Movies directed by James Cameron are the closest Hollywood studios will ever come to finding a sure thing. Cameron has spent over 40 years directing blockbusters, and the man simply does not miss at the box office. His unique command of spectacle and ongoing commitment to technological innovation have allowed him to craft a seemingly endless string of hits, and he has consistently been able to pull rabbits out of his hat on even the riskiest film projects.
Cameron launched his career in 1984 with “The Terminator,” a groundbreaking sci-fi blockbuster that turned Arnold Schwarzenegger into a bona fide movie star. From there, he dipped his toe into Ridley Scott’s sandbox to direct “Aliens,” which quickly became regarded as one of the best sequels of all time. Cameron never lost his knack for sequels, and his decision to blow up his original premise turned “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” into an instant classic.

On today’s The Arrow In The Head Show, Lance Vlcek and John “The Arrow” Fallon take on the little seen yet highly entertaining Raw Deal (1986) starring the inimitable Arnold Schwarzenegger at his smug best. After Conan, The Terminator, Red Sonja and Commando – Arnie took on a very different kind of role at this point in his career and showcased glimpses of the charm and gravitas that he would eventually fully display in films like True Lies and Kindergarden Cop.
The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harrold, Robert Davi and Paul Shenar and is about:
A former FBI agent turned small-town sheriff agrees to help the FBI chief infiltrate the Chicago mafia when the FBI chief’s son is killed by them.
The M.O. of The Arrow in the Head Show is: After many years behind the scenes, we’ve decided to take our sarcastic, booze-influenced style into the...

With Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Fubar topping the Netflix Top 10 for two weeks, it’s no surprise that the series has gotten a brisk season 2 renewal. The announcement was made at Netflix’s Tudum event, which featured an appearance by the man himself. While the show has gotten mixed reviews (even from our own critic), the numbers don’t lie, and it’s good to see Arnold return to prominence, between this and a very good three-part documentary series the streamer just released.
In the series, Arnold stars as a secret agent who discovers that his daughter (played by Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro) is also an agent. The two team up to take on an arms dealer, bonding along the way over their shared love of carnage. In addition to announcing the second season, Netflix, who’ve gone all-in on Arnold, dropped a blooper reel, revealing the Austrian Oak...

Well, we can file this one under the least surprising TV news of the year.
Netflix has confirmed it is staying in business with Arnold Schwarzenegger with the pickup of Fubar Season 2.
The series got off the ground running for the streaming service in May, vaulting to the #1 spot in the weekly Netflix Top 10.
Any project featuring the Terminator alum will perform well, and it's because he's a global star.
Fubar reached the Top 10 in 90 countries worldwide, solidifying its renewal after a decent reaction to the episodes from viewers.
It's unclear when Fubar season 2 will actually premiere, but it probably won't be in production in the near future.
The WGA strike will delay several projects, so the writing won't resume until a fair deal is reached.
Netflix confirmed Fubar's fate during the Tudum Global Fan Event, which also included an Elite Season 7 premiere date, a Witcher Sneak Peek, and so much more.

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.
2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. The last remaining 2022 contender, “Ozark,” officially finished its four-season run last April. Also back in the running are former winners “The Handmaid’s Tale” (2017) and “The Crown” (2021).

When Netflix’s “Extraction” premiered in 2020, its elaborately constructed set pieces propelled it to become the streaming service’s most-watched original film to that point and marked director Sam Hargrave as a talent to watch. Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth now return to the adventures of Australian black ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) for “Extraction 2,” a sequel that improves upon its predecessor in just about every way without losing sight of what audiences loved about the first movie. The action is bigger, the motivations more personal and affecting, and Hargrave’s command of his craft more assured.
Hargrave is part of one of the most positive trends in action filmmaking in recent years: The rise of directors with a background in stunts. The most famous examples are Chad Stahelski (the “John Wick” franchise) and David Leitch, who follow in the footsteps of ’70s and ’80s pioneers Hal Needham (“Smokey and the Bandit...

