The official website for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – a 2020 action RPG developed by Edelweiss for the Nintendo Switch, Playstation4, and PC – has released a main trailer featuring the opening theme song "Harebare!" (Bright and Clear) performed by two-member musical unit Ikimonogakari . It is also announced that the P.A.Woks-animated adaptation is set to premiere on the TV Tokyo Network on July 6, 2024. Masayuki Yoshiwara ( The Eccentric Family ) serves as director along with series composition writer Jukki Hanada ( Love Live! ), and six-member Japanese girl vocal group Little Glee Monster provides the ending theme "Origami." "Harebare! was newly written and composed by the unit's guitarist/pianist, Yoshiki Mizuno. The units says, "'Stronger, weaker, live through it.' The song is based on the image of a strong and vigorous life, with strength and weakness combined, just like ears of rice swaying in the wind under a clear sky.

Following the cult ’70’s film series Planet of the Apes and Tim Burton’s 2001 remake, the franchise was rebooted in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes directed by Rupert Wyatt. This was succeeded by two more sequels which were helmed by The Batman director Matt Reeves in 2014 and 2017 respectively.

The 4th installment in the reboot series titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes directed by Wes Ball will continue to develop on the intense human-ape war. While the film is already expected to push the technical boundaries to rival Avatar 2, one important aspect of the saga that was introduced in Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes could take centerstage in this film.

Usher’s first studio album in six years largely operates as a high-wire homecoming of sorts for the R&b singer. Released two days before his halftime performance at Super Bowl Lviii and following a highly successful Las Vegas residency, Coming Home feels less driven by creative ingenuity or an aesthetic vision than by sheer showmanship. This is further emphasized by the inclusion of the sleepy “Risk It All,” a duet with H.E.R. from the Color Purple soundtrack, and a remix of BTS member Jungkook’s “Standing Next to You,” both of which, thematically and sonically, have little in common with anything else on the album.
Which is to say that the 20-track Coming Home, like many of Usher’s post-Confessions output, is a bit of a bloated mess. For every few colorless duds defined by their embrace of contemporary R&b, such as the overly smooth “Kissing Strangers” or the brassy “Big,...

While preparing for his Super Bowl halftime performance, Usher achieved another goal: He finished recording his ninth album. Coming Home was released on Friday, two days before he celebrates his 30-year career at the big game.
“Life couldn’t be in a better situation for me right now,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s going pretty great.”
The album is a 20-track R&b adventure and features collaborations with Latto, Burna Boy, The-Dream and Pheelz, who appears on the current single “Ruin.” Previously released songs include BTS’ Jungkook, 21 Savage, Summer Walker and H.E.R.
Coming Home is Usher’s first independent project, released through his new label Mega with famed music executive L.A. Reid.
Ahead of his Super Bowl performance, the singer talked to THR about his new album, how he reworked Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” to create a new track, the advice that the King of Pop gave him and more.

We shot the reverse of that photo, which was the first shot that was released, and therefore, after, as I do support Kim, supporting Skims was the next step,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It really was in conjunction with the album.”
A limited edition, digital download version of Coming Home, with an alternative cover and a bonus track called “Naked,” will be available the first week of release via Skims.com.
Usher says he played Kardashian his new album and called her “a fairy god-a&r.”

Werewolf bikers, one might think they would be fairly common in movies, but apart from Hellhounds I can only think of a couple. There’s 1971’s Werewolves on Wheels, which has more to do with Satanists than lycanthropes and more recently High Moon, where a gang of old west werewolves find themselves in the present and saddle up on more modern iron horses. There’s also Bikers vs Werewolves being promised for later this year, but that’s it.
Hellhounds gets off to a start, or should I say starts, that are all over the place. We’re introduced to three separate sets of characters with no clue as to what the connection is. With the long-awaited release of Universal and Blumhouse's adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's" coming this Halloween, horror fans unfamiliar with the long-running video game series of the same name have been trying to catch up on all of the lore in preparation. The original point-and-click survival horror game is extremely easy to understand (be a security guard and don't die from evil animatronics coming to life to kill you) but has since expanded to 13 games and 32 books/graphic novels. That's a hell of a lot of ground to cover, and an impossibility for a single film to capture. With both the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild -- American Federation of Television and Radio Artists currently on a dual strike until the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers provides an acceptable contract for both unions, there hasn't been a whole lot of information released regarding the film.

The inherent pull of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" (Fnaf) video game series is suspense, coupled with the raw fear of what might be waiting for you in the dark. While the core premise of each installment is fairly easy to figure out in terms of objectives, the franchise places particular emphasis on keen observation, spatial awareness, and investment into character attributes. "Fnaf" enthusiasts must have been delighted when a film adaptation of the popular video game franchise was announced, followed by a trailer that showcased security guard Mike Schmidt (John Hutcherson) going through the wringer after accepting a job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza establishment.
Just like players in the game, Mike has to keep track of video camera footage and resolve anomalies that might crop up during his night duty. However, things are more ominous than they seem, as Mike also has to contend with the four animatronic mascots...

