Unlike many Netflix shows, this show is decent, it isn't filthy and seems to emphasize the importance of family and forgiveness. Overall good acting and writing. Waiting for season 2.
Had nothing to watch so I just put this show on. On the 3rd episode and it is really good!

Can I just say how excited I am to see Kathleen Robertson!!! She is wonderful as Charlie. William Baldwin has done an amazing job with this show. It's enjoyable and interesting.

The rescue portions of this show are a joke. The ladies are all pretty good.
Baldwin's character is bad, would never be a good leader, but I blame that on the writing/directing.

It's nice to see a down to earth family drama! Watching this was like reading a good book and when it is done, I feel like I am missing my new friends!! Can't wait for Season 2!
Amalia Williamson's wardrobe is how many shorts and leggings?? Shes worn the same in first 4 episodes. They should also involve the Aquarium they live in more...who wouldn't want to live in such a unique place...show it off!
Once I started watching I fell in love with the characters!! The storyline is amazing!! 100% recommend when is season 2 coming out
That's one family of not-too-bright and easily influenced kids. Why on earth should Maddie be mad at John in the last episode? I don't think this is a spoiler; she's mad at everyone throughout the whole series. Interesting that the 12-year-old is played by a 26-year-old actress. Why they keep falling for Gwen's nonsense is beyond me. I'll probably watch a second season, but only to see if the characters shape up a little. If not, I'll cut my losses and watch something else.

As in, I want to hang the writers, producers, directors, actors etc. over the side of a cliff until they promise to never work in film or television ever again.
Even the good Baldwin couldn't make this bearable. I did watch all 10 episodes, boredom, something to poke fun at, glutton for punishment but I watched them all.
The daughter dresses like a hooker, her friend is..... what is the deal with her friend? A tramp in training?
The wrestling rivarly? They can't stand each other and then bond over a joint only to be at each other's throats again?
A pet penguin? Seriously? Although the penguin and the bear are the best actors on this show.
Deplorable acting, horrible script, no chemistry between the characters, characters you couldn't pay me to care about.
I know, I know, I've never acted or been in a movie or TV show, at least I wasn't in this wretched dreck.

I was expecting better from CBC. The last episode was terrible! It was like someone told them to add more stuff or it won't sell.
Overall, it was better than average (aka I've seen far worse). I don't live in the US, so I don't know schools' dress codes, or who's allowed to drive ATV's on public roads!
They are many storyline errors, and little backfill, but the show was passable, given there were 4 directors, 7 writers, 10 producers, 1 bear and 1 penguin but no cats or dogs!
First of all, where is this supposed to be. I realize its filmed in Parry Sound Canada, but at first they say its north of Boston??? What...there is no mention that they moved to Canada.
Second what the heck is he supposed to be? SAR??? What certifications does he have?, EMT, firefighter. paramedic what?, can it be easily switched to wherever?
Wrestling season is a winter sport, yet it looks like a summer all the time.
Why does the oldest daughter look like a 30 year old hooker? Is the only clothes she has is short shorts?
What the hell is with the porcupine hair of Alex Baldwin. I could go on, a hot mess of writing and show research.
Really tired. 600 Words did very similar story much better. Baldwin, meh.

"Northern Rescue" is family drama about dealing with loss, starting over, and the importance of family.
Worthy themes are presented, but story lines feel tired and cliche. I can not recommend Northern Rescue. If you are looking for a show the whole family can watch, I would recommend "Everwood." You could probably pick up Everwood on DVD used pretty cheap.
"Everwood" is probably the inspiration for Northern Rescue and it was frankly a better show by a fair margin.

As a widower of 5 years this show was very real. I could so relate to the young daughter and her trying to fit in as some of the emotions my own dayghter suffering the loss of a parent. I loved Billy Baldwin's genuine care of a dad. Best show I've seen in a long time. Can't wait for many more seasons. Tina Konkin

The actors are too old to be playing the characters they portray. W Baldwin' s hair cant stay that black out on the water for long and why would a teenage girl(s) have such arched eyebrows and be in full makeup all the time. I want to like this show but it seems a bit far fetched so far.

Got hooked right away. Sad but makes me want to see how they work their way back. Great cast that seems believable.

Is this a humorless knockoff of the Australian series 800 Words? I understand the positive reviews, but the original was warm and quirky, while this series is cold and a!l too typical. Both series are essentially the same, attractive widower with attractive children pick up and move to a remote location from the big city following the death of wife and mother.
Very very average, guess you could call it family friendly, but is it really? I was watching because I had a migraine and couldn't move or think too hard about anything. The dad is one of the most wooden faced guys I have seen for a while, up there with Travolta. When some of the actors cry, you can actually see them working themselves up to the task, it is embarrassing to watch. The elegizing of the mom is kind of sickening, but understandable given that they are grieving I guess. The aunt is portrayed as the typical loser in life, stupid haircut too much eyeliner or whatever it is she wears, and sports t like someone from the 90's, sooooo formulaic. The dad, does not really parent, he is like the proverbial bull in a china shop at work too. No wonder his kids are so angry and wafting around so directionlessly. If he is an example of good parenting than I don't know what to say.

Most of Netflix original fair is horrible and I stray away from it. This show is refreshing in that it is well acted, well written, and contains many good components. It is about family, life, survivol, redemption, sorrow, happiness, love, conflict, etc. I highly recommend it if you want a good mostly clean show to watch (hard to find from a Netflix original) with good characters and good stories.
The writers are what makes this show not work. The acting is good, the premise is fine, the feel is slick and colorful but OMG, some things are just so wrong.
Charlie baking cakes and dealing with boyfriend while guests are in restaurant - really?
Gwen's character is simply out of control with no redeeming value..
Just too much fluff and I blame the writers
Insipid characters, pathetic acting, miserable dialog. This story has potential, but tge execution is simply sub-standard.
It's an easy watch. The viewer doesn't need to concentrate too much and it's a nice change from some of the 'gritty' dramas out there. I just have two questions - is there absolutely no dress code in the US or Canada for high school students? Maddie dresses like a cheap hooker and Gwen like a slightly more high class one (and they both look at least 10 years older than any high school student I've ever seen). And, are Search and Rescue personnel permitted to arrive on duty looking like they are badly hungover and have slept in their clothes?
I really can't decide if I absolutely love it or it's super bland. I'm trying to figure out if it's supposed be more parenthood or more ozark. I keep waiting for something super sketchy and crazy to happen but then it doesn't.