Exclusive: Fresh off the series finale of CBS’ True Lies, Omar Miller has entered production in Italy on Naples to New York, an indie based on a story penned in the 1940s by a young Federico Fellini, who was not yet a filmmaker, and his longtime friend and collaborator Tullio Pinelli.
Set in 1949, this is a story of two children who set off on a journey across the ocean, as stowaways on a ship, looking for a family and opportunity in America. Along the way, they encounter characters both well-meaning and nefarious, who cement their faith in humanity. Miller plays George, an American cook on an international merchant ship who befriends our two young Italian stowaways. He’s a gentle giant with great comedic timing, and a strong sense of humanity.
Gabriele Salvatores is directing from his own script, with Paco Cinematografica, Isabella Cocuzza and Arturo Paglia serving as exec producers.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was riding high throughout the ’80s and early ’90s with hit after hit like Predator, Twins, Total Recall, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, but he had his first big box-office flop with Last Action Hero in 1993, an experience which upset him greatly.
Last Action Hero followed a young movie fan who received a magical movie ticket that transported him into the world of Jack Slater, a fictional action movie hero played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was a fun concept, but the film was a critical and box-office disappointment with a domestic gross of $50 million. In Netflix’s recent three-part docuseries Arnold, the actor recalled how the failure of the movie affected him. “When Last Action Hero came out I had reached my peak after Terminator 2, having the most successful movie of the year worldwide, I cannot tell you how upset that I was [about the negative Last Action Hero reviews],” Schwarzenegger said.

When the man himself says the words “Always Hungry,” talking about the film that gave him his huge Hollywood career, all I could think about after finishing the series were those exact words. The bodybuilder, actor, and politician Schwarzenegger, the Austrian immigrant who made it big in America after being raised in a not-so-healthy environment post-World War II as a child, has less emotion and more drive to sell. In his own words, everything is about selling, and that’s potentially what he’s doing through the Netflix docuseries Arnold. Moreover, it seems like all the series really wants to show us is the successful “American Dream.”
From the beginning of the series, we hear Arnold giddily narrate his dream to move to America after being brought up in a violent home environment in a small town called Thal in Austria. His childhood was rather competitive, and because of this,...

Bodybuilder, actor, and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has crammed a whole lot of living into his 75 years on this planet — more living than could possibly be contained in a single documentary. Netflix's "Arnold" tells the story of Schwarzenegger in three hour-long episodes, following his life chronologically and his ascent through three separate careers. The intimate series uses interviews with those close to Arnold, but focuses most on Arnold himself, creating a documentary that feels something like an autobiography. This is Arnold on Arnold, and though it celebrates his successes and tries to paint him in a positive light, the series also doesn't shy away from his failures. Schwarzenegger faces his "f***-ups" head-on and is surprisingly candid; some audiences will find it to be too little, too late, but this reviewer was won over by what seems like a genuine desire for personal accountability.

Daniel Fienberg: It’s hard to tell the story of Spring TV in 2023 without discussing HBO’s Succession and Barry, as well as Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso. Those three shows, two definitely finished and one seemingly coming to an end, represented four of the last six Emmy wins for outstanding drama and comedy series, as well as many nominations for acting, writing and directing. With their shocking deaths, wild deviations in tone and, in the case of Ted Lasso, expanded episode running times, they’ve dominated social media and water cooler conversations since March.
That’s why we’re not going to focus on them here. There’s more to TV than Barry, Succession and Ted Lasso — or at least HBO and Apple hope there is after the upcoming awards season concludes.
Even not counting the holy trinity of the spring, there were buzzy returning shows — Fxx’s Dave!

