Country supergroup the Highwomen — represented by member Amanda Shires — give a radical makeover to Lady Gaga’s appropriately titled “Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)” for the pop star’s Born This Way: The Tenth Anniversary. The album is out now and also includes remade versions of Gaga’s songs by Orville Peck, Big Freedia, and Kylie Minogue.
Lady Gaga’s original “Highway Unicorn” from 2011 was a mix of throbbing electro-house with synth stabs and half-time tumbles of live drums that momentarily broke up the momentum. Shires is joined by Brittney Spencer...

With lockdowns around the country still in place due to Covid, you may find yourself longing for the days of live music, counting down the days until seeing your favorite band on tour again is not only possible, but safe.
Covid-19 has left its mark on many industries, but the global live music industry has seen venues shut down, major festivals and tours screech to a halt, and artists left without rowdy crowds to sing back their most beloved lyrics. There truly is no substitute to seeing live music in-person...

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 has a narrative focus and patience that previous seasons have not. We are more than halfway through the season and, while the crew of the Discovery have encountered a variety of obstacles in their new future, they have not yet come up against a true Big Bad. “The Sanctuary” seems poised to bring them one step closer. In the exclusive clip we have from this week’s episode, Admiral Vance and Book give Michael and Saru more information on The Emerald Chain, the Andorian-Orion crime syndicate that has been causing trouble in the background of Season 3 for the past few episodes, and the mysterious Orion who runs it all: Osyraa. Check it out…

When Record Store Day announced this year’s event will be spread in three “drop” dates — August 29th, September 26th, and October 24th — we knew we had to organize three separate lists to highlight the event’s spectacular releases. The September drop, which occurs on Saturday, features classics (alternate takes of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours) as well as records that have been unavailable for years (Nas’ God’s Son). It’s a great way to support your favorite record store, and these drops will allow the largest number of them to partake.

Evanescence have previewed their first album of original music in nine years with new single, “Wasted on You.” The group’s fifth album, The Bitter Truth, will be released later this year.
“Wasted on You” starts off slow and soulful, with singer Amy Lee detailing a relationship that keeps pulling her under. “I don’t need drugs/I’m already six feet low/I’m wasted on you/Waiting for the bitter truth,” she belts in her signature soprano. The song builds heavier and heavier, with the full band bringing...

With the romantic new track “The Bones,” Maren Morris imagines the sturdy structure of a building as a metaphor for the makings of a solid relationship. But instead of being confined indoors surrounded by four walls and a roof, the song’s official video, directed by Alex Ferrari, captures Morris and her musician husband Ryan Hurd in intimate vacation footage, canoodling on a beach and taking in the scenery around them.

Andrea Berloff brought the horror and trauma of the 9/11 terrorist attack to the silver screen in 2006 as the writer behind “World Trade Center,” starring Nicolas Cage and Michael Peña. In 2015, she showcased N.W.A’s rise to success in “Straight Outta Compton,” earning an original-screenplay Oscar nomination and striking a cultural chord in the hip-hop community and beyond. Most recently, she made her directorial debut with “The Kitchen,” featuring Elisabeth Moss, Tiffany Haddish and Melissa McCarthy as 1970s housewives who become mobsters after their gangster husbands get locked up.
What were you most scared of when you wrote “World Trade Center”?

When Brandi Carlile and Amanda Shires formed the Highwomen as the female answer to the male country supergroup the Highwaymen, their first order of business may have been considered blasphemy by some: rewriting “Highwayman,” the 1985 theme song of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson’s all-star band. But Carlile and Shires not only received the blessing of the song’s writer Jimmy Webb (who recorded his own version in 1977), they also enlisted him in reworking the lyrics. The Highwomen, rounded out by Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby,...

