FilmNation and Charades are teaming up to present “Alpha,” the new film from Julia Ducournau, to buyers at Cannes.
It’s the same place where Ducournau caused a sensation with 2021’s “Titane,” her subversive and divisive body horror film, which won the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top award. Ducournau became the second female director to win the award, following Jane Campion (“The Piano”). “Anatomy of a Fall” director Justine Triet would become the third female winner in 2023. Ducournau’s other films include 2016’s “Raw,” a coming-of-age film about a young vegetarian who develops a taste for cannibalism.
“Alpha’s” cast includes Golshifteh Farahani, who appeared in “The Patience Stone” and “Paterson,” as well as César award-winning Tahar Rahim, best known for his work in “The Mauritanian,” “A Prophet” and “The Serpent.”

2024 is going to be light on superhero movies (relatively speaking) but comic book cinema will be present on the big screen on Valentine's Day. Sony's latest "Spider-Man" spin-off movie "Madame Web" is hitting theaters, introducing several brand new spider-heroes into the ever-growing Marvel multiverse.
Following in the footsteps of movies like "Venom" and "Morbius," as well as this year's "Kraven the Hunter," Sony is once again making the most of the Marvel Comics characters it has the rights to in the larger "Spider-Man" franchise. Specifically, it sees Dakota Johnson bring Cassandra Web, aka Madame Webb, to life alongside an impressive supporting cast.
But is this a one-and-done? Or is the studio setting up more for the future? We're going to discuss the movie's post-credits scene situation in spoiler-free fashion. Seriously, we're not going to spoil anything. We're just here to arm you with information so you can be ready on opening weekend.

Prime Video’s new thriller series Wilderness is already making a splash by having a truly great bop as its theme tune in Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, but there’s much more to enjoy here than that. Prime Video has released its “Red White & Royal Blue” film, based on Casey McQuiston’s novel, and viewers are in store for some great twists on romantic comedy tropes and foreign relations.
McQuiston’s novel follows Alex Claremont Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), son of the first woman to become president of the United States (Uma Thurman) as he butts heads with Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) constantly, which gets them both into trouble. The president sent her son to the royal wedding with only one operative: Do not cause a scene. But apparently, he caused a big enough commotion to take the cake — literally a large wedding cake toppled onto Alex and Henry after an altercation on the dance floor. Smoothing things over, at least in a famous fake friendship kind of way, the boys strike up an actual relationship, romantic and all.

Netflix has released first-look images of limited series “The Leopard,” based on the classic Sicily-set novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa that marks the streamer’s most ambitious Italian original to date.
Production on the lavish historical tapestry with elements comparable to “Downton Abbey” or “The Crown” – and potential to make a global mark – is currently underway in the Sicilian cities of Palermo, Syracuse and Catania. The show is a modern take on the sensual Sicilian saga famously adapted into a film by Luchino Visconti starring Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon and Burt Lancaster. The movie, now an Italian cinema classic, won the 1963 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Published posthumously in 1958, “The Leopard” chronicles the changes in Sicilian life and society during the 19th century unification of Italy, known as the Risorgimento. It became the top-selling novel in modern Italian literature of its day and was translated into more than 40 different languages.

There’s probably a clever German word invented to describe the increasingly common and frustrating act of spending an entire evening indecisively flicking through Netflix arguing about what to watch before just giving up and going to bed. The streaming giant has over 7,000 titles on its UK version alone, so you can be forgiven for feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all, and its recent tendency to cancel beloved Netflix Originals – some would say too soon – can leave you wondering where best to commit your time.

Following a premiere at Sundance 2023, where Netflix picked up the psychological horror film for an undisclosed sum, the streaming service has set a June 28 release date and unveiled the first trailer for "Run Rabbit Run." With Sarah Snook ("Succession") in the lead, Australian director Daina Reid's second feature film is about a single mother and fertility doctor named Sarah (Snook) who is shaken by her 7-year-old daughter Mia's (Lily Latorre) strange behavior and "inexplicable memories of a past identity."
The connection, as the "Run Rabbit Run" trailer reveals, is Sarah's late sister Alice who had an interest in wild rabbits and went missing when she was just seven years old. Mia turns out to have both things in common with Alice when she takes a liking to a rabbit that appears on their doorstep. You know where this is going, right? "Iron Man" was released exactly 15 years ago today, meaning that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a decade and a half hold. But rewinding the clocks to that fateful summer, nobody was using the words "cinematic universe" yet, and most of the superheroes that have dominated the blockbuster space for years nowhere near as well-known to the general public. But thanks to that famous post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury wanting to talk to Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative, it sure seemed like Marvel had it all planned from the start. Well, they didn't really know what was yet to come, and as evidence of that, Jackson very well could have just ended up making a "Snakes on a Plane" reference instead. Yes, really.

