Another really disappointing "awards show"

Okay the title "American Music Awards 2016" here is pretty self-explanatory in my opinion as you read the name of the awards show and also the year when this was released and to be more precise it was in November fairly shortly after the American Presidential Election 2016 and taking that into account, the number of Trump jokes and references was still relatively low, even if there were some, but yeah, maybe they don't want to be anti-American. An upright sincere citizen accepts his President, even if he does not necessarily agree with him on certain matters. Directors are Macks and Sherman and these two have a long history with the Emmys, especially the former very experienced. So yeah, with them in charge I thought this could have been a better show to be honest. But it has the usual award show problems in my opinion. Or lets say the usual music award show problems that it feels much more like a concert show than an awards show and it began right away when we had Bruno Mars perform before one single award was given to somebody. Oh my. And this is the key flaw, but just one of many to be honest. First of all, many acceptance speeches did not feel authentic at all, like near the end Selena Gomez and also Ariana Grande, which makes me a bit sad I like the latter. Sting is really deserving of a Lifetime Achievement Award without a doubt, but I would have hoped for a better presenter than Robert Downey jr. honestly. And sadly, the best-of performance by Sting left me fairly unimpressed too given how much I like him. Maybe not hist best songs I don't know. Still best award of the night probably Sting. One recipient made a joke about them getting an award because another act was not present and well yeah, I know it was meant for fun, but maybe there is an ounce of truth to it. I have a feeling that sometimes tehy really prefer those that will attend. Worst award of the night is the one that went to Prince. I know there was probably some re-release to cash in on his recent death, but it is a joke to give a contemporary award to a record that is over 30 years old really and I am saying this as somebody who likes Prince. If you want to honor him, do a tribute. But don't pull of fake crap like that. Then again, if he is up against competition like the Suicide Squad soundtrack, oh well, then maybe it's fine he won. Not that there was any doubt. What else. The show (without commercials) ran for 2 hours and 10 minutes, solid running time, probably long version 3 hours, but yeah I think it could, no should, have been shorter with less performance. I would have preferred the five key songs nominated in the biggest category of the night to be performed live and that's all. On a side-note the hosts were as forgettable and non-existent as they have been in my review by now. Talking about the many music performances, I was not really impressed either I must admit. Music's not in a good state right now, even if I admittedly have seen worse at other music award shows in recent years. So the end of the tunnel may be near, but there is still some "work" today. No pun intended.. oh my what tok say if a song liuke that tops the charts. We will see in the next years which directions will be headed. Lady Gaga was still among the better performers, but not too good either, and I am saying this as somebody who is not a great fan of her, especially her more recent stuff. So yeah, this shows you waht I thought about the rest. Here and there, I had a moment when I felt this desrved more than 1 out of 5 stars, but negative components returned pretty quickly then and made me think yeah I cannot give more. So skip the watch here. Not recommend at all.
