Les ingredients etaient la...pour une belle recette. Cependant, le fil de l'histoire etait facile a perdre...dommage. Les performances nous gardent interesse jusqu'a la fin...maid je m'attendais a beaucoup plus.

First, this is an extremely witty script in English, but even more so in French - I'd say the wit in English is about 75% of that in French.
But, fortunately, the excellent cast of characters all have wonderful talent for expressing their roles through their facial expressions, the tone of their voices, even slap stick body language.
The storyline is classic French - the satirically humorous trials of fine French bourgeoise marriage - the insecurities of the middle age men, the insecurities of the middle age women, the disrupting spice of a young nubile mistress - and all over a fine dinner of interminable French wines and haute cuisine.
Really a very entertaining performance - for grown-ups with grown-ups appreciation of the grown-up problems of sustaining a grown-up partnership.
Tres bien! :-)

2 men's midlife crisis, packaged in a frivolous French comedy, with terrific actors. but the story is lacking in drama, spark and punch.
The good: the actors. It's always a joy to see Gerard Depardieu perform in a new movie, but he has only got a smaller supporting role this time. Daniel Auteuil is the leading actor and he even directed this movie, in which he is constantly daydreaming about having a secret affair with a young gorgeous woman. The movie basically is nothing else but lovey dovey fantasies of an old man about a gorgeous young woman.
The bad: there is nothing else but these old man's fantasies about a young woman. These fantasies in particular are never shocking, nor intensely erotic, not even original. Therefore this story lacks punch and spark and I got a bit bored after an hour of these old man's lovey dovey fantasies.
This is still a nice French lighthearted comedy about adultery, but only because of the great actors. There are better French adultery comedies out there though, so I wont recommend this one. It's not bad, simply a bit tedious to watch after an hour, because there is no real drama, no real suspense, It's all lovey dovey nice-ish, but simultaneously also a bit boring...
