Irish gang drama Kin, premiering September 9 on AMC+, unveiled a deadly first trailer and key art for the series today.
The clip zeroes in on a devastating war that has begun by a murder in a family where loyalty is paramount.
Starring Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne (Herself), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), and Ciarán Hinds, Kin charts the lives of the Kinsellas, a small but tight-knit crime family embroiled in a war against a powerful drug kingpin, Eamon Cunningham (Hinds).
A boy is killed and his family embark on a gangland war with an international cartel – a war that is impossible to win.
It’s David and Goliath. Out-numbered, out-financed and out-gunned, the Kinsellas find themselves holed up in their Dublin stronghold while their businesses fail, and family members and associates are picked off.
But they have something the cartel does not: the unbreakable bonds of blood and family.

Since the early-aughts success of HBO’s “The Sopranos,” the family crime drama has become yet another of these staples, with shows like “Boardwalk Empire,” “Peaky Blinders,” “Narcos,” and “Animal Kingdom” trodding similar territory.

Lively is also producing the thriller through her B for Effort production banner, along with Kate Vorhoff. Shawn Levy will produce through his 21 Laps company with partner Dan Cohen.
Lively was most recently seen in the action-thriller “The Rhythm Section,” which was a major disappointment for Paramount earlier this year with $6 million in worldwide box office. Her notable film credits include “The Age of Adeline,” “The Shallows” and “A Simple Favor.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot has teamed with Warner Bros. Pictures to develop Daniel Casey’s supernatural thriller “The Pinkerton” as a feature film.
The movie will be the first original film project for Bad Robot under a five-year mega-deal the company signed with WarnerMedia in September.
The studio is keeping the logline for “The Pinkerton” under wraps. The Pinkerton National Detective Agency was established in the United States by Allan Pinkerton in 1850. He claimed to have foiled a plot to assassinate president-elect Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Peter Dodd is overseeing for Warner Bros.
Casey is the screenwriter on Universal’s upcoming “Fast and Furious” sequel, “F9,” which opens May 22. He worked with Abrams the thriller “10 Cloverfield Lane.” His writing credits also include the Jack Reynor sci-fi thriller “Kin” and the Joe Carnahan-directed “Leo From Toledo” with Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo. He’s repped by Writ Large.

Netflix has unleashed the trailer for its latest comedy series aimed at teens and nostalgic adults, and it’s called “I Am Not Okay With This.” Based on a 2017 graphic novel by Charles Forsman, the series comes from the director/executive producer of Netflix cult favorite “The End of the F***ing World,” Jonathan Entwistle, and producers on the streamer’s wildly popular “Stranger Things,” a vibe that “I Am Not Okay With This” is clearly grooving to. And as a kind of superhero origin story set among grade-schoolers coming into puberty, it’s got a John Hughes vibe, also. Check it out below.
Unfolding across seven 30-minute episodes that will drop on February 26, the series stars Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff (also from “It”), Sofia Bryant (“The Good Wife”), and Kathleen Rose Perkins, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong (“Falling Water”), and Richard Ellis (“Veronica Mars”). This week’s one-two punch of the Golden Globes and SAG Awards nominations have thrown awards season prognosticators into a frenzy, but they actually help to provide some clarification for the streaming wars.
HBO received nine SAG Awards nominations Wednesday morning; meanwhile, Warner Bros. Television, also owned by AT&T, was among several studios that tied for second place with four SAG Award nominations. Given that these award-nominated properties will have a direct line of distribution to AT&T-owned streaming, their success bodes well for the 2020 launch of HBO Max.
HBO was among the studios behind well-received projects such as “Chernobyl,” “Barry,” which each received two SAG Award nominations; though critics and viewers were divided on the final season of “Game of Thrones,” the show still earned three nominations. HBO’s production successes were also elevated by “Big Little Lies” and “True Detective,” which each received one nomination. “Big Little Lies...

Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Is One of the Few Women-Led Success Stories at 2020 Golden Globes
It’s been a banner year for Hello Sunshine: The Reese Witherspoon-founded production company behind HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” scored six Golden Globe nominations Monday morning. Hello Sunshine and its two shows about strong women served as a bright spot in the historically male-dominated Golden Globes, which this year snubbed female filmmakers in a variety of critical film categories.
Hello Sunshine, which Witherspoon founded in 2016, has quickly made a name for itself in prestige television. The studio says it is focused on telling stories and creating content that celebrates women, and, so far, Hollywood has recognized its efforts; “Big Little Lies’” three Golden Globe nominations Monday come on top of the five the show received last year.

