Brian Cox’s Santa Claus is coming to town in the first trailer for Netflix’s animated holiday comedy That Christmas.
In the film’s first trailer, the Succession actor is sporting Kris Kringle’s standard uniform — a beard, red suit with a white fur trim and boots — as he delivers presents to children on the busiest night of the year, Christmas Eve.
That Christmas is based on a trilogy of children’s books by award-winning writer-director Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually and Yesterday) and marks his first leap into animation. The film features entwined stories about family and friends, love and loneliness and Santa Claus making a big mistake.
In her review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lovia Gyarkye praised the “charming animation” while adding that the movie “slyly avoids the usual mawkishness by grounding its whimsical story in the real and prickly emotions of life.

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band live in the shadow of The Beatles. In an interview, the “Back Off Boogaloo” singer explained the difference between the two groups. He only told half the story.
Ringo Starr said The Beatles and the All-Starr Band were centered on different things
During a 2021 interview with Vulture, the “You’re Sixteen” singer discussed the difference between the Fab Four and the All-Starr Band. “The Beatles were definitely a different part in my life,” he said. “I was in bands before The Beatles and then I was just there. Then it went mad, but we were making good music.
“That’s the four of us — and I can speak on behalf of the four of us on this. It was always about the music,” the “Photograph” singer added. “We were serious about the music and it still shows to this day. You can still listen to...

Sometimes, classic rock stars don’t understand their own work. Ringo Starr said some things about The Beatles’ “Love Me Do” that are just plain wrong. His comments don’t make sense in light of The Beatles’ career or Ringo’s career as a solo artist.
Ringo Starr said The Beatles’ ‘Love Me Do’ is his defining song
During a 2023 interview with Vulture, Ringo was asked to name the defining song of his career. “Because it was the first song, my answer is ‘Love Me Do,'” he said. “We were on vinyl. We made a record.
“Even though when I got to the studio, George Martin had a session guy for the drums, Andy White, but I played on it anyway,” the “Photograph” singer added. “He played it, I played it — he’s on the album, I think, and I’m on the single, so go figure. We were...

The Beatles defined classic rock in the 1960s, and The Eagles helped define classic rock in the 1970s. One of The Eagles felt his band included America’s equivalent of the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership. Here’s why he’s wrong on multiple levels.
1 of The Eagles said his band wrote songs just as well as The Beatles
During a 2013 interview with SongFacts, The Eagles’ Don Felder discussed the magic of The Eagles’ songwriting. “Everybody brought their particular talent to each recording,” he recalled. “And it was really an unusual circumstance to have five people in a band that every one of us wrote, sang, and played. And any one of us could have and had previously fronted their own band.”
Felder compared The Eagles to another famous group. “It was an unusual amount of talent that we had five singers, five songwriters, and five musicians,” he said. “And so what...

It takes more than a village to make a movie; it’s more like a small army. And in the case of “The Franchise,” that army has a lot of faces you’ll recognize.
Streaming on Max and airing on HBO on Sundays, the comedy series tells the story of a film crew working to put together the next installment in a major (fictional) superhero franchise. Along the way, they run into the many hurdles of Hollywood, with the show lovingly poking fun at how real superhero films seem to be made.
Like we said, you’re going to see a lot of familiar actors, some of whom have actually starred in real-life franchises. We’ve rounded them up for you below.
Here’s who’s who in “The Franchise.”
Colin Hutton/HBO Daniel (Himesh Patel)
Daniel is the First Ad on the fictional movie “Tecto,” and he basically keeps things afloat in the series.

The future is now, old man. When director Danny Boyle's horror classic "28 Days Later" first released in the United States back in June of 2003, the now-ubiquitous piece of tech known as the iPhone still remained almost exactly four years away from debuting. In the decades since, artists have found some unique ways to put these phones through their paces -- everything from music videos to feature-length movies have now been touted as being shot entirely on iPhones. The appeal is rather self-explanatory, with the idea being that storytellers of this tech-savvy generation need little more than ambition, creativity, and an iPhone to become genuine filmmakers in their own right. Forget all those stuffy (and exclusive) film schools or nepo-baby connections, because now anyone can shoot a movie with the most common smartphone of all.