Nathalie Emmanuel is the latest star to join the voice cast of the immersive animated series “Ghosts of Ruin.”
The announcement that the “Game of Thrones” and “Fast and Furious” franchise costar would bring her voice talents to the new series was made during the “Ghosts of Ruin” Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
“Literally, I’m emailing the agents right now in this panel,” executive producer Michael Ramey quipped, underscoring just how “real time” the news had developed.

Frank Kozik, an acclaimed artist who designed posters and album covers for a number of bands, has died at the age of 61.
According to a statement released on social media, Kozik passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6th. “Frank was a man larger than himself, an icon in each genre he worked in. He dramatically changed the industry he was a part of. He was a creative force of nature. We are so beyond lucky and honored to have been part of his journey, and he will be missed beyond what words could ever express,” the statement read.
A self-taught artist, Kozik began designing posters for local punk bands while living in Austin in the 1980s. His work eventually caught the attention of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The White Stripes, Beastie Boys, and Green Day, all of whom commissioned Kozik to create tour posters on their behalf.

Philadelphia post-punk band Poison Ruïn have released their new album, Härvest, via Relapse Records. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
The buzz surrounding the group is well-deserved, as proven by the title track. It offers a rare blend of lo-fi post-punk and classic Sst hardcore, with the trebly vintage production evoking Hüsker Dü and modern lo-fi auteurs Molechat Doma. Comparisons to ’80s deathrock/hardcore acts such as Christian Death and early T.S.O.L. are also warranted.
Meanwhile, the medieval aesthetics of the music video and Härvest artwork have more in common with black metal or dungeon synth. As singer-guitarist Mac Kennedy explained, the album’s lyrics and imagery rework fantasy themes “as a series of totems for the downtrodden, stripping it of its escapist tendencies and retooling it as a rich metaphor for the collective struggle over our shared reality.”

Season 2 of the Netflix fantasy series Shadow and Bone is now available for streaming, and fans can’t get enough of The Darkling (Ben Barnes) and Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter). The pair lead a cast of dark and fantastical characters as they evoke supernatural powers creating mystical worlds and alternate dimensions. The highly-successful series is based on the Grishaverse novels by author Leigh Bardugo. While both men portray characters from a different universe, the author claims two popular disco tracks would be perfect karaoke songs for the fan-favorite actors.

After fans waited almost two years for new episodes, the second season of Shadow and Bone premiered on March 16 on Netflix. The new season adapts Leigh Bardugo’s Siege and Storm as well as Ruin and Rising, bringing the novelized Shadow and Bone trilogy to a close.
However, the source material for Bardugo’s Grishaverse does not end with that core trilogy. Rather, it continues with two more duologies: Six of Crows and King of Scars. Unlike King of Scars, some details from the Six of Crows books have already crept into the Shadow and Bone series. And as it turns out, scripts for a Six of Crows spinoff series have already been completed.

Everything came down to Alina, with the help of her close allies.
The final battle ensued between darkness and light on Shadow and Bone Season 2 Episode 8, with one prevailing over the other.
Alina made a difficult choice, and the resulting action managed to end the fight once and for all.
Mal started dying. There was no avoiding that fate, but Alina had a difficult decision.
Would she kill her best friend, Male, the final amplifier, before he died from Kirigan's wounds?
If Mal succumbed to the wounds that Kirigan left him, then Mal's amplifier ability may have gone to Kirigan instead of Alina.
Mal handed Alina a dagger, and she finally decided to do the right thing: she decided to stab him in the heart.
It's weird to say that stabbing her best friend and love interest through the heart was the right thing to do, but in the heat of the moment,...

Alina and Mal found a bit of peace, but that quickly got foiled when Alina learned her nightmares were real.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Episode 1 saw Alina dreaming of Kirigan inside the fold while the Crows dealt with their issues.
Pekka managed to kill the woman whose name was on the deed for the Crow Club, which means the club now was his: as was Inej's contract.
Mal and Alina continued their romance, but their romantic interactions kept getting interrupted by multiple outside occurrences.
Both of them managed to get caught, causing them to flee the land they had just arrived in.
We didn't see much of the Zemeni side of things, so hopefully, they get brought back into the future. Just as Alina did, we learned that the Zemeni consider their magic users blessed and don't categorize them.
The Zemeni saved Alina and Mal later in the episode, much to everyone's surprise.

The following contains Shadow and Bone spoilers.
The second season of Shadow and Bone is absolutely jam-packed with big moments of both the emotional and the magical variety, adapting the events of two of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels (Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising) and adding multiple shocking new twists entirely of its own making along the way.
Let’s break down what happened in the Shadow and Bone Season 2 finale and all the questions we have about what it might mean for the show going forward.
Surprise! Mal is the Firebird — and a Descendent of Morozova
Alina’s mission during much of Season 2 is to find the two other ancient mystical creatures tied to Ilya Morozova, a character from Bardugo’s books that the show has sort of mentioned multiple times in passing but never fully explained in any great detail. Suffice it to say, the three creatures—the Stag,...

Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone” Season 2 will continue to immerse viewers into the fictional fantasy world created by Leigh Bardugo, author of the “Shadow and Bone” trilogy and the “Six of Crows” duology.
Landing on the streamer March 16, the second season of the YA fantasy series adapts both “Siege and Storm” and “Ruin and Rising” from Bardugo’s trilogy while sprinkling in elements from the “Six of Crows” duology. New characters from both parts of the Grishaverse enter the story this round as well, including Tolya Yul-bataar (Lewis Tan), Tamar Kir-bataar (Anna Leong Brophy), Sturmhond aka Nikolai Lantsov (Patrick Gibson) and Wylan Hendricks (Jack Wolfe).
Season 1 laid a complex foundation for the elaborate universe that houses this story, and for those that need a refresher on what exactly happened in the first season, look no further. We’ll do our best to summarize, from the intricacies to the adventures.

Two decades after its release, "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy remains a monumental achievement. Like "Star Wars," or "Jurassic Park" before it, Peter Jackson's trilogy adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's legendary book was a blend of old-school cinematic techniques and new technological wizardry. The films used on-camera tricks like forced perspective and miniatures, but also state-of-the-art VFX and motion-capture technology in order to bring Middle-earth to life.
This is especially true of the fight scenes in the trilogy, which share a sense of scope with the epic movies of old like "Ben-Hur" or "Cleopatra" while still feeling modern.
While we wait for Prime Video to bring us the most expensive TV show ever with "The Rings of Power," it's time to revisit the #1 trilly and the golden standard for fantasy movie trilogies and what makes it great. There is one scene in particular which, even 20 years later,...

"You flew fast. Mom would be proud." You have to watch this awesome short film titled The Cloud Racer - from director Joe Sill and his production studio Impossible Objects. This CG animated sci-fi short is a proof of concept and it's an exhilarating experience introducing us to the "next great race." Made entirely on the Unreal engine, it's an example of how far you can push visuals with any idea. A struggling outerling pilots his race-craft over the apocalyptic streets of future Los Angeles in a fierce aerial competition against the much better funded corporate teams, his trusted father (who also serves as his mechanic) by his side. Set in a desolate, demolished LA in 2055, the city is now known as "Ghost City". It's pretty much The Phantom Menace podracing scene but it also reminds of the Wachowskis' Speed Racer as well (which I still think is underrated). With performances by Heston Horwin,...

Publisher’s summary: The dead of Loraille do not rest.
Artemisia is training to be a Gray Sister, a nun who cleanses the bodies of the deceased so that their souls can pass on; otherwise, they will rise as spirits with a ravenous hunger for the living. This Shadow And Bone feature contains spoilers for Season 1.
Though Netflix’s new fantasy series Shadow and Bone is based on the bestselling Grishaverse novels of author Leigh Bardugo, it’s not a straightforward adaptation of the book series that shares its name. In addition to the Shadow and Bone trilogy, the series also incorporates elements from Six of Crows, a duology that is set in the same world, but focused on a very different set of characters.
Set two years after the events of Shadow and Bone, Six of Crows is a dramatic heist story set in a different country (Kerch) and starring a set of characters who really don’t take part in the events of the first trilogy. Until now. Shadow and Bone attempts to create what are essentially prequel storylines for the major characters of Six of Crows: criminal mastermind Kaz Brekker, assassin Inej Ghafa, gunslinger Jesper Fahey,...

"Head straight there, don't slow down, I'll handle the Mtf." Time to ride into the future. Talented visual storyteller Joe Sill has dropped a new short film online. His latest project is called Autonomous, a proof-of-concept short for a bigger project created using CG animation. The film is an animated cyberpunk thriller centered around a motorcycle gang of traffickers in a world of autonomous vehicles. Yuri and her brother Nyx face off against the Metro Task Force as they transport an important package to a client. Featuring the voices of: Liz Morey, Keong Sim, Joe Biacno, Lulu Picart, Kaylin Lee Clinton, Shawn Williams, Steven Sherman. This reminds me a bit of the motorcycle CG short Ruin years ago, which was filmmaker Wes Ball's big break into the industry. This one has a whole different look and feel, but is just as impressive and as sleek as Ruin. I love the vehicle designs in this,...

Paramount Pictures has landed the spec script “The Aliens Are Stealing Our Weed” with Gina Rodriguez attached to star, sources tell Variety.
“The Eternals” scribe Ryan Firpo penned the script. Rodriguez will also produce under her I Can and I Will banner alongside Kaz and Ryan Firpo’s Badlands. Molly Breeskin will executive produce through I Can and I Will.
The story follows Candice (Rodriguez) and Izzy, two hapless pot growers who, after their entire crop of weed inexplicably goes missing, uncover an alien conspiracy to steal the planet’s marijuana supply.
Sources say studio execs felt the story fell in line with other Paramount comedies like “Anchorman,” “Airplane!” and “Blazing Saddles,” and moved quickly to acquire it.
The project also gives Rodriguez another star vehicle in her development slate after her breakout role on the CW series “Jane the Virgin,” which won her a Golden Globe in 2015.
