After a nearly six-month search that featured thousands of candidates, newcomers Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden now find themselves squarely in the spotlight after they officially made their debut as the voices of the narcissistic, alcoholic genius Rick (Ian Cardoni) and his bumbling grandson Morty (Harry Belden), respectively, in the season seven premiere of the Adult Swim animated hit.
Sunday’s premiere marked the first episode of Rick and Morty without co-creator Justin Roiland, who until now had voiced both characters (among others) for all of the show’s 61 previous episodes. Roiland was fired from the cult hit and saw his Hollywood empire implode after allegations of domestic violence surfaced and reports, including in The Hollywood Reporter, uncovered years of his allegedly troubling behavior. An Orange County District Attorney dismissed the domestic violence charges, citing insufficient evidence, and has also denied new allegations of misconduct that range from sexual harassment to sexual assault.

Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer’s comedy will not be moving forward at ABC and is being shopped elsewhere. The straight-to-series order, which also had Alec Mapa attached to star, was scrapped after network executives saw the completed pilot episode, directed by James Burrows. ABC had been lining up the half-hour series for the 2021-22 season.
Per the logline, the untitled multi-camera series revolves around three men who were roommates in their 20s until their warring egos drove them apart. Now, the trio is reuniting decades later for one more run at the lives they’ve always wanted.
The series will mark Baldwin’s first major broadcast role since “30 Rock.” Grammer, most known for his roles in “Frasier” and “Cheers,” had most recently appeared in an episode of the CBS comedy “Carol’s Second Act,” after starring in the 2019 Fox legal drama “Proven Innocent,” which was canceled after only a single season.

Exclusive: Brittany Adebumola (Grand Army), Jaye Ladymore (The Chi) and Amarr Wooten (Colin in Black & White) are set as series regulars in 4400 (fka The 4400), the CW’s reimagining of the 2004 USA Network sci-fi drama series.
4400 hails from Riverdale co-executive producer Ariana Jackson and Anna Fricke, who successfully rebooted Walker, Texas Ranger for the CW.
In the new version, 4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people — two of them played by Joseph David-Jones and Khailah Johnson — who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few…upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.

The long-rumored Frasier revival might actually be made.
TV Line is reporting that the revival has landed at Paramount+, the new name given to CBS All Access when it completes its reboot in the coming weeks.
The good news is that Kelsey Grammer would be returning as Dr. Frasier Crane should the stars align and the project gets a formal pickup.
The outlet stressed, however, that CBS TV Studios did not comment on the project, likely meaning that it is in very preliminary negotiations.
For this reason alone, the revival might not come to pass on Paramount+. There are a lot of considerations when bringing a beloved IP back from, well, the dead.
Contracts have to be signed, and the streamer will want to make sure the project will fit with its brand and, of course, budget.
Revivals that bring back the original cast are typically more expensive than your usual TV shows.

We're running down our favorite shows of the decade! In addition to our favorite action/adventure series and favorite procedurals, and relationship-focused programming, and supernatural series! Now, let's take a look at limited/anthology series!
Here is a reminder that we have almost two dozen favorites lists, and since we couldn't showcase every show on every list, we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.
And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!
To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

“The Parent Trap” star Elaine Hendrix has joined the cast of The CW’s “Dynasty” reboot as the new Alexis Carrington, a spokesperson for the network confirmed to TheWrap. According to the showrunner, “Alexis is back in Atlanta, with a new look, a new man, and plenty of scores to settle.”
Hendrix will play Carrington as a series regular on the show, which is currently airing its third season. She replaces Nicollette Sheridan, who played Carrington in seasons one and two of the reboot. Sheridan exited the soap opera to “focus on some personal family responsibilities,” the network and CBS Studios told TheWrap in February.
After Sheridan’s departure, Elizabeth Gillies, who also plays Carrington’s daughter Fallon, briefly took over the role.

Lee Daniels’ Fox music drama “Empire” will be entering its sixth and final season later this year. The broadcast network announced in May the final season for one of its flagship series, but “Empire” was hardly the only Fox series featuring black leads that got the plug pulled. Nearly every Fox series with a black lead got canceled, including Daniels’ “Star,” the Damon Wayans-led “Lethal Weapon,” Lil’ Rel Howery’s “Rel,” the Russell Hornsby-starring drama “Proven Innocent,” and the David Alan Grier comedy “The Cool Kids.” Daniels recently told Vulture he’s troubled by what all the cancellations have in common.
“Clearly, there’s obvious stuff going on,” Daniels said when asked about Fox dropping the ax on its original series with black leads. “I think it’s very obvious. I was disturbed by it. But I don’t think ‘Empire’ had anything to do with [a possible whitewashing of the network]. ‘Empire’ sort of...

At the Upfronts earlier this month, a spate of freshman and sophomore series led by actors of color that were initially greenlit seemingly in order to address broadcast TV’s representation problem were canceled, including “The Passage,” “The Fix” and “Happy Together.” This caused some initial concern that networks may not be as enthusiastic about ongoing attempts at diversity, but as Fall 2019 new series orders were unveiled, the picture proved to be more assuring.
As broadcast TV networks set their 2019-2020 programming lineups, diversity concerns still very much remain at the fore, as Hollywood overall continues to be under pressure to address its historical erasure of characters of color in front of and behind the camera. TV continues to outpace film in both regards, with recent improvement on how voices and stories from all walks of life are embraced within the space.

Riley Smith is returning to the CW with a lead role opposite Kennedy McMann in the network’s new drama series Nancy Drew, from CBS TV Studios and Fake Empire. Smith had been quietly cast as a series regular in the pilot in second position to his Fox drama series Proven Innocent. He became officially available when Fox canceled the legal drama this past weekend.
Written by Noga Landau, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and directed by Larry Teng, Nancy Drew centers on 18-year-old Nancy Drew (McMann) and is set in the summer after her high school graduation. She thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a socialite is murdered, Nancy finds herself a prime suspect in the crime, along with a group of other teens present at the scene.

Fox chief Charlie Collier has addressed the challenge of diversity at the network following the cancellation of a number of shows with African American leads.
Collier, speaking on the Fox upfronts press call, said that the “effort continues, it never stops”.
This comes after Fox cancelled shows including Lethal Weapon, Lil Rel Howery-fronted Rel from Jerrod Carmichael, Russell Hornsby-fronted legal drama Proven Innocent from Danny Strong and Stacy Greenberg, David Alan Grier-fronted comedy The Cool Kids, and Lee Daniels’ Star, which is ending after three seasons.
Fox revealed that Empire is also ending after its forthcoming sixth season.
Collier said, “The diversity of Fox is an issue that is so important and an ongoing effort for us to make sure we’re best in class. As I was looking at Fox and joining, what’s remarkable is that the history of this company and what it’s done in terms of diversity…...

The reign of Empire on Fox is coming to an end next year. Just two weeks after the Charlie Collier-run Fox Entertainment renewed Lee Daniels and Danny Strong’s hip hop drama for a sixth season and guided Jussie Smollett toward the exit door, it was announced Monday during Fox’s pre-upfront call that the self-described “groundbreaking cultural phenomenon” will be canceled once Season 6 is done next year.
“We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing,” Collier said on the call of Empire‘s last season, which will be 20 episodes. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.”
Questioned about the possibility that the legally challenged Smollett could return for the final season, Collier dodged and replied with language reminiscent of last month’s press release. “There’s an option to have Jussie in...