On Sunday’s “Inside With Jen Psaki,” MSNBC host and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki took a moment to reflect on the week over at Fox News — particularly in its surprising and unceremonious firing of Tucker Carlson.
But while there continues to be speculation over what Rupert Murdoch’s decision came down to, it’s clear that Carlson’s absence hasn’t changed much of the problematic sentiment espoused on the network daily. Psaki argued that “explicit white nationalist views were never the total problem for the network” and that under Carlson, they even “endorsed all of that.” Now instead, hosts like Laura Ingraham are continuing to push that messaging.
“This is simply who they are,” Psaki said of Fox News.

Last year, “Succession” dominated this category with four of the six slots for guests Adrien Brody, James Cromwell, Arian Moayed, and Alexander Skarsgård. As of this writing, we anticipate both Cromwell and Moayed will be guest eligible — Moayed has already appeared in one Season 4 episode so far — while Skarsgård may appear in enough episodes to be deemed supporting. With the 2022 victor Colman Domingo (“Euphoria”) and nominee Tom Pelphrey (“Ozark”) ineligible, there will be at least three...

Netflix has revealed the cast for its limited series adaptation of Erin Hilderbrand’s “The Perfect Couple.”
Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber will play the Groom’s Mother Greer Garrison Winbury and the Groom’s Father Tag Winbury.
The logline for the show reads “Amelia Sacks is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket. Her disapproving future mother-in-law, famous novelist Greer Garrison Winbury, has spared no expense in planning what promises to be the premiere wedding of the season — until a body turns up on the beach. As secrets come to light, the stage is set for a real-life investigation that feels plucked from the pages of one of Greer’s novels. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect.”

Charles Sobhraj, the serial killer who became the subject of the series The Serpent, was released from jail back in December. Now that he has had time to settle into domestic life in Paris, Sobhraj has established himself as something a little less slippery than his nickname: a prolific author and spotlight hog.
Due to his age and health, Charles Sobhraj was released from a Nepali jail after spending nearly 20 years behind bars. Sobhraj was serving time for the murders of two people, although he has 12 confirmed murders, with estimates putting the potential number as high as 30. After his release, Charles Sobhraj moved to Paris. It’s there that he lives today, writing an autobiography called “Moi, le Serpent”, released in February. He has also marked himself as a talk show guest, appearing on a couple of French shows, evidently always with his lawyer nearby. A recent piece on Air Mail stated,...

Dominik Moll’s brooding procedural thriller “The Night of the 12th” won big at the 48th Cesar Awards Friday night in Paris.
Out of 10 nominations, “The Night of the 12th” picked up best film, director, male newcomer for Bastien Bouillon, supporting actor for Bouli Lanners, adapted screenplay and sound. Bouillon and Lanners star as two cops trying to solve the gruesome murder of a young woman. The film opened at Cannes in the Premieres section.
Caroline Benjo, who produced “The Night of the 12th” with Carole Scotta and Simon Arnal at Haut et Court, made a searing speech denouncing the violence against women. “When Dominic and Gilles came to us to make this film it was obvious that we (needed to address this issue) and that the perspective of men on this matter was crucial, and that filmmakers had to tell this story,” said Benjo. “A few days ago, Dominic...

The Bachelor Zach Shallcross had a rough week five, which culminated in a not-so-great rose ceremony. Zach’s journey had been going relatively smoothly. There was no standout “villain,” not much fighting, and The Bachelor was forming connections with some of the women.

Unfortunately, Zach ended up with coronavirus (Covid-19) in London, after a very romantic date with Gabi. The group date was canceled, and the “cocktail party” and rose ceremony were done over Zoom.
The most awkward rose ceremony in ‘Bachelor’ history?
The first baffling thing that happened was when Jesse Palmer revealed to the women that their collective boyfriend came down with Covid-19 and didn’t suggest any of them get tested, especially Gabi, who had just spent the day with Zach.
Because The Bachelor wanted to spend time with the contestants, they had a virtual cocktail party where he...
