- A speculative, fictional "what if" scenario based on the controversial play of the same name in which Prince Charles (Tim Pigott-Smith) becomes King Charles III following the Queen's death. His scandal-prone family schemes against him, as his controversial political decisions cause constitutional crisis and lead to chaotic riots and army in the streets. Camilla thinks Charles should be crowned king straight away, but Kate would argue that constitution demands a coronation, which would take months to organize. William (Oliver Chris) is neutral.
Prime Minister (Adam James) in his first official meeting with Charles stands up to him on his opposition to the freedom of press bill. Prime Minister presents the bill as something that is already done, saying that law making would be done by elected officials and not the King. This offends Charles deeply. Charles refuses to sign it. This infuriates the Prime Minster who again resorts to threatening Charles & yet again Charles returns the bill.
In response the Prime Minister decides to introduce a bill in Parliament, precluding the need for Royal assent to turn a bill into a law. As the bill is being debated in Parliament, Charles enters the chambers and uses his royal decree to dissolve the Parliament itself. There is rioting in the streets with crowds asking the King to "Let Go". Charles summons an army tank to protect Buckingham palace.
Some of the most shocking moments in the story include power-hungry Kate (Charlotte Riley) planning to take Charles down. William refuses to back Kate and admonishes her saying that he will never step across the rights of his father.
Kate eventually convinces William to depose his own father to bring an end to the constitutional crisis. At a press conference arranged by Charles, William does exactly that. Then Jess brings the notion of her ex-boyfriend blackmailing her with her naked pics and wants the Royal household to pay him. She is refused curtly. Harry approaches Charles to help Jess. Charles invites Jess into the family, but Harry refuses saying that he wants to be a commoner instead. Charles agrees and Harry is cast off.
Eventually Charles abdicates when even Harry supports William. Charles resigns, but bitterly. Harry breaks up with Jess, when William & Kate tell Harry that having relations at this time would not be conducive to stability of the crown.
