Character Reta was based on Screenwriter (Lisa's) real life pen-pal, whom she has not yet met in person.
When Director Robert began casting, he got a lot of pushback about the title "Death Camp" from agents. After many months of discussions, he and his Producers decided to keep the title because of the fact that many groups of people try to say that the Holocaust never happened. Robert and Producer Marc toured the Nazi Death Camp at Dachau in 1989 and Robert recalled that "you could still feel the death and destruction." At that moment Robert vowed to do everything he possibly could so that it never happens again. If the title of his horror movie sparks a conversation about the Nazi Death Camps, all the better, so the next generation will make sure that it never happens again.
Production shut down after Director Robert J. Locke almost killed multiple cast and crew members during filming. After arbitration and mediation, the film was cobbled together from footage that had already been shot.
