All Brad Schwartz has to do now is find the next version of the types of things he’s discovered in the past: a new “Schitt’s Creek, the next Billy Eichner or the next smart revival of fondly-remembered favorites like “One Day At a Time” or “Degrassi Junior High.”
Easy, right? He will have ample time to seek out such properties as the new president of entertainment for the CW Network, recently placed under the control of Nexstar Media Group, which has ambitions of weaning the network off of the revenue its shows generate from outside streamers and building up a cash flow all its own. Schwartz will start in his new role on November 7, and report to Dennis Miller, president of the overall network.

Exclusive: The new iteration of The CW is starting to take shape.
Two and a half months after Nexstar Media Group acquired a majority stake in the broadcaster, the new owners are starting to make moves that will determine its programming mix and who will be leading this charge.
Chief among these include the search for a top programming executive, a re-tooling of its scripted lineup and a drive to greenlight more unscripted formats.
This comes after a major round of layoffs at the company as well as the departure of long-term execs such as streaming and branding chief Rick Haskins, ad chief Mitch Nedick and comms chief Paul Hewitt.
Earlier this month, Dennis Miller was named President of The CW Network, replacing Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz. Deadline understands that he has been leading a search for a programming boss with executives such as former Pop TV boss Brad Schwartz...

Warning: contains spoilers for Inside No. 9 series six.
In series six, Inside No. 9 pulled off a diamond heist, explored obsessive geek fandom, framed a cuckold in an international conspiracy, let a grotesque true crime bleed from reality to fiction and back again, made a deal with the devil, and killed Jesus. Where, one might well ask, next?
Anywhere it wants, is the answer to that question. The BBC Two anthology series can float from location to location, story to story, unhampered by the need to put down roots in any one place. Series seven brings half a dozen brand new films to screen, scored by composer Christian Henson, and each one as different as the last.
The official synopsis describes the new episodes as taking us “from the Welsh valleys to an abandoned house, from kidnappers to detectives, and from a day trip out in a pedalo to a public information film.

“Champaign Ill” featured rising stars Sam Richardson (“Veep”) and Adam Pally (“Happy Endings”) and garnered plenty of critical acclaim when it debuted. The series came from the minds behind popular comedies “Happy Endings” and “Black Monday.” Yet you probably never heard of it.
Originally produced for YouTube Premium, the entire 10-episode season was released in 2018. But the series, about a hip-hop star’s entourage that’s forced to readjust to life without perks when the star unexpectedly dies, didn’t manage to find audiences, particularly as YouTube started exiting the scripted business.
Now, “Champaign Ill” is getting a second lease on life — via a recent exclusive acquisition by Hulu, which re-premiered the series on Oct. 12. It’s the latest example of a show that fell through the cracks but then found a new home on a streamer, where audiences might discover it for the first time.

As Roku kicks the tires on NBC’s canceled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” it’s the latest streamer to potentially play hero for TV fans yearning to see their favorite bubble shows saved. It’s a common refrain: Revive a canceled series with a vocal fan base, and then capitalize on the attention that comes with acquiring a show with that rabid following.
Netflix has done it several times, with AMC’s “The Killing,” A&e’s “Longmire,” ABC’s “Designated Survivor,” Lifetime’s “You” and Fox’s “Lucifer.” Hulu early on revived “The Mindy Project,” also from Fox. And Amazon gave a second life to Syfy’s “The Expanse” and now, Pop TV’s “Flack.”
But shifting a broadcast or cable show to streaming is complicated. License fees, episodic orders and budgets are all different, and that makes renegotiating deals difficult. That’s partly why the “Zoey’s” revival at...

Amazon saw second-quarter net sales of $113 billion, up 27% but below expectations, dinging the shares, which fell more than 7% in late trading.
Consumers still shopped a lot on Amazon but growth was tempered as the world reopened — compared with the year-ago quarter when the global pandemic was at its height.
Net profit came in at a strong $7.8 billion, or $15.12 a share — up from $5.2 billion or $10.30.
Subscriptions services, which includes annual and monthly fees associated with Amazon Prime memberships, as well as digital video, audiobook, digital music, e-book, and other non-aws subscription services, grew revenue by 32% to $7.9 billion. Prime, which offers members unlimited fast delivery and access to Amazon Prime streaming, is now available in 22 countries with the latest addition of Portugal. CFO Brian Olsavsky said on a call with analysts that video “is good for the Prime program” and Amazon is investing in rolling out the Prime-member benefit across international markets.

Netflix has set the adult cast of their upcoming Australian family movie True Spirit with Oscar winner Anna Paquin, Avatar franchise star Cliff Curtis and Oscar nominee Josh Lawson.
True Spirit is based on the true story of Jessica Watson, a 16-year-old Australian who in 2010 became the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop and unassisted around the world. She accomplished what many thought impossible, navigating some of the world’s most challenging stretches of ocean and surviving seven knockdowns while at sea for 210 days. Watson will consult on the biopic.
The trio join previously announced Teagan Croft, who’ll portray Watson. Paquin is set to play Jessica’s mum, Julie Watson; Lawson is Jessica’s dad, Roger Watson, and Curtis is Jessica’s coach, Ben Bryant.
The movie will be shot in Queensland and Sydney later this year with a predominantly local cast and crew. The production is backed by...

After at least nine movies appearing as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is pretty much ready to hang up his hat as the X-Men mutant. (He even revealed as much recently that he’d love for Tom Hardy to take the reins.) Might that have something to do with how physically taxing the role was?
Academy Award winner Anna Paquin (now back on TV with the second season of “Flack” as a self-destructive public relations manager) recently came onto SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” to talk about her career, and of course the question of “X-Men” came up. The New Zealand-born actress played Rogue in the original live-action “X-Men” franchise. And Paquin said she became fast friends with Jackman on the set of the 2000 movie. (Via The Hollywood Reporter.)

The potential series, which has earned a pilot order at Amazon, stars Machado as the title character, aka “Magic Hands,” a masseuse who gets out of prison to find her neighborhood of Washington Heights severely gentrified in her absence. When Bosch first premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2014, the streaming world was in a very different place. Netflix had only House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under its belt. Hulu was still a joint venture owned by multiple conglomerates. Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock didn’t even exist. Now, in June 2021, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases is highlighted by one last outing for LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Bosch season 7 premieres on June 25. This will be the last batch of episodes for the series, before a spinoff gets rolling for IMDb TV. For those who are not caught up on the sprawling procedural, Amazon has some other original TV series this month as well. Brazilian crime drama Dom premieres on June 4. That will be followed by the second season of the Anna Paquin-starring public relations drama Flack on June 25.

Last spring, with film screens dimmed and a disproportionate number of folks left with extra time to fill, the TV world was ready to be an escape vehicle. Plenty of people stuck to the recent classics or embarked on catch-up projects, but for people trying to tackle the slew of new releases, there was plenty of room to fully embrace a different kind of darkness than the one happening outside their doors.
While “Flack” may not have gruesome killings or spawn Change.org petitions, the razor-like sensibilities of the celebrity-centered drama might be just the turn-into-the-skid entertainment to light a spark underneath Amazon Prime Video’s 2021 programming slate. Originally a 2019 premiere on erstwhile “Schitt’s Creek” home network Pop, the show centers on Robyn (Anna Paquin), a main employee at a crisis PR firm tasked with cleaning up the messes of star athletes, actresses, and public figures, who all have something to sponge from the headlines.

Being a publicist is normally pretty mundane. Yes, you work with famous people and get to interact in situations that most of your friends would be jealous of.
