Miller’s direction chases New Nightmare and Scream 3 highs by seeking inspiration from supposed haunted productions like The Exorcist and Poltergeist, but behind-the-scenes perspectives are frequently and confusingly dropped like a hot potato. The Exorcism fails the prospect of a bible-verse-chanting exorcism on a horror film set, spiraling from mundanity into a third act that abandons conceptual intrigue for the most forgettable finale imaginable.

I wasn’t going to review A Creature Was Stirring. After The Sacrifice Game, There’s Something in the Barn, Nightmare on 34th Street and Santa Isn’t Real, I was pretty well played out on Christmas horror films. But then I noticed it was directed by Damien LeVeck whose other feature was The Cleansing Hour, one of the better recent paranormal investigator films., based on that I decided to give it a look.

“We just have to keep this up until it breaks” Faith tells her daughter Charm, only to be met with the reply “The blizzard or me?” Looking at the assortment of syringes, pills and a rectal thermometer laid out on the kitchen counter that response seemed anything but snarky.

The differences between Damien LeVeck’s sophomore effort A Creature Was Stirring and his feature debut The Cleansing Hour are staggering. His instincts are ironclad in the cleanly polished and despicable exorcism thriller that stands as one of Shudder’s best original releases in 2020. Unfortunately, A Creature Was Stirring doesn’t replicate the same accomplished approach as an ambitious yet scattershot blast of subgenres. Psychological chills, creature thrills, and family dysfunction become this unfocused commentary on the looming specter of addiction. LeVeck takes risk after risk — the filmmaker’s fearlessness should not be ignored — but there’s a befuddling all-over-the-place-ness that does not play into the film’s favor.

Green Bank gets its name from a real West Virginia town that’s located within the National Radio Quiet Zone, which is centered between the Green Bank Observatory and the Sugar Grove Station. Radio transmissions are restricted by law in this area “to facilitate scientific research and the gathering of military intelligence.” Cell phone use is restricted in the area, and the use of Wi-Fi routers and microwave ovens is also discouraged.

The project is called "Green Bank," and both performers are slated to have leading roles. With fans eagerly anticipating the US release of Terrifier 2, Catherine Corcoran of the cult favorite slasher Terrifier has signed on to star in the horror film Do Not Watch, Deadline reported.

She will star alongside Ezekiel Ajeigbe (The Giant), Alix Angelis (The Cleansing Hour), and Ella Cannon (Trees of Peace).

The story is said to dig into “a decades-spanning mystery revolving around an unexplained phenomenon known as The Bunker Anomaly.”

As I watched 9 Bullets the plot seemed overly familiar, it wasn’t billed as a remake of anything but it seemed very familiar. Then it hit me, Gloria, a film John Cassavetes made in 1980, and remade by Sidney Lumet in 1999. Both involve a tough woman who has to go on the run with a young boy wanted by the mobsters who killed his parents. In Gloria he has a book with incriminating information, in this film, it’s a laptop. In both films, the mob boss is her ex and as a name, Gypsy isn’t that far from Gloria either.

I wasn’t surprised to see that it was one of a slew of films writer/director Gigi Gaston cited as an influence on 9 Bullets.

Amazon’s Prime Video has greenlit its first TV show based on the iconic British spy with “007’s Road to a Million,” a Bond-style spin on a race around the world.

The eight-part series will be produced by Britain’s 72 Films and Bond guardians and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, along with MGM Television.

Sources tell Variety that the project has been in the works at Prime Video for around four years, long before the MGM deal was finalized, and it sits separately to any shows that are yet to come out of the pact. The e-commerce giant closed its $8.5 billion deal for MGM last week, with the James Bond franchise believed to be a powerful driving force behind the acquisition.

Amazon Prime Video has launched a £10 million ($13 million) industry training initiative in the U.K.

Titled Prime Video Pathway, the initiative has been built into Prime’s U.K. original productions such as “The Devil’s Hour,” “The Rig” and “Mammals” with the aim of making the creative industries more accessible. The streamer has committed to spending over $13 million over three years on the scheme.

As part of the initiative, Prime Video will also partner with the U.K. National Film and Television School to deliver a craft and technical training academy program (as well as potential employment opportunities) to over 250 students over three years.

Among the roles students will be trained in are those in production, art department, locations, camera, sound and accounting. Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video is investing £10m across three years in a new training initiative, titled Prime Video Pathway, to open up jobs in the UK film and TV industry.

Amazon Prime Video has struck a long-term deal with Pinewood Group’s Shepperton Studios, for exclusive use of new production facilities at the Surrey studios for future TV series and film productions.

The facilities will comprise of nine sound stages, workshops and office accommodation, totalling approximately 450,000ft2, and forming part of the wider redevelopment and expansion of Shepperton Studios, which will deliver approximately 1.2 million ft2 of new studio space.

The Guardian reported the site will be leased to Amazon Prime Video for well over 10 years.

Amazon Prime Video has signed a multimillion pound deal with Pinewood’s Shepperton Studios to take facilities for the next decade, and will therefore be producing projects next door to Netflix.

The deal includes around 450,000 square feet of space including nine sound stages, workshops and office accommodation, forming part of a wider expansion at Shepperton that will deliver around 1.2M square feet of new space for the Surrey studio, which has been home to hits from Alien to Mary Poppins Returns. Netflix is in the process of doubling its own Shepperton space, from where it has made the likes of Enola Holmes and The Old Guard.

The move comes as Amazon gets set to launch a record number of UK originals over the next two years, including Hartswood Films’ The Devil’s Hour, grime/drill music drama Jungle and Martin Compston-starring The Rig.

Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s “Lord of the Rings,” which grabbed international headlines when the streaming player moved locations from New Zealand to the U.K., has set its first filming locations. The move — which was a major upset for the New Zealand production sector — is especially momentous given the U.K relocation marks the first time any of the modern “Lord of the Rings” live-action, on-screen projects have been produced outside of New Zealand, including “The Hobbit” trilogy.

Sources close to production say Bray Film Studios and Bovingdon Airfield will be the initial production facilities used to film the big-budget series. Pre-production is set to begin in the second quarter of 2022.