“Don’t kill anybody unless you have to,” a rookie cop is told on his first day on the job in Greedy People. Not long afterward, he accidentally does just that, setting off a spiral of lethal events that give the the darkly comic thriller an impressive body count. Unfortunately, the proceedings become increasingly tiresome the more the characters are killed off, with the result that despite an impressive cast, the film comes to feel like a Coen brothers rip-off.
Set on a small island town rather than the snowy Midwest, this Fargo-like tale includes a wide array of characters, nearly all of whom prove either gleefully immoral or just plain dumb. The convoluted plot is set in motion when the aforementioned cop, Will (Himesh Patel), responds to an emergency call and nearly shoots a woman (Traci Lords, giving you an idea of the film’s irreverence) simply going about her business in her kitchen.

“I would like it to become an irrelevant documentary in five years’ time,” says Blair Young, whose film with fellow Scot Carla J. Easton will close the Edinburgh International Film Festival Wednesday night.
Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland’s Girl Bands was selected as the fest’s closing night feature. It is, quite simply, a love letter to music made by Scottish women. From the ’60s until the present day, the doc follows visionary artists — many whose tales are lost to history — who emerged through Scotland’s music scene and attempted to break the glass ceiling.
The doc is vibrant and celebratory, but is often also a bleak look at how men have continued to dominate the industry and the blasé nature in which they harassed women for much of the 20th century.
Young hopes the film will one day serve as a reminder of how things used to be.

British drama series Lost Boys & Fairies has won the Seriencamp Official Competition Award here in Cologne.
The BBC series, which is from Duck Soup Films and sold internationally by All3Media International, is billed as “tender, glittering story of gay couple Gabriel and Andy’s journey to adoption, filled with humour, music, redemption and love.”
Starring Sion Daniel Young (Slow Horses) and Fra Fee (Rebel Moon), it follows Gabriel and Andy, who long to adopt a child and to do so they must convince their social worker Jackie (Elizabeth Berrington) that they’re up to the task. However, Gabe masks demons: the effects of decades of shame having grown up in a society that overwhelmingly treated being gay as a sin.
Welsh playwright Daf James was on the ground to collect the award, which was part of the Seriencamp Conference and Festival Awards Ceremony earlier today. Lost Boys and Fairies was his debut TV project.

In 1967, The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein died unexpectedly. His death shocked the band and forced them to accept further responsibility for the group’s management. According to those around The Beatles, this was not a good thing. After Epstein’s death, they began making a series of terrible decisions that felt incredibly “juvenile.”

David Puttnam worked as a photographer’s agent when he met The Beatles. He was friendly with the band, but he recalled feeling disappointed with their decisions in the period after Epstein’s death.

The Beatles are undoubtedly one of the most influential bands of all time, ushering in a new age of rock and all in the 60s. While their tenure may have only lasted 10 years, their rich discography has impacted fans to this day, Their songs are still a large part of the zeitgeist, especially in the evolution of the genre and modern artists being inspired by them.

The second episode of the newly relaunched Doctor Who is a haunting, contemplative story about what might happen if the world was robbed of its love of music. Like all good Who sci-fi premises, “The Devil’s Chord” takes something that is a given about human nature, and suggests our experience of life might be totally different without that thing. Just like “Blink” made us worry about trying to control our inherent reflex to bat our eyes, “The Devil’s Chord” makes us worried about how depressing and dystopian things would become without being able to hear a tune.
The episode also features a bootleg version of The Beatles, which should be a slam-dunk for Doctor Who, but isn’t. Instead, in creating a timey-wimey story about the death of music in a bizarro timeline, Who makes some blunders about why The Beatles became The Beatles.

It almost seems like a common phenomenon that audiences see scenes in a movie trailer that don’t actually appear in the final movie. Sometimes, in the case of CGI-laden blockbusters, they can alter the location of a scene from a trailer to another location in the final cut of the film. Sometimes, even a hint of a subplot from a trailer can be cut from the movie altogether. This is what has seemingly happened with the Beatles-themed comedy Yesterday from Danny Boyle. The trailer for Yesterday featured a scene where Ana De Armas was presumably making a cameo, as she does not appear on the cast list for the movie.
Universal was sued by Peter Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe, viewers who had seen De Armas in the trailer and thought she would be a prominent part of the film, except her appearance winded up getting cut from the movie.

A lawsuit between Universal and two men who rented Yesterday and accused the studio of tricking fans into watching the film by featuring Ana de Armas in trailers when she didn’t actually appear in the movie has settled.
Attorneys for both sides on Friday informed the court of a settlement to resolve the case. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
The lawsuit, filed in 2022, revolved around accusations from Peter Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe that they watched the trailer for Yesterday and thought that de Armas played a substantial role in the romantic comedy about an artist who rockets to fame after discovering that he’s the only person in the world to remember The Beatles, which allows him to pass their songs off as his own. But upon renting it, they learned that she doesn’t appear in the movie. They brought claims for false advertisement, unjust enrichment and unfair competition.