Across the long history of gangster movies, women have usually been relegated to molls, mothers, or voices of conscience; sometimes tough, but never in control. “The Kitchen,” a violent gender corrective set in an Irish mafia-run ’70s New York, has other plans, eager to present its trio of Hell’s Kitchen wives — Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss — as badass, bloodthirsty bosses in their own right.
It’s an exploitation flip whose time has surely come, but what writer-director Andrea Berloff has cobbled together around this concept (based on a DC/Vertigo comic book series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle) is little more than another tone-challenged stumble through mob clichés as prevalent as the trash, graffiti and flared threads dominating the period design.

Just days after the Highwomen played their first full show at the Newport Folk Festival late last month, the country supergroup of Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires were guests on Howard Stern’s Sirius Xm show, where they performed a commanding rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s Seventies classic, “The Chain.”
Shires’ chilling fiddle work accentuates the song’s desolate themes of heartache and anger and the singers’ four-part vocals add even more intensity to this women-only version, with instrumental support from Jason Isbell and brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth.

Fleetwood Mac debuted their new lineup by performing “The Chain” and “Gypsy” on Wednesday’s Ellen.
The televised appearance marked the longtime band’s first time playing live alongside guitarists Mike Campbell, formerly of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Crowded House’s Neil Finn, both of whom stepped in after Fleetwood Mac fired Lindsey Buckingham in April.
Both guitarists featured prominently in the performances, flanking to the left and right of Stevie Nicks; on both “The Chain” and “Gypsy,” Finn handled the vocal parts previously sung by Buckingham, particularly on “The Chain,...

Lindsey Buckingham’s latest departure from Fleetwood Mac certainly upheld the group’s longstanding penchant for drama.
No sooner had Variety confirmed that he’d left the band than word came, literally minutes later, that they’d already replaced him — with longtime Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Crowded House frontman Neil Finn. The confirmation sealed several days of speculation after Billy Burnette — one of two guitarists hired to replace Buckingham last time he left the band 31 years ago — wrote in a hastily deleted tweet on April 4: “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I’m not in. A little pissed off but I’ll get over it.”
While sources told both Variety and Rolling Stone that Buckingham was fired, a source close to the situation says it’s a matter of semantics that requires some backstory.

Lindsey Buckingham, guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire, has left the group Fleetwood Mac, Variety has confirmed. Buckingham has been a key member of Fleetwood Mac, playing with the band from from 1975 to 1987, then, after a decade-long break, returning to the fold in 1997. Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year later.
News of the exit was first shared by guitarist Billy Burnette, who tweeted on April 4, “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I’m not in.” The message was deleted a few hours after posting. Presumably, Burnette, who replaced Buckingham in the group from 1987 until it went on hiatus in 1995, was angling for a position in the band.
According to a source, Buckingham did not exit voluntarily, rather, says the insider, “He was fired.”

Last year, viewers watched Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton, and Jennifer Hudson fight to land Chloé Kohanski on their respective teams during The Voice blind auditons. They all saw a bright future for the then 23-year-old singer who wowed them with her rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain." She ultimately chose #TeamMiley, but won the reality singing-competition on #TeamBlake after getting stolen during the Knockout round. Recently, her fans began wondering what the Season 13 winner is doing now. "I'm going to be really honest and transparent with u... the past few months have literally been insane," she shared on Instagram. "I just wanted to walk away from The Voice with at least a few new fans... so I can't explain to you how wildly unprepared I am for all of this. But I can promise you that I’m working very hard. Since December, I've been pushed in ways I’ve never experienced before.

That's right! An official study was conducted to try and explain why more fans prefer Marvel films over DC films. The study was done by an automated market research tech provider named ZappiStore. They say that the success of Marvel can be linked to the viewer’s emotional engagement with the superheroes while watching movie trailers.
What ZappiStore did was test a viewer’s emotional engagement with a series of Marvel and DC movie trailers by using a facial coding and emotion recognition platform called Affectiva. According to Adweek:
The respondents participating in the Marvel/DC study, and others like it, only need internet connectivity and a standard web camera. As viewers watch stimulus, Affectiva can measure their moment-by-moment facial expressions of emotions. The results for this study were aggregated and displayed in a dashboard.