Rodney Crowell could have spent a lifetime writing an album about Texas. In a way, he has. Though the Grammy-winning Americana storyteller left the Lone Star State for Music City in 1972, he’s returned to it time and again for inspiration in the decades since, from his 2001 LP The Houston Kid to his 2011 memoir Chinaberry Sidewalks. But Crowell owes his latest album, Texas, to a song called “Brown & Root, Brown & Root,” and a conversation it started between him and Steve Earle.
“I wrote that back in the Seventies and Steve learned it.

After last weekend saw the weekend box office top the same weekend in 2018 for the first time all year, this weekend looks as if it is going to be tight on that front. Disney and Marvel's Captain Marvel is certain to top the weekend yet again as it pushes over $260 million domestically in just ten days while Paramount debuts the animated feature Wonder Park, Lionsgate and CBS release Five Feet Apart and Focus releases the near-future thriller Captive State. Also looking at a top ten finish is Lionsgate's release of No Manches Frida 2, the sequel to the 2016 feature that debuted with over $3.6 million from just 362 locations. At the top for a second weekend in a row will be Disney's release of Marvel's Captain Marvel, which debuted with a strong $153.4 million last weekend and has been pacing relatively similarly to The Hunger Games since release. That, plus the -...

Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon are in talks to join the cast of Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner has inked a deal with Starz to develop “Kin,” Variety has learned.
The multi-generational family drama comes from “Queen Sugar” and “Constantine” writer Davita Scarlett, who developed the project with Chester Jones III. Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine film and TV head Lauren Neustadter are on board as executive producers alongside Scarlett.
“The opportunity to work in partnership with Davita Scarlett as well as Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine on this series is serendipitous,” Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik said in a statement. “Hello Sunshine puts women at the forefront of the stories they are telling, and that fits perfectly into Starz’s overall programming strategy to offer compelling content that appeals to female audiences.”
Witherspoon described Scarlett’s script as “utterly original, complex, and incredibly nuanced.”
“She deftly explores issues around identity and the secrets family members keep to protect themselves and one another.

There’s no denying this one: Lionsgate’s film division had a dismal year at the box office, topping out at $388 million — the company’s worst domestic box office performance since 2011.
The brightest spots on Lionsgate’s slate were two modestly budgeted films with female leads: Paul Feig’s thriller “A Simple Favor,” which earned $53.5 million domestically, and Anna Faris’s remake of “Overboard,” released under the Pantelion Films banner to just $50.3 million.
The Sundance acquisition “Blindspotting” garnered some major critical acclaim, but little else. And the company took big losses on the Mila Kunis-Kate McKinnon comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me” and the sci-fi film “Kin.”
Lionsgate also missed the bullseye with one of its priciest bets: the $100 million-budgeted “Robin Hood,” which has managed just over $30 million so far at the domestic box office. The fantasy adventure starring Taron Egerton has also underperformed overseas, though it still awaits a release in China.

Michael B Jordan
The actor is in serious awards contention for his role in “Black Panther,” but also most recently starred in “Creed II,” “Fahrenheit 451” and “Kin.”
Josh Brolin
We all know Josh Brolin played the villain in both “Deadpool 2” And “Avengers: Infinity War” (which is a feat in itself), but he also starred in “Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado” and “The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter.”
Tessa Thompson
Thompson seems to have been in every movie this year, and that’s for good reason: She starred in “Annihilation” alongside Natalie Portman, as well as “Sorry to Bother You,” “Little Woods,” “Furlough” and “Creed II.”
Patrick Wilson
Wilson is now just making the rounds as King Orm in James Wan’s “Aquaman,” but the actor also starred in “Insidious: The Last Key,” “”The Commuter,” “The Nun,” “Nightmare Cinema” and he is currently filming the Untitled “Annabelle” film.

Michael B. Jordan is currently being embraced as the star of “Black Panther” and the “Creed” franchise, but he’s been in the business for 20 years — the last five of which have catapulted the 31-year-old actor to a previously unknown level of stardom. And now that he has it, he intends to exploit that power to the best of his abilities.
“It’s fucking insane, bro,” he said. “All my friends and family are like, ‘Mike, you gotta let your mind catch up to where you are.'”
Where is he? Apparently, everywhere. He’s at the end of an extraordinary year that will see him Oscar campaigning for “Black Panther” — the Marvel movie with a nearly all-black cast that has a real shot at multiple nominations, including Best Picture (and may even be the frontrunner). “Creed II,” which he executive produced, further minted Jordan as an A-list lead, and has already earned $100 million worldwide.