Chrisley Knows Best alum, Grayson Chrisley isn’t a small boy with braces anymore and he just celebrated a special event, but sadly, without his mom and dad there. Of course, USA Network fans are well aware that they are currently serving time in prison for tax and fraud-related offenses. Certainly, it’s been tough on their youngest son, who feels their separation deeply.
Grayson Chrisley Was Playing Little League Just Yesterday, Right?
Fans of the Chrisley Knows Best show always had a soft spot for Chase and Savannah Chrisley’s little brother. His smile, his quiet humor, and his obvious love for his mom and dad endeared a lot of people. While lots of people condemn Todd and Julie for their crimes, not as many people slam their boy. He’s grown up so fast, that people couldn’t believe their eyes when he celebrated a special event recently.

Yesterday, all their troubles seemed so far away.
In 2022, Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe sued Universal Pictures after they rented the 2019 movie “Yesterday” on Amazon Prime Video and subsequently felt they had been bamboozled by the trailer. The film, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis, is a zany musical fantasy in which Himesh Patel, a struggling musician, is bonked on the head and wakes up in a world in which The Beatles Never Happened. As such, he starts playing their songs as if they are his own and the movie follows the expected Preston Sturges-like tropes you might expect.
The trailer for the movie featured quite a few glimpses of the alluring Cuban-born actress Ana de Armas, later Oscar-nominated for her leading turn in “Blonde,” who ended up not being in the movie at all. An early cut included her character, but that storyline was shaved down after the movie tested poorly.

Two fans of Ana de Armas finally settled their lawsuit over the Yesterday debacle.
Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe rented the 2019 movie Yesterday on Amazon Prime after seeing the 35-year-old actress in the trailer, however, she did not appear in the final cut of the movie.
The two men then sued Universal Pictures for false advertisement, claiming that they were each cheated out of $3.99.
Keep reading to find out more…At first, a federal judge sided with the fans, ruling that studios can be sued over false advertising in movie trailers. In August 2023, the lawsuit was dismissed after a judge said that the fans “can’t pursue the proposed class action because they didn’t rely on alleged misrepresentations from the studio when making the decision to watch the film.”
This then left the fans owing $126,705 in legal fees incurred by Universal.

Two men who rented “Yesterday” on Amazon Prime after seeing Ana de Armas in the trailer, only to discover that her role was removed in the final cut of the film, have settled their false advertising lawsuit.
Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe sued Universal in 2022, alleging that they were each cheated out of $3.99. A federal judge initially sided with them, finding that movie trailers are not immune from false advertising claims. But various setbacks followed, leaving the men on the hook for $126,705 in Universal legal fees.
On Friday, they accepted a settlement that will resolve the case. The terms were not disclosed and neither side responded to a request for comment. On April 18, the parties revealed that both sides will get nothing.
From the evidence of court filings, nobody is happy with the outcome. Universal believes it was forced to spend two years and hundreds of thousands of dollars defending a patently frivolous lawsuit.

Here comes another time-traveling fantasy, but with a twist. As the kids on Bandstand used to say to Dick Clark, “It’s a gotta’ good beat. You can dance to it”. Maybe you could even do the twist. That’s because the force to send this story back through the decades isn’t a big machine, like the one H.G. Welles conjured or even the beloved DeLorean that Doc Brown modified. Nor is it hypnosis ala’ Somewhere In Time, though the brain is involved along with…the ears. You see the gimmick here is music, specifically certain pop tunes that propel a twenty-something woman into the past. And just what is she doing six or seven years ago? Making “sure bet” investments perhaps? No, she’s trying to save a “lost love”, so this is really a romantic fantasy with a soundtrack that’s this couple’s take on...

Nia DaCosta is in talks to direct the second part of the upcoming “28 Years Later” trilogy from Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.
Previously, she directed and co-wrote “The Marvels” starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani, and “Candyman,” a contemporary spiritual sequel of the 1992 cult horror classic of the same name for Universal and Monkeypaw Productions.
“Candyman” opened to No. 1 at the box office, making DaCosta the first Black female director to open at the top of U.S. box office charts. DaCosta made her feature debut with the critically acclaimed “Little Woods,” which she wrote and directed.