Suffice it to say — he’s back. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the action star of the 80s and 90s who needs no introduction, has been gearing up for a big year. The former Mr. Olympia was cheekily given the title of the Chief Action Officer over at the Netflix offices since the star has recently partnered up with the streamer for an in-depth documentary of his life and career titled simply Arnold, and recently, he’s made a return to action comedy with a series for Netflix, titled Fubar.
Arnold has had a series of underwhelming performances in theater-released films in the past decade, where his only real moneymakers were the Terminator sequels and Expendables films. Now, Variety is reporting that Schwarzenegger’s new show has planted a firm seat atop the Netflix Top 10 most-viewed TV titles in English on the platform. "He's ready to risk it all to protect his family... and save the world!" Ha! Dang this is pretty funny. Netflix has posted an amusing throwback action figure commercial promo video for the Fubar spy comedy action series. It just started streaming this past weekend (view here), and they're trying to build the buzz with some clever viral marketing stunts. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Fubar is a global spy adventure - when a father & daughter learn that they’ve each secretly been working as CIA Operatives for years, they realize their entire relationship has been a lie and they truly don’t know one another at all. It's pretty much a True Lies sequel. Fubar stars Arnold, along with Monica Barbaro, Milan Carter, Gabriel Luna, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Fabiana Udenio, Barbara Eve Harris, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, and Jay Baruchel. I'm smiling at how much they pack into this 90 second video,...

Plot: A CIA Operative on the verge of retirement discovers a family secret. Forced to go back into the field for one last job, the series tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action and humor.
Review: Over the six decades of his acting career, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been in comedies, dramas, action movies, and horror flicks, but until now, he has not starred in a television series. With streaming services now as robust as any movie studio, the biggest names in Hollywood have headlined their own small-screen shows. Schwarzenegger’s Netflix series Fubar tries to replicate the best elements of the iconic actor’s filmography by blending action and humor with some new blood in the form of Top Gun: Maverick star Monica Barbaro. Fubar aims high but feels barely more than a network television spy series that could have been so much better considering the talent involved.

On May 8th, avid stargazers eyeballing the cosmos were treated to a rare spectacle: the sight of a network reboot flaming out. CBS’s astonishingly ill-conceived adaptation of James Cameron’s “True Lies” premiered in March, concluded last week, and was unceremoniously canceled before the finale aired; “steady but low” isn’t the viewership the company hoped for. That’s what happens when you repackage IP without the people who made it a success, and bank on audience nostalgia for the title instead of the cast.

Venerable action megastar Arnold Schwarzenegger is back with "Fubar" on Netflix, his first-ever television series (read the /Film review here). With the cancellation of "True Lies" on CBS after just one season, the eight-episode run of "Fubar" will be the closest thing to a quasi-sequel to James Cameron's 1994 action comedy hybrid that starred Schwarzenegger as a covert agent who keeps his spy adventures a secret from his suburban wife and teenage daughter. In "Fubar," Schwarzenegger plays Luke Brunner, an aging CIA operative on the verge of retiring when he finds out his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) is also an undercover agent working on the same case.
In the series, the action takes a backseat to the relationship between Luke and Emma as they try to stay alive long enough to sort out their family issues and complete a mission that's suddenly grown a lot more complicated. "Fubar" could have...

The Arnold Schwarzenegger Netflix spy comedy “Fubar” starts out so unfettered by reality that it holds real promise.
Luke Brunner, the CIA operative played by Schwarzenegger, who is 75, is described as being 65. He is on the eve of retirement when they pull him back in to infiltrate the Guyana compound of arms dealer Boro (Gabriel Luna), a guy so brutal that he kills an associate on stage at an outdoor party and orders the blood-splattered band to keep playing.
Also in Guyana is Luke’s do-gooder daughter, Emma. Unbeknownst to her father, she is also a CIA operative and so deeply embedded in Boro’s world that she has become his favorite fight-club competitor.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger first announced his new TV series Fubar, he sold it as “another big action-comedy like True Lies.” There’s just one problem with that statement: True Lies was actually good. Fubar (now streaming on Netflix) tries to recapture Arnie’s glory days as an action movie hero with a big-budget, explosion-filled tale of international espionage. But based on the first three episodes, Fubar is unfortunately just a very pale True Lies imitation: a parade of meaningless violence and flaccid one-liners that pairs ludicrous action scenes with hacky comedy. It’s a mess — and not even an entertaining one,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in Fubar, a new Netflix series created by Nick Santora.
As the song says, time goes by. It’s inevitable and remembering past moments with James Cameron isn’t bad at all. On that occasion, it was with the great Jamie Lee Curtis, and now it is with the also great Monica Barbaro.
That movie, True Lies, was highly entertaining and spectacular. Fubar is not as entertaining, it has a different format, Mr. Pumpkin is a bit older, and times have changed, as the series insists on reminding us, in an amusing, if not brilliant, generational renewal.
But we like this gentleman and the series is, at least, enjoyable within its pretensions.