Lionsgate’s “Robin Hood” is turning out to be this year’s biggest blockbuster bomb, with a $14 million five-day opening against a budget of just under $100 million.
This year’s Thanksgiving weekend has provided the most lucrative box office ever. But even with all the record-breaking success, there have been some failures in 2018. Most of those bombs, like Paramount’s “Annihilation” and Fox’s “The Darkest Minds,” have had low-to-mid-level budgets that have reduced how much of a financial hit their studios have taken.
With a global launch of just $22.8 million, “Robin Hood” has had the worst start for any film this year with a budget of $90 million or higher. It’s another flop on top of several for Lionsgate, including the sci-fi film “Kin” ($9.9 million grossed against a $30 million budget), and the Kate McKinnon/Mila Kunis spy comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me” ($75 million/$40 million budget). Happy Halloween, everyone! While I know it’s a bittersweet feeling that our favorite holiday is finally upon us, that doesn’t mean we have to bid the horror genre farewell any time soon. In fact, there are a ton of great genre films hitting VOD and a variety of digital platforms throughout the month of November, which should help with the sting of it no longer officially being the spooky season.
November’s digital releases kick off on Friday with Possum, Welcome to Mercy, and Monster Party, and then just a few days later, get ready for Death House, Kin, The Heretics, Beyond the Sky, and Blood, Sweat and Terrors on November 6th. One week later, the cyber thriller Searching hits various platforms (and is definitely worth a watch), and there are a few more titles making their digital debuts that day as well: Blue My Mind, Lasso, and Bloody Ballet.

In a new issue of the magazine, Zoë Kravitz has spoken openly with Rolling Stone about her experiences with sexual harassment in Hollywood. The actress revealed she was harassed by an unnamed director early on in her career when she was around 20 years old. Kravitz decided not to name the director, but she did get into some of the specifics of his inappropriate behavior.
“I definitely worked with a director who made me very uncomfortable,” Kravitz said. “I was young — maybe 19 or 20 — and we were on location, staying at the same hotel. And it was full-on: ‘Can I come inside your room?’ Just totally inappropriate. And then he’d do things like come to the makeup trailer and touch my hair. Or say, ‘Let me see your costume — turn around?’ It’s just never Ok for someone to do that. Especially when they’re in a position of power.”

Paramount Players has signed “Black Panther” star Winston Duke to board its action-thriller “Heroine.”
Dan Casey will direct “Heroine” from his own script about a mother who witnesses a kidnapping by a white nationalist gang. Duke will portray her vigilante neighbor.

Last year’s Labor Day box office was a bad one for movie theaters, posting the lowest total for the four-day weekend since the turn of the century. But thanks in good part to Warner Bros.’ “Crazy Rich Asians,” this Labor Day weekend is seeing a substantial rebound.
After a $22 million three-day total, the Jon M. Chu romantic comedy is expected to push its weekend numbers to $28.5 million today, while the combined grosses for all films this weekend is estimated to be at least $121 million. That’s a 24 percent increase over last year’s $97.8 million.

That also means that this summer’s total box office gross should close out at $4.37 billion, up 16 percent from last year’s 11-year low of $3.77 billion. That doesn’t include the opening week of “Avengers: Infinity War,” which...

[Editor’s note: This post contains major spoilers for “Kin.”]
When Jonathan and Josh Baker’s feature-length debut, the imaginative sci-fi thriller “Kin,” unspools its final ten minutes, it comes packed with some genuine surprises. It’s not just that the film’s finale adds a new dimension to the story that has preceded it or that it opens up the possibility for a film franchise, but it’s who makes both of those things possible. It’s all thanks to a surprise cameo from one of Hollywood’s hottest actors, a star who doesn’t just appear in the film, but also executive produced it, totally in secret.
“This is a secret we’re trying to keep until opening weekend, and it’s already been real tough to do it,” Jonathan Baker told IndieWire in a recent interview.
Even fans of the film’s initial inspiration — the 2014 short film “Bag Man,” which the brothers wrote and directed — will likely be surprised by what happens.
