humans in his life will recognize the change of demeanor — Max Hawthorne (Judah Prehn) certainly noticed some differences in his grown-up foe. Showrunner Chris Sheridan told TVinsider, though, even his closest pal Asta...

Well, that was an action-packed finale!
Finally, most of the town is in on the alien joke, and the story is the better for it.
We could have spent a lot of time goofing around with Harry being a dufus in Patience, but Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 8 set him and everyone up for a crazy story expansion for a potential fourth season.
While Resident Alien hasn't been renewed yet, with word of mouth and excellent storytelling, it has to return.
Syfy hasn't had a hit this big in years, and it's not easy to build a show of this magnitude or keep up its momentum. They have done that excellently here.
The season finale didn't waste any time. There were very few normal Patience happenings, with the exception of Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv, who will never stop bickering (and we hope they never do!).
Cletus joined their task force,...

And there are two Harrys? And the Alien Tracker is now… a cyborg? Resident Alien has always been a wild ride but the third-season finale was a full journey. Literally from Earth into orbit. And along the way, fans of TV’s best sci-fi comedy going got so many twists and flips and frickin’ moments to talk about, we don’t know where to begin. Syfy Throughout most of the season, the action revolved around curmudgeonly E.T. Harry (Alan Tudyk) and human pal Asta (Sara Tomko) racing to find a way to stop the alien hybrids known as the Greys from taking over the planet. With some surprising help from Asta’s bestie D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund), as well as ex-pat Grey Joseph (Enver Gjokaj) and Harry...

At WonderCon 2024, the creator behind Syfy's Resident Alien shared some details on what he’d like to explore in a hypothetical Season 4.
The incredibly popular comedy series, whose first two seasons are now on Netflix, follows Alan Tudyk’s Harry, an alien who crash-lands on Earth while on a mission to irradiate all life on the planet.
Little did the extraterrestrial know what he’d be in for as he learned all about humans, making more than a handful of friends along the way.

Love changes a person, and on Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 7, Harry comes to that realization after dealing with his breakup.
Nobody should be robbed of the experience, no matter how difficult it is to handle.
Let's just thank goodness that most of us don't have to go on a killing spree for our hearts to grow three sizes.
Lovelorn Harry was growing old fast, so I'm thankful he found more love to fill his broken heart.
But until he learned what it was like to have his heart smashed to bits, he was incapable of putting others before himself.
"Here Comes My Baby" was another installment heavy on laughs, with a few important developments tossed into the mix.
Laughter is the best medicine, they say, but what they forget is that when it comes to discussing TV, if laughter is all you've got, talking about it isn't the easiest thing to do.

As random and arbitrary as Netflix's Top 10 can appear, it starts to become more predictable upon closer inspection. Like the media rental stores of ancient times (which were essentially the streaming services of their epoch), new Netflix originals inevitably rank high before dwindling off in the same way that Blockbusters would initially stock their shelves with roughly 10,000 copies of the latest tentpole. Along those same lines, viewers frequently play catchup right before a show returns by marathoning its previous season(s), which is how a cult Syfy comedy series like "Resident Alien" ends up charting seemingly out of the blue.
Then there are the under-the-radar titles that find their way onto Netflix only to be discovered anew by its users, much like a customer perusing the aisles of their local video rental shop and stumbling upon some previously ignored movie featuring one of their favorite actors. So it is...

Yes, tense roommate issues trump aliens and bombs. Anyone who has been annoyed with their roommates knows it's true.
You can become so consumed with the fact someone ate your last yogurt without asking that a nuclear bomb could hit you, and you still wouldn't be able to shake it.
So, it's no surprise that D'Arcy and Asta are at odds. They are very different people who love one another a lot. That's a recipe for disaster.
Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 6 was kind of a filler episode with bits of information affecting the overall season arc sprinkled in.
The full flavor of the episode was how those you love the most can be the most disappointing, and to that end, it worked very well.
D'Arcy Bloom has been doing a lot of self-reflection. She's looking at her mistakes and holding herself to a new standard. Is she going too far?...

Enjoy Heather the Avian Alien while you can, folks, because if the title of the next episode is any indication, she's soon leaving the nest.
The title is "Bye Bye Birdie."
If there's one thing that we know after Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 5, it's that Harry isn't going to save the world if Heather sticks around.
Kudos again to Alan Tudyk and Edi Patterson for putting so much life into Harry and Heather as they flock together.
I often wonder what the blooper reel for Resident Alien must be like, and after watching those two at the friendly dinner at Asta and D'Arcy's place, I'm more certain than ever they'd need an additional season to share all of the blooper joy.
With so much comedic antics going on, you might think there wouldn't be much time for story, but you'd be wrong.