As the song says, time goes by. It’s inevitable and remembering past moments with James Cameron isn’t bad at all. On that occasion, it was with the great Jamie Lee Curtis, and now it is with the also great Monica Barbaro.

People love to talk about a new Golden Age of Television, where buzzwords like Peak TV get thrown around to describe any number of respected, popular, or critically acclaimed television shows. Certainly, there’s something to be said for the quality of a show like Mad Men or The Sopranos. Even more recent shows from the shared Vince Gilligan universe have their champions, with devoted fans extolling the virtues of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul long after the final episodes air.
It’s good stuff, to be sure, but it’s not really peak television. Everyone knows television peaked in the early to mid 1990s when a wave of first-run syndicated action adventure comedies propped up the mid-afternoon schedules of every local broadcast channel and basic cable outlet. Thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Netflix’s new series Fubar, it all might be coming back.

We’re at least a decade past the point at which seeing a so-called “movie star” deigning to grace the small screen could be conceived of as a novelty. Heck, we’re coming off a spring in which Harrison Ford was starring in multiple television shows at the same time.
Still, there’s an immediate pleasure that comes from witnessing former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger make a late arrival to the streaming landscape as the star of Netflix’s new action comedy Fubar.
Like his Planet Hollywood comrade Sylvester Stallone, currently getting to relive his Oscar and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot salad days on the Paramount+ dime, Schwarzenegger is using his streaming platform as something of a time machine.

It's easy to love Arnold Schwarzenegger. While no one would claim the Austrian Oak was an acting great with the range to slip in and out of any character, there's always been a distinct, lovable charm to Arnold. Despite his hulking, muscular frame, there's something downright cuddly about the body builder-turned-actor. We want to give him a hug, even when he's firing huge weapons at nameless bad guys.
While he occasionally plays cruel killers — see the first "Terminator" — he thrives in roles that let him have fun — see the second "Terminator." We can't help but love the guy, with his huge biceps, his thick accent, and the mischievous little twinkle he always has in his eye. When he utters the phrase "Trust me" with a sly little smile in "Terminator 2: Judgement Day," we do trust him. How can we not? He's Arnold!
All of this is to say that...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the two-part True Lies Season 1 finale, “Lying Truths” and “Waking Dreams.”] Following its May 9 cancellation, the Steve Howey and Ginger Gonzaga-led True Lies came to an end with a two-part series finale on Wednesday, May 17 on CBS. Unfortunately, the series wasn’t planning for the Season 1 finale to be its last, as indicated by its cliffhanger ending. The finale was one scene short of ending on a positive, drama-free note. In the first part of the finale, “Lying Truths,” a van full of computer software containing confidential intel about Omega Sector operatives was hijacked, leading the team to enlist the help of teen hacker Max to figure out who was coordinating the attack. When Harry (Howey) and Helen Tasker (Gonzaga) discovered that Max is dating their daughter, Dana (Annabella Didion), their actions put the mission in jeopardy. Amid the chaos, Helen had to admit to Dana that she and Harry were spies.

