    Sarge & Pea

One of 'those' 'Modern Family' episodes where a couple of nice moments, combined with the cast working flat out, just about manages to see a sub par episode over the line.

This isn't great though, with none of the stories being overly funny or inventive. The Sarge and Pea one particularly I found myself skipping through, because it felt like we've covered all this ground before.

The Cam, Haley and Alex story was the only decent one, but even then it's just ok.

    Not the best.

Dede is finally cast in a good light

Unlike many reviews for this episode, I actually like this episode. It is most certainly not the best episode of the series, but it is not the worst either. It is nice to see Dede (her fifth appearance in the series) as mostly positive. In the previous appearances she is seen as a judgy mother to Claire and Mitch, or a crazy old bat that tries to kill Gloria. It was a good episode, that was funny enough. I do agree with some of the other reviewers, that the show has lost some edge by this point. IMO seasons 1-5 are the funniest, along with seasons 10 and 11. Seasons 6-9 are just okay. This episode is better than good, but not phenomenal.

    Why?

I am starting to wonder more and more why this show hasn't been cancelled yet.

There was a time when the kids were cute and the families had something interesting and fun to bring to each episode. But now? It's just one episode after another trying to make all of them look normal and how most of real families act. And yes it is boring.

I mean where is the comedy? Where are the jokes? Just some goofy jokes here and there but it's nothing to keep me or anyone else to keep watching. One could easily just watch some stupid reality show to get more laughs and drama.

I think Modern Family died when all the kids grew up and wasn't so cute anymore.

Time to end this and do a new show.