The Taskers turn their weapons on each other in the final True Lies ever, and though their marriage — and Omega Sector — is intact by the end of the hour, a seed of trouble is planted that would’ve really messed with the spies’ mission in Season 2.
Alas, we’ll never know exactly how things would’ve turned out; CBS cancelled the action dramedy in early May. So let’s check in with Harry, Helen, Luther, Maria and Gib for one last time as we review the highlights of the two-hour series finale, “Lying Truths/Waking Dream.”

It’s funny, as a child of the 90s, many peers of the same generation never once heard that the Arnold Schwarzenegger satirical send-up of action movies, Last Action Hero, was an unpopular flop. It was odd, sure. But it was fun. In a follow-up of yesterday’s report on Schwarzenegger’s candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the muscular icon responds to the newfound audience for the John McTiernan action comedy. Schwarzenegger was bombarded with criticism when the movie was released, but now he’s pleasantly surprised to see the reception coming around as he thinks it’s under-appreciated.
While he hit big with another action comedy, True Lies, just a year later, Arnold comes to Last Action Hero‘s defense when asked about what he feels is his most underrated role, even citing it as a victim in a political crossfire. He answered, “Last Action Hero. It was slaughtered before anybody saw it.

For those of you who've been clamoring for "True Lies 2" (i.e. Tom Arnold), the upcoming series "Fubar" is likely the closest you're going to get. Created by television veteran Nick Santora, the show stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a CIA operative who's been lying to his daughter about his profession for years. Turns out the familial duplicity is a two-way street, as his daughter (Monica Barbaro) has been fibbing about her work as a spy, too. When the father and daughter are assigned to work together, their relationship essentially begins anew. And, yes, Tom Arnold is along for the ride.
This is Schwarzenegger's first official TV endeavor, and, if nothing else, it's got a fun supporting cast in Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle (so good on "AP Bio"), and Scott Thompson. Phil Abraham ("The Sopranos" and "Mad Men") directed the pilot, which is also encouraging. But, really, we're here for the...

Fortunately, So Help Me Todd received an early season two renewal, so episode 21 is just the season finale and not the end of the series. The network’s other new dramas – True Lies and East New York – said goodbye after just one season, but So Help Me Todd‘s impressive ratings earned it a spot on CBS’s 2023-2024 primetime lineup.

Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden stars as Margaret Wright, Skylar Astin plays Todd Wright, and Tristen J. Winger is Lyle. Madeline Wise plays Allison, Inga Schlingmann is Susan, and Rosa Arredondo stars as Francey.

CBS is supersizing two of its signature reality franchises: “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” will permanently expand to 90-minute episodes next season, the network announced Thursday morning as it unveiled its 2023-2024 TV lineup.
The Eye network went first with its fall plans, but there’s a caveat to it all: The writers strike means it’s very likely that primetime won’t look at all like this come September. And indeed, CBS already has contingency plans in place, including several unscripted series waiting in the wings.
But for now, CBS will head into fall with a primetime schedule that looks nearly identical to its current one. The Wednesday switch to just “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” for example, simply takes the night’s current 10 p.m. inhabitant, the canceled “True Lies,” out of the equation. Last fall, CBS opened the season with three reality shows on the night: “Survivor,...

The Eye network on Tuesday evening, picked up two new dramas and a comedy for the 2023-24 season.

CBS has ordered three new series from this year’s crop of pilots.
The network has handed series orders to Matlock, starring Kathy Bates; The Good Wife spinoff Elsbeth; and the Wayans family comedy, which now is known as Poppa’s House.
Related: 2023 CBS Pilots & Series Orders
The trio will air during the 2023-24 season and will be joined by Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, which formerly was known as The Never Game and was ordered to series in December.
CBS isn’t specifying episode orders, particularly given the current writers strike, but given that all three come from its own studio, the network can be flexible.
It comes after CBS made some space for new titles after axing East New York and True Lies on Tuesday, though it reversed its decision to cancel S.W.A.T., instead bringing the drama back for a seventh and final season.
